Coaching staff thread

Well, the talent on the OL has to improve by 500% for the coach to have any meaningful impact.

We essentially have one starter in Sam Cosmi, one swing tackle at 32 in Charles Leno and one or two guys on IR that are recent draft picks that need to prove in the offseason they deserve a place on the roster.

Nick Gates and Andrew Wylie need to be sent packing. I am sick of waiting on Saahdiq Charles to stay healthy after almost 4 years here and prove he is more than the #9 lineman.

Tyler Larsen could be a backup OC for us on a two year deal but he's not a 17 game starter on a good OL.
 
That was my reaction, too. Maybe it'll turn out like Joe Barry becoming Green Bay's DC (better than most would have thought)
 
Yeah, except Joe Barry was fired after the Packers playoff loss.
 
The Johnson hire is the first one that has me scratching my head. Granted, the Giants had some historic injury issues on the OL this last season and they played 3 different QBs during the season, but this hire still feels a bit underwhelming.
 
Yeah, but Barry did have a pretty solid multi-year run prior to his firing in Green Bay.
 
It may be another case of having no talent = coaches that look incompetent.

At the end of the season the Giants OL was worse than Washington's in terms of across the board starting talent.

Now, some of that was due to injuries.

One thing, I sure hope Johnson is not a fan of Nick Gates. I want this guy out of the building ASAP.

I watched this guy high five and make all kinds of gestures when the team got a first down and then allowed a pressure right up the middle on the next play to knock Howell to the ground.

I think HE was surprised to get free agent interest from anyone willing to give him a decent contract above minimum.

The veteran minimum is how much he should have been paid as a replacement level player.
 
I’m as excited for this hiring as NYG fans would be for hiring Travelle Wharton.
 
So, we just hired the OL coach whose Giants unit gave up a league-leading 85 sacks in 2023?

Maybe last season was an anomaly but given our OL struggles this seems suspect.
 
Obviously, whatever Kingsbury and crew have come up with on their style of offense, Johnson seems to match what they want. So far, I do not see this staff being put together with the idea of "Who's left" mentality. I will be curious to hear what he brings to the the table for us that made them choose him.
 
I love the experience being hired at these positions. They don't suck.
