Today we bring you the latest mock. It features trades and other exciting information. In the coming weeks we will have mocks that focus on trades, multiple trades, and two mocks that are BGO member centric.

Next week we will go to three mocks a week. The week of the draft will feature a mock each day.

Round One: A’Shawn Robinson, DE/DT, Alabama
One of the best defensive linemen to ever play for the perennial national title contender. A force for the SEC’s Crimson Tide. He can play inside or slide outside as a 3-4 end. A run stuffer. A pass rusher. Great attitude. A dominating force who can overwhelm an offensive line. Robinson is everything you could want in a defensive lineman and more.

Round Three: Darian Thompson, FS, Boise St.
The free safety class for 2016 is a bit weak, but there are a few standouts and Thompson is one of the better prospects. He has the size, length, and physicality that teams like from their safeties. The two time All-American from the Mountain West program could develop into an elite defender. Takes good angles when defending receivers and running backs. Has the ability to blitz and get around tackles quickly.

Round Three: Cyrus Jones, CB, Alabama
Let’s get some bad news out of the way. In early 2015, Jones was arrested for a domestic issue. The charges were dropped a week later (Tuscaloosa police and city attorney) after it appeared to be settled (altercation was verbal and not physical). Most teams have lowered his draft stock by one round. Now, some good news. Jones is one of the fastest players in the draft. The All-SEC player has the size to intimidate receivers. Very confident. Good in the run game. Switched from WR two seasons ago and has played the position ever since, so upside is enormous. Excellent punt return skills as he will occasionally take one to the house.

Round Four: Trade
The Redskins trade down to the latter portion of the fourth round and gain fifth, sixth, and seventh rounders.

Round Four: Jordan Howard, RB, Indiana
Indiana is known as a basketball mecca and the football team is something of an afterthought. The Hoosiers have seen some good fortunes on the gridiron last few years and Howard is a big reason for that buzz. Even with Tevin Coleman (now with the Atlanta Falcons), his backfield running mate last year, Howard was a running machine and still rushed for more than 1,500 yards. He is overlooked because of being in a lower tier program within the Big Ten, but has the size and strength to excel at the next level.

Round Four: Hassan Ridgeway, DT, Texas
The All Big12 performer is like the classic blue collar worker who packs his lunch and comes to work with a positive attitude. There is nothing flashy about him other than dependability and reliability. He can occupy blockers at the line and apply pressure in the running and passing games. Ridgeway will likely add about ten to fifteen pounds of bulk to his sturdy frame. For his size, the Longhorn is deceptively quick on his feet. Pretty much an unmovable object on the field.

Round Five: Max Tuerk, C, Southern California
Max Tuerk, a center from perennial PAC-12 power Southern California, is an equally powerful force in the running and passing offense. He does have an injury concern and will likely be limited by the time rookie camp begins. Tuerk should be good to go for training camp and perhaps the latter part of OTAs and mini camp. Pulls excellently on sweeps and screens. Mechanics are top notch. Rarely makes a mistake. Adjusts quickly and very well to moving/explosive targets with a laser like focus. Needed to add about twenty to twenty-five pounds of bulk to his lanky frame and is doing so – very close to that target. Unfortunately (and this is true for most centers), no extended videos exist – just a few plays here and there.

Round Five: Jayron Kearse, SS, Clemson
For several years now a few teams have wanted taller and faster safeties on their rosters. The All-ACC performer certainly fits that prototype (6-5, 220), but comes with more than just being supersized as a strike safety. Covers running backs and tight ends like a very snug fitting glove. Has a physical streak to him. Kearse, who has NFL bloodlines (Jevon Kearse is his uncle and Phillip Buchanon is a cousin), can also cover bigger receivers with relative ease. Has good timing on jumping routes, but can overplay on occasion.

Round Five: Blake Martinez, ILB, Stanford
Martinez is a relentless baller who plays intelligently and within his skillset. The PAC-12 first teamer, a captain for the Cardinal, is a leader on and off the field. He is solid in the passing and rushing defense and has a great nose for the ball. Seems to be around most plays and creates a disruptive force against offenses. Well regarded and respected by opposing coaches and players. A solid core player who would be exceptional on special teams.

Round Six: Maurice Canady, CB, Virginia
Do you need another punt returner who can score the occasional touchdown? He’s capable. The ACC specialist is a pretty good corner as well and is rated a bit higher by many scouting services. However, he regressed somewhat during a senior season that was hindered by poor team play. Deceptively quick. Canady has the size and strength that most teams covet, but will need a year or two on the bench. Could make his mark on special teams and then make the transition to nickel and dime back.

Kirkland has fallen a bit in the minds of some scouts, but it could mean a big steal for the Redskins. Arkansas is known for having quality offensive lines over the years and Denver Kirkland is the latest product from that system. He has a very nasty disposition in the mold of a Russ Grimm and a Brandon Scherff. A bit underrated (even more so now), Kirkland would be a very good fit at left guard – the side with which he is most familiar or as a quality backup. More than held his own against rugged SEC competition. Recent tapes of his performances have been inexplicably dropped from the internet, but we hope they will resurface again soon.

Round Seven: Cody Kessler, QB, Southern California
The Redskins will certainly take a quarterback in this draft as a developmental project and the all PAC-12 obviously fits that profile. He sees the field very well and goes through his progressions quickly and efficiently. Able to improvise with ease. Leads the west coast offense with short and intermediate passes with an amazing degree of accuracy. Could stand to improve on his longer pass accuracy. Would fit extremely well in the Redskins offense.

Are you looking for a special teams player that is able to contribute immediately? Are you looking for a diamond in the rough? Look no further. Clayton Fejedelem is an aggressive free safety who led the Big Ten in tackles last year. He was solid in the Illini’s pro day and had a great East-West Shrine game. Fejedelem has constantly silenced his critics and continues to do so. So yes, he would be a seventh round steal.

Round Seven: Ian Seau, OLB, Nevada
He has a famous last name. Yes, the Mountain West product is a nephew of the late Junior Seau and like his famous uncle, Ian plays linebacker. He may not have the overall talent of his well known relative, but Ian Seau is a good football player. His specialty is rushing the passer. He would be an extra body on the field during passing downs and would need to make the roster as a special teamer as well. He lacks speed, but makes up for it with determination and toughness.

A disruptive force who can take on double teams and allow the OLBs a direct path to the quarterback. Deceptive speed. Very, very strong.

It’s hard to argue this choice. He would fill a need and be a great selection in the first round. Solitary Man thinks we should take Reggie Ragland (ILB, Alabama) in the first and BBQ can see the logic in his recommendation.

Round Two: Vernon Butler, DT/DE, Louisiana Tech

Although he could be gone when the Redskins select in round two, we can’t rule it out completely. Grabbing a second defensive lineman in row? BBQ likes it and the members here seem to love that idea.

Cornerback is certainly a bigger need than most Redskins fans realize. Well, BGO Redskins fans are pretty smart and taking Bradberry here could be a great selection.

Yes, we do need a center and BBQ has him in round five of the latest mock. I may or may not prefer other players in the various mocks, but remaining objective is important. However, this is one time where I agree with one portion of a BBQ mock.

Round Six: Cassanova McKinzy, ILB, Auburn

Interesting first name, but heck of a football player. Grabbing an ILB who could contribute on special teams is a good pick here.

Round Seven: Brandon Doughty, QB, Western Kentucky

A developmental QB is expected to be a late round choice for the Redskins. The last time a Redskins team used a late round pick on a player with the same last name, it worked out pretty well.

Round Seven: KeiVarae Russell, CB, Notre Dame

Late round defensive backs and linebackers usually are drafted with the special teams unit in mind. Taking a CB with such skills at this juncture of the draft makes perfect sense.

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2016 (Continual Updates)​

Greetings from BBQ World Headquarters.

