Man cannot live by Redskins alone
Ovi getting his legs back, lighting the lamp lately, could he get another 40 this year? Also, if he wants to keep playing how would the Caps structure the contract? I cant see any scenario of him playing for another NHL team.

No, I am pretty sure that Ted will throw away whole seasons to keep Ovie a "Cap for life" if it took that.
I don't think Ovie wants to play if he can't perform at a high level - but the team has to adapt to his lack of speed and sometimes it is a problem, especially when he's on the ice with Carlson too.

Still, always nice to see him score, never gets old. Unbelievable, really.
 
My oh my, Carbery finally tired of Carlson and the early returns of having Leonard on the PP... granted very early...
what a difference. It's just really tough sometimes with Carlson and Ovie out there, the speed isn't there, and these days the stick work can be troubling too. It's night and day now with Leno. If the specials get cleaned up, this team goes from good to dangerous.

Historically the Caps had a lot of strength in goal. It's going to be interesting how the season pans out. You just hope that whoever your goalie is, they get hot at the right time and stay hot for the postseason. This Caps team has much improved 2-way play down the middle though, so you hope your goalie may not need to be as amazing as they needed to be in years past.
 
This slide is all Trouba's fault, he needs a good Wilsoning next time we see him. Team hasn't been the same since he hit Leonard and then chickened out of a fight when Wilson offered. Don't give him a choice.

I have Monumental, but don't get the games live for some reason, have to watch the replays *but at least they're there*.
 
These losing streaks are crazy. Ovi goal record is great but the team needs wins
 
This team needs to come out after the Olympic break playing more consistent or we're chasing a wild card and a first round exit.

If lucky! I would be happy to make it into the playoffs at this point. Man, what a reversal of fortune. I honestly thought they had the secret sauce going into December. I am usually pessimistic, especially about Nov/Dec hockey but something really looked like it clicked.

Tough games to watch.

Hopefully they can figure it out. Right now it looks to me like they have a mixture of problems. They also had some big injuries but some of the play has been questionable as well.

Agree with turtle - we have had some awkwardness in goal. If that resolves at the right time and LT gets hot in April… we can hope? He is that kind, who can get on a sustained hot streak.

I just know a few of these Ls his goals saved above expected was atrocious.

Basically means he was letting easy ones in.

I also get a little more frustrated with him sometimes, maybe unfairly, because I think he has the best defensive structure in front of him than many Caps goalies for quite some time. Except Carlson who has also had some stinkers recently.

I could be off but I think he was 2 or 3 before the swoon. So hopefully it is just normal ebb and flow. If he times a rise by April all is forgotten.
 
Hate to see Carlson go but we're not a contender and giving him a shot at another cup while getting good draft capital is solid especially with his contract expiring. I'm dreading the Ovi drama forth coming this off season on whether he resigns, retires or heaven forbid wears another sweater.

Didn’t expect this at all but it feels the best for future. Also now unblocking for youth infusion which is needed. Carlson minutes are underrated though.
 
I thought this season was rolling different in November. So many past playoff seasons with poor or mediocre Novembers taught me not to conclude based on play then. Somehow this year felt different and yet here we are.

I still think Carberry can do good things but the NHL has a quick hook. I guess we will see what happens next year. He should be fine this offseason but next year…

I think Todd Nelson was a loss for tha organization too.
 
Well, they don’t control their own destiny with one to go.

Tomorrow while the Caps sit at home, if the Flyers beat the Hurricanes the Caps are eliminated. So we have to really hope for the Canes to win. Even an OTL means the Caps have a shred but of course a regulation loss would be great.

It feels weird to say it but, let’s go Canes?! Blech
