Burner's Burning Questions: Predicting The Fifty-Three Man Roster And Practice Squad,

This may be stretching it, but do you think they see Sudfeld as insurance, and/or leverage, in case all offseason negotations with Cousins just go nowhere, and him and his agent make insane demands, and Suds could be the eventual heir to the role ?
Sure, I think that's part of the equation. But I think that would be true whether they'd signed Kirk long-term or not. I've always been okay with teams drafting developmental QB's in the late rounds ... Gibbs used to espouse that way back in the day, and I think it largely holds true throughout the league today. The one thing a franchise can never do--never more so than in today's passing league--is to find themselves w/o a young QB either ready to step in or well along that path. If they don't, they would do well to draft one. Injuries, free agency, whatever the reason. It's not hard to go around the league and point to teams that have struggled for years and years because they can never seem to get that timing right.

That's how Green Bay and San Francisco operated for years. Even with Favre aboard, the Packers drafted Aaron Brooks, Mark Brunell, Matt Hasselbeck, and others they used as insurance and then trade bait.

Beathard drafted Rypien and Humphries in Round 6 even though the club already had a starting qb in 1986 who set the team record for passing yards and touchdowns in Jay Schroeder.

Ironically, BOTH sixth rounders took teams to Super Bowls later in their careers.

I guess no matter where in the draft teams grab a QB it's with the hope he can become the heir apparent at some point. I don't think there is too much concern about how long it might take for Sudfeld to be ready to start for the moment but perhaps he is seen more as insurance and/or replacement for McCoy. He hit's the cap at $3.6M in 2017 and another $3.6M in 2018. Colt is still young (29) and is worth it but on the other hand if you got a guy that can develop in a year or two at least as a solid #2 guy for a lot less cash and a lot more future it's a good deal.

Redskins have been keeping 3 QB's on the roster for the last few years. They've had some trouble with injuries at the position and losing Chase Daniels off waivers in 2009 trying slide him onto the PS could be part of it. Whether Chase would have done anything with the Redskins isn't the point - they put Brennan on IR, cut Chase the next day (53 man cuts), NO signed him the next day off waivers leaving the Redskins with Collins & Campbell. Collins was 38, Campbell was Campbell and Washington later swiped Richard Bartel from the Jags PS that Thanksgiving, which didn't make much sense considering how little time there was in the season to bring him up to speed. So if there's a young QB they want to keep, especially after spending all camp with him to figure it out, they might not be so willing to gamble with PS waivers.

What are the odds we keep 6 DB's?

and are all of the DBs currently on this roster? :)

How many actual DB's do they have? IDK, outside of Blackmon & Hall can any of the other secondary guys play both CB & Safety?
Might make a difference on how many backfield players are kept (or added) and they might be able to squeeze by with one less if so.
And, yeah I know there's reason's why Hall & Blackmon aren't at CB any more but in case of emergency - break glass.