Today we bring you the latest mock and it features trades and other exciting information. This week we will feature three mocks. Next week will bring four mocks. For draft week a new mock will be posted each day.

This weekend we will have the second of our BGO member-centric mocks. Be sure to get your mocks and preferences posted/known.

The videos that we post for various prospects will contain rough language on occasion. We apologize and recommend that you turn down the volume if offended.

Feel free to offer your own ideas about the draft, free agency, team cuts, and anything else related to these subjects. Too, we’d like to see your mocks if you are so inclined.

Without any further delays, let’s take a look at the latest mock for 2016.

Round One: Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor
The Redskins need youth and dependability on the defensive line for 2016 and beyond. Enter Andrew Billings. The Redskins have a decent running game defense. Billings can make it much better. The Redskins have a poor pass rush. Billings can make it much better. The Big 12 star plays low to the ground and can gain exceptional leverage. A disruptive force who can take on double teams and allow the OLBs a direct path to the quarterback. Deceptive speed. Very, very strong.

Round Two: Keanu Neal, FS, Florida
The free safety class for 2016 is a bit weak, but there are a few standouts and Neal is one of the better prospects. Wait, didn’t we say the same thing about Darian Thompson? Yes. He has the size, length, and physicality that teams like from their safeties. Wait, didn’t we say the same thing about Darian Thompson? Yes. So, what is the difference? Neal has a tendency to make running backs who enter his territory a personal mission and seeks to destroy. The same for receivers and tight ends. The all SEC standout is solid in all phases of the game and could start immediately. Needs to do a better job of protecting himself from injuries.

Round Three: Cyrus Jones, CB, Alabama
Let’s get some bad news out of the way. In early 2015, Jones was arrested for a domestic issue. The charges were dropped a week later (Tuscaloosa police and city attorney) after it appeared to be settled (altercation was verbal and not physical). Most teams have lowered his draft stock by one round. Now, some good news. Jones is one of the fastest players in the draft. The All-SEC player has the size to intimidate receivers. Very confident. Good in the run game. Switched from WR two seasons ago and has played the position ever since, so upside is enormous. Excellent punt return skills as he will occasionally take one to the house.

Round Three: Trade
The Redskins trade down to the middle of round four and pick up fifth and sixth rounders.

Round Four: C.J. Prosise, RB, Notre Dame
Prosise is an ACC performer who started out as a wide receiver, but moved to running back. Yes, he is quite effective at catching the ball from the backfield and producing big gains. Has the burst to take it to the house on any given play. Excellent size. Good speed. Originally recruited as a safety. Excels on special teams. Solid runner between the tackles and would be better in a power running scheme. Can handle a workload, but needs a few games to adjust to the NFL.

Round Four: Hassan Ridgeway, DT, Texas
The All Big12 performer is like the classic blue collar worker who packs his lunch and comes to work with a positive attitude. There is nothing flashy about him other than dependability and reliability. He can occupy blockers at the line and apply pressure in the running and passing games. Ridgeway will likely add about ten to fifteen pounds of bulk to his sturdy frame. For his size, the Longhorn is deceptively quick on his feet. Pretty much an unmovable object on the field.

Round Five: Max Tuerk, C, Southern California
Max Tuerk, a center from perennial PAC-12 power Southern California, is an equally powerful force in the running and passing offense. He does have an injury concern and will likely be limited by the time rookie camp begins. Tuerk should be good to go for training camp and perhaps the latter part of OTAs and mini camp. Pulls excellently on sweeps and screens. Mechanics are top notch. Rarely makes a mistake. Adjusts quickly and very well to moving/explosive targets with a laser like focus. Needed to add about twenty to twenty-five pounds of bulk to his lanky frame and is doing so – very close to that target. Unfortunately (and this is true for most centers), no extended videos exist – just a few plays here and there.

