Coaching staff thread

So Tavita will probably be out. The one I’m most curious about is Randy Jordan. And Kerrigan.

I was in the minority: I wanted to trade Sweat before the season because I didn't think he was going to be worth the contract he was going to get. Good player? Absolutely. Worth a top-5 to top-10 edge contract? No.

I also didn't want to extend Payne, I would have traded him as well. Though I was banking on Young not being a total bust. Granted, partially for health reasons. But partially because he's a nincompoop.

Going back farther, I think it was criminal roster negligence to spend 4 consecutive 1st round picks on DL. Only one of those picks was Ron's, so Bruce screwed it up first. But Ron doubled down on it. If Chase Young was going to be the pick, and at the time I had no problem with that, then they had to trade Allen or Payne either in that draft or shortly thereafter to avoid the situation they ended up in.

It's also just a terrible use of assets. you're spending all of your resources on the less important side of the ball. You've got to get an asset back to spend on offense if you're going to spend the #2 on Young. I said it then, and I'm saying it now. I think if they picked Young at #2, they should have traded Allen or Payne absolutely at the same moment and gotten another first in that draft to pick another offensive player.

I might be being a sourpuss about this, but I don't want Logan Paulsen around the team at all. I think he's been brown nosing for a while, and it's become extremely obvious.

Shrug. Maybe I'm being a **** about it, but i think it's a bad look for my guy. If he wants to be a coach, he should be able to become a quality control offensive assistant somewhere and climb the ladder, doesn't have to be here.
 
The Commanders taking 4 #1 picks on the defensive line reminded me of John Nash and the Wizards ending up drafting or trading for 3 power forwards taken in the top 3-4 picks in sequential drafts - Chris Webber, Juwan Howard and Rashad Wallace. Of course the team didn't have a point guard at that point or a true small forward or much of anything else, but what the hell?

At least we got that ONE position nailed down!

For the Commanders, it was a symbol of the dysfunctional approach at the core of the organization where decision-makers under the salary cap would concentrate so may resources in one player unit in the NFL.

With Allen, Payne and Sweat already on the team Ron Rivera should have targeted quarterback in a solid class and been in position to trade down and select from Tua, Herbert, Jordan Love, Jalen Hurts, etc.

Instead he doubled down without any real thought to the monies that would be required to keep this group of DL together if they DID turn out to meet the expectations.

Again, I think Ron Rivera was SCARED to use that high of a pick on a quarterback. He just never had any real instincts for the position or who out there could play it for him.

Ok. That was a surprise. I’m glad they are at least conducting interviews with the current group.

I wonder how much Pritchard grimaced when EB had Howell throwing the ball 45 times each week. It will be interesting to see what comes out now that EB is gone.

Interesting on Brian Johnson. Eagles' fans blame him for the Philly fall from grace in 2023, but he was Hurts' quarterbacks coach for his first couple of years in the NFL and Hurts made remarkable strides from where he was in 2020 coming in as a raw but skilled player.

The NFC East is amusing. Each team is plucking coaches and players from the others and it appears as if one man's trash is truly another man's treasure :rotflmao:
 
So, with Zimmer to Dallas. There might be some other assistants, he doesn't want to keep -- that Quinn and Whitt may want to bring over.

 
Dallas is going with a youth movement! Zimmer at 67 LOOKS young to the 81 year old Jones :LOL:
