For me, the problem with this coaching regime was recruiting…most glaringly the inability to bring in a starting level division one quarterback. The only surprise was that they pulled the trigger before the season was over. That’s rarely a good look—there may be stuff going on behind the scenes that made it necessary.

I think it's got a lot to do with the coaching vacancies that are already open. LSU, USC, TCU, and Washington all have openings. You could argue that 3 of those 4 are better destinations. Waiting too much longer and you're likely 4 coaches behind in the process.
