Year 3 under Ron Rivera is quickly turning into another horrific start to a season under his watch. Sitting at 1-3 and given the uncompetitive nature of many of our games so far, fans can't help but to start looking ahead towards the offseason and where the team goes next. One of the big decisions seems to be the futures of Daron Payne and Montez Sweat. Based on what you have seen, who do you want the team to make an effort to retain going forward? Who can be more valuable in terms of becoming competitive again?

Have at it and let us know where you stand?

I want to keep the both of them.

Depending on how well Sweat does when Young gets back he could return to 2020 form.

Payne is having a really solid season so far. Very disruptive and his pass deflecting skills are on point.

Payne has shown me something this year but highly unlikely he’d re-sign here after being disrespected. Montez Sweat is an underachiever imho.

Payne has played really well. Not sure if it’s the contract year play or he’s just playing pissed off. Whether he wants to re-sign is another matter. But I’d take him if the choice was between the two. Sweat clearly has the talent, but it’s not consistent. It reminds me a lot of Preston Smith. He would make multiple great plays in a game, then you would not hear from him for a few games. Also, it seems like there are edge guys aplenty in the draft. They are almost becoming like WR. I feel like that is easier to replace than a good interior guy.

I think Payne has been more then solid since the day he stepped into the building . We let go 2 big pieces last year in Ioannidis and Settle in a league where getting to the Qb is premium and letting Payne walk would be a big mistake IMO . I do think Boone is accurate in saying he probably doesn't want to be here after last years dust up . Their best year obviously was year 1 when the motto was to play defense/run on the way to the quarterback. wouldn't mind seeing that again.

Payne has been a man amongst boys. Kinda telling that he wasn’t really valued much prior to the season and hasn’t been recognized by the coaches since for his often stellar play.

If Payne would actually play for a reasonable value, sure, but the problem is he's been seeing $$$$ signs with Sweat and Young since Allen got paid. You know who didn't join them in that nonsense, as far as I could see? Settle. And we let him walk. That still burns me up, because to me, it is ridiculously short-sighted. Settle was the type of player you build winners with. So of course he walks, and we keep the guy who you can't build with, because he will demand way too much money. Either he walks or we overpay, those are the only two choices I see happening.

Payne has been more present this year but was not as consistent as Allen last year. Could very well be chasing that contract. Just hope he doesn't go Darren Waller or Haynesworth after getting paid.

No way Payne gets what he "wants" from us to stay, keeping good talent on bad teams takes overpaying, is true in all businesses. If you want top talent to join a turn around/troubled business, you're not paying market value. Sweat to me looks like he thinks this is pre-season but doesn't mean he won't elevate his game in the coming weeks.
