Burner's Burning Questions: The Fifty-Three Man Roster And Practice Squad, 2015

Like your latest roster BB. But I'd make a couple changes.

1. We keep a 5th RB, Trey Williams. They could work with Jones as a backup FB. As Darrel Young will also be the 3rd or 4th/emergency TE.
2. I'd have Toast, aka, Amerson, on the trading block. Would take a 4th or better for him, like right now.

It's entirely possible. Will they go after Phil Taylor for depth? He's young and a good option. I almost expect that we will sign a decent TE. Maybe a safety for depth. Possibly a CB (let Amerson go?).

Anything is possible, but I'm clueless as anyone else here. Deadline to cut to 53 is Saturday at 4 pm EDT. However, we could be active for a day or two after that deadline. So stay tuned.

BB - do you think that there is any chance that Brandon Bostick gets an interview? Skins have gone after a few guys that most others would not. Not necessarily signed but just talked to.

Well we gave up a #5 pick for Derek Carrier, he better turn out to be a 'decent' TE.........................

No idea.

VERY conditional - 2017.

Do you think Robert Griffin, III becomes a healthy scratch for all sixteen games? Traded? Released? Will we sign any other players that get released from other teams? Are there any free agents that interest you? See you as we go along.

Hail To The Redskins!

I like your list a lot. Right now imho we should keep Ross, over Grant & Spencer if need be.

Id also have Jeffcoat in the 5th spot, dude came to play this preseason.

Ross won't make it to the practice squad. Someone will snap him up.

Dude put some very good things on tape.

I will be sorely disappointed if they don't find a way to keep Ross on the active roster. I understand that there is always he next 'Sultan' who dazzles on pre-season but can't replicate it when the games count. But he is the kind of player that, when he's involved in a play, good things happen.

This is a team coming off a 4-12 campaign and is clearly in rebuilding mode.

Given that, I take the Jimmy Johnson road of selecting the younger player if two guys are close for spots on the final roster.

Guys like Rashad Ross and Jackson Jeffcoat MAY have upsides in the NFL and I don't think we can afford to kiss them off so easily to keep safer but more limited players such as Andre Roberts, etc.

I would eat the cap hit in 2015 to move a guy like Roberts that could end up losing the slot job to Crowder and the PR job as well.

I would like to have seen Ross get some plays with the 1st team ... he's in in the NFL four years and cut by four teams, including the Skins. He probably should be able to stand out going strictly against 2s and 3s--particularly given we have had solid QB play from Kirk and Colt when Ross was out there.

I love what I've seen from the guy, but the rubber will hit the road where Gruden & Co. decide, based both on the games and practice, if Ross has really made a jump from bubble guy to legit contributor. Hard to make an educated guess on that from only watching preseason games on TV where he's going against backups.

It would be interesting to find out whether they've run him against the starting defense at all this summer ...

the 'X' factor for me is that Ross has 4.39 speed.

if there is one thing the Redskins based on 2014 need to do is upgrade their overall team speed.

Ross has shown that he can contribute as on special teams as a kick and punt returner and that ties him with Spencer in regards to the ST 'chip'.

I agree that the coaches should have given Ross a chance with the #1's and #2's earlier on so we can get a better read on his upside.

But to me Andre Roberts at 28/29 is a guy that is simply taking up roster space.

He came in here supposedly with the capabilities to be a #2 receiver, but we have seen little of that. He regularly dropped passes in 2014 and was abominable on special teams as a returner.

Let's give him the boot in 2015 when we have some cap flexibility to take the hit.

Next year we have to decide on a group of players that are currently on short term deals and I would rather admit this mistake now.

It is. His first year in the league was 2013. He's a pup.

He's 25, the same age as Robert Griffin III whom some fans are still calling a 'very' young player.

Correct--my bad. He's been in the league three years. I read the "cut by four teams" thing and did that ass of you and me thing.

Doesn't really change my take on him though. Would have like to see him compete with and against the ones a bit to get a sense if a guy who has been the definition of a bubble player for three years has made as big a step up as it appeared against 2s and 3s on TV.

Rooting for him.

I swear I do remember him getting a few snaps with the 1's, or at the very least, the 1.5's.

I'll have to check my dvr.

He looked a lot more comfortable on returns the last two weeks. For the most part, taking it north and south.
