Burner's Burning Questions: Predicting The Fifty-Three Man Roster And Practice Squad,

It’s hard to tell what the big plan is to address the D-line. I think it may be a case of need not matching up with opportunity. I think over the past couple of drafts we’ve done a very good job of addressing some of the talent issues we had. The depth we’ve added with non-starters has gone a long way IMO to improving our special teams which were some of the worst in football.

We haven’t had the luxury of drafting for need and free agency has not traditionally been the best place to find value on the DL. So….here we are. Terrance Knighton was not the answer. If he was we would have paid him. The Pats cut him, so that just reinforces the thought that we made the right decision to move on. Ioannidis looks to be a project but I'm not ready to give up on him yet.

Losing Galette again hurt a lot but I'm curious to see what Smith can do. The run defense scares me, but we’ll just have to do our best to hide it. Score more.
 
Of course, the flip side to all my happy talk about the line maybe not being as crucial as maybe it used to be is ...

So don't get me wrong. I'd be a more sanguine Redskins fan heading into 2016 if we had two or three big ol' borderline psycho old-school ass-kicking mofos up front too.
 
Besides the Center position, the DL is one of my biggest fears going into the season.

I fear we're going to get manhandled up front trying to stop the run just as much as I fear we won't be able to run the ball on a consistent basis.

Can't say for sure either will happen until I see the team play about the first four games of the season. Then we'll know.

Tom Petty WAS right...the waiting is the hardest part.
 
Centers are reportedly still available if McLovin is interested.

Eagles also indicated willingness to other teams to potentially move C/G Stefan Wisniewski as well. Clearly looking to move OL.

We had him in for a visit when he was a free agent last spring and decided to pass.....or he decided to pass on us.
 
I know he was the hot center on the market a year or two ago. But he was asking a ton. I assume he's cheaper now, but I could be wrong.

I just looked it up. He signed a very reasonable contract with the Eagles $760,000 base with a $500,000 signing bonus and a $250,000 roster bonus. Looks like it was a "show me" type deal, just like the one he signed the year before with the Jags. Not sure why he didn't get a better offer somewhere in free agency. Looks like he made the rounds.

My concern: The Raiders didn't want to keep him, the Jags didn't want to keep him and now the Eagles have made it known that they don't want to keep him, even at a reasonable salary. Could be the Eagles are just tying to move any asset that has value and doesn't fit into their long term plans....or they know something that we don't. On paper it's a bit of a head scratcher.

If he's better than what we have, why not sign him right now and dump Licht? Maybe our players are better?

or tackle properly! Most NFL players tackle leading with their helmet, and then the runner just bounces off any attempt to wrap him up. 10+ yards gained, first down and the defence has to start again.

Funny you should mention tackling. I was watching some of the rugby union premiere matches from the UK last weekend and I noticed right off the bat how good the tackling was. Very impressive.

Rugby League is even more impressive when it comes to tackling. Miss a tackle and the opposition will score. Miss a tackle and you let your teammates down.

If Lauvao can stay healthy at LG, why not let Long take the Center spot over Kory ?

I wonder if he actually ever healed up from the ACL injury. Seems like he's collected a few jersey's over the last couple of years. Can't see where it could hurt to bring him in for a look, though.

I may have missed it but has Scot (or anyone else for that matter) reached out to Sullivan?
Maybe he's pricing himself above market value or is just waiting for a team to get desperate during the season because of an injury...
...so he'd wind up here anyway..
 
2 back surgeries for Sullivan. No one is going to give a 31 year old center a guarantee at this point. He will sign for Week 2.
 
Sources inside the Packers locker room tell me the Josh Sitton situation was "combustible at best." A confrontation w/Clinton-Dix got racial.