Round Five: Tajae Sharpe, WR, Massachusetts
Tajae Sharpe is a fun player to observe as he makes difficult catches seem routine. He has an array of acrobatic catches in his arsenal and makes the impossible receptions when you least expect it. Superior size with a superior skillset – exactly what the Redskins are searching for in a new wide receiver. Runs precise routes. Shakes coverage on short, intermediate, and long range passes with a can do attitude. Played in a pro-style system for the MAC’s Minutemen and transitioning to the NFL could be seamless. Needs to work on his YAC.

Round Six: Maurice Canady, CB, Virginia
Do you need another punt returner who can score the occasional touchdown? He’s capable. The ACC specialist is a pretty good corner as well and is rated a bit higher by many scouting services. However, he regressed a somewhat during a senior season that was hindered by poor team play. Deceptively quick. Canady has the size and strength that most teams covet, but will need a year or two on the bench. Could make his mark on special teams and then make the transition to nickel and dime back.

Round Six: Tyvis Powell, FS, Ohio St.
Did Tyvis Powell declare for the draft one year earlier than expected? Yes. Was it too soon? Likely so. Advantage Redskins. He would be a better prospect in the 2017 draft, but decided to enter this year. He would need a year of sitting on the bench and playing special teams, then could be ready to take on the role of starting free safety. He has the size that teams covet these days. Physical player. Powell covers the field with ease and was the team MVP in the national championship game for the Big Ten’s Buckeyes.

Round Seven: Cody Kessler, QB, Southern California
The Redskins will certainly take a quarterback in this draft as a developmental project and the all PAC-12 obviously fits that profile. He sees the field very well and goes through his progressions quickly and efficiently. Able to improvise with ease. Leads the west coast offense with short and intermediate passes with an amazing degree of accuracy. Could stand to improve on his longer pass accuracy. Would fit extremely well in the Redskins offense.

Until a few days ago, the Big12 standout was a highly rated prospect, but he could be looking at serious legal troubles. It was just last year when La’el Collins had a serious charge leveled at him and was not drafted. It was very unfair and the timing was rotten. Could we see history repeating itself? Possibly. The allegations are serious. If no charges are filed by the draft, the Redskins could pull the trigger in the seventh. If charges are brought forth after the draft, then the Redskins can walk away with a minimal cap hit. Now, the football player. Large frame. Dominant on the defensive line. Explosive bull rush.

Round Seven: Ian Seau, OLB, Nevada
He has a famous last name. Yes, the Mountain West product is a nephew of the late Junior Seau and like his famous uncle, Ian plays linebacker. He may not have the overall talent of his well known relative, but Ian Seau is a good football player. His specialty is rushing the passer. He would be an extra body on the field during passing downs and would need to make the roster as a special teamer as well. He lacks speed, but makes up for it with determination and toughness.

This section will now be devoted to periodic updates.

Starting next year BBQ will not list prospects from other teams. It is literally impossible to know what moves will be made. GM McCloughan has a plan each season and FA is difficult to ascertain under his leadership.

The Redskins now have about $12.5M in cap space and haven’t restructured a contract thus far.

The FA additions have been devoted to adding depth.

The Redskins appear to be targeting next year as an offseason that is aimed at keeping key players. If the cap remains the same, the team will have about $45M in cap space.

The cap next season is expected to conservatively rise by about $10M or as much as $13M. That would give the Redskins about $55M to $58M in cap space.

Assuming a new contract for Kirk Cousins is in place this summer and after a post June 1 release of Andre Roberts, the Redskins could have $60M to $68M of cap space for 2017. Possibly a bit higher.

With the arrest of DE Shawn Oakman (Baylor) a short time ago and the serious nature of the charge (he has a poor history of troubles), BBQ will no longer include him in mocks or watch lists.

The draft strategy for Scot McCloughan will not change in light of offseason FA additions.

We’ll update the free agency as needed and as media chatter warrants. Give us your thoughts on free agency and what you think will happen.

He doesn't want to play special teams. That is a big negative for Scot. Only reason he is still on the roster is due to injury. Scot did not place him on IR. Jeffcoat ended up there only because no one claimed him on waivers. If he has changed his tune, then Scot could give him another chance.
