There is no way McRib is beating out Long at any spot imho. The McRib sandwich is about to disappear from the menu options for good.

Isn't Long our starting RG? I don't really think there's a comp between him and Rib for backup center.

The key word is "Backup"
It's not uncommon to have a starter at another OL position be the backup for another. And then shift someone else into his original position, while he subs for an injured player.

Right... but the comment was made about 'last cut day.' Regardless of Long being a backup plan at Center and maybe competing for that job, having him as our starting RG trumps that being a part of the decision.

I'm trying to recall a specific example.
IIRC, wasn't Chris Chester our backup Center last year ?
If so, then why would it be out of the question for Long ?

Maybe I'm not explaining correctly.


There was a post regarding who would survive last cut, and that the winner of the competition of backup C... between Long and Rib would be a determining factor of that. My point was that Long was already inked as our starting RG so he's not going to get cut because he loses the competition at backup C

I see, but I wasn't implying at all, that Long might be cut if he loses the backup Center battle.
Or either of them.
LeRib could still win the backup Center job, and Long of course, still keeps his starting RG spot.
The only difference is, Long ends up with just 1 "title", instead of 2.
Or Long could win the backup Center job, and LeRib stays on the team, as a backup Guard.
In other words, I just see them competing for an additional backup spot, not for a roster spot.
I don't see any reason why Long and LeRib can't coexist on the same roster. That scenario is certainly not out of the question, either. It's not like we're loaded with highly competitive talent on our backup O-line

Very true, my bad I was going on your response to the post you quoted when it was referencing the 'final cut day.' Sorry if I was confusing lol.

I have no problem with multiple people being able to wear multiple hats, as long as the guy who's best at wearing a particular hat, is the one wearing it the majority of the time.
 
LeRibeus is actually the primary backup at center while Reiter is considered to be a candidate for the practice squad. The Rib is quietly having his best camp. Long is the starter at RG.

Yea I was about to mention Reiter in the mix, as well. But I figured, as a 7th rounder, he is likely a longshot to beat out the guys ahead of him.

I count 55, not 53. I see Jordan Reed is so good he made the squad twice. Looks like you'll have to cut one more.

Our 5th pick over all is starting at right guard today against the Texans while Moses was the starting Right Tackle. Nothing etched in stone but the 1st game of the preseason will say alot unless there are injuries on the Offensive line.
 
Any chance Spencer makes the team over Roberts?

Andre is $2.75M against the cap this year but also $4M next year and another $4M in 2017. Seems like there is some money there that could be played with to some degree in terms of a contract for Trent.
 
For now, Roberts is holding his own. Probably his last year on the roster.
