Not casting doubt on that McD5, but since the 'experts' miss as often as they hit on ranking players, I'd keep that in mind too. I guess from the POV that the bigger the pool, even if the miss rate remains high, the better the chance GMs hit on players who are not on the 'can't miss' list... It's always better to be looking at a 'deep' class at positions of need. I'm only pointing out that 'deep' isn't a fact, it's an opinion....

There's always an element of unknown. Nothing is guaranteed.

I remember Diesel putting up a thread prior to that WR draft that was pretty insane. You literally could have thrown a dart at any of them and come out well.

During the Senior Bowl last weekend, Kiper said that there are ten D-line players this year that most consider to be first round talents. The most he could ever recall in all of his years in the business. If you need D-line and you have Scot making the pick, it would seem that your timing is perfect.
 
We may also have the opportunity to trade back, or even out of the first round and still pick up somebody great.

I know there are a few players projected to go at 28-35 that a lot of people have their hearts set on.
 
2005 was a 'lousy' year for quarterbacks but Green Bay found Aaron Rodgers sitting there at pick #24 :D
 
I liked what Pot Roast brought to the table but he was on a one year 'show me' deal. I'm not in a position to judge his worth but did he do enough to warrant a longer term signing that both sides can agree on?

A few reporters like Keim have suggested that any deal would likely include weight clauses. I believe they want him to drop 30 pounds.

Maybe a little less pot roast and a little more fish or chicken lol.
 
I like Pot Roast and would like to see him brought back as a disruptive force, but he played a limited amount of snaps and had trouble getting on and off the field when substituting. He is not worth a big contract...he is a situational player.

The Packers game really exposed how important the rotation was to our defensive line. I would rather have someone who can be on the field more snaps. Pot Roast's abilities were certainly on display when Rodgers caught us a couple times trying to get him off the field. Ultimately, if he can't be on the field when we need him, it's a problem. I do not remember seeing him on the field at all in the 4th Q of the Packers game...we needed him.
 
McShay's newest mock was released today.

He says DL for the Skins in round 1, but a DL from Alabama.

BB, I think you are right on with DL in the first. I'd bet there's an 80% chance we'll take one for reasons already listed, and a 20% chance of corner or safety.

Stats are meaningless unless put into context. With that said, here's an interesting list of the top yards-per-touch players in the NFL this season. All players had to have at least 200 touches to qualify.

Number 4 jumps off the page as a FA this year from BB's list.

At only 24 years old, I bet we'll be one of several teams looking into him.

RB1 may be a dying breed, but Miller is going to want to get paid (I would too), and I don't think throwing that kind of money at a RB makes a ton of sense.

Particularly if we aren't going to be paying Morris. I would rather see Scot draft another youngin to compete with Jones, et all.
 
I'm not sure that bidding wars for RBs even exist anymore.

But Miller will probably be the hot name for teams looking to upgrade that position. He seems to be the complete back. Both in rushing and receiving.
 
With the Battling Outpatient Brigade we currently have in the backfield, I'd feel better if Miller had some more carries under his belt. As a full time starter over the past three seasons, he has averaged 195 carries a season. His career high is 216.

In his very diminished and feeble role Morris ran the ball 202 times this season. If Gruden is actually going to want to run the ball with any sort of consistency I would think he'd want someone with a little more heft to his ground game.

McLovin's draft tendencies. The last one shocked me.


From 1994-2009 McCloughan’s teams drafted at least one WR every year with exception of 2002. Only two were first round picks (both top 10 picks).

Tends to draft multiple DBs a year. This proved to be true in 2015 when McCloughan selected two DBs back-to-back in the sixth round.

Scot McCloughan clearly values Wide Receivers and Defensive Backs. At each stop during his career, McCloughan’s teams have drafted multiple receivers and defensive backs in almost every draft.

McCloughan does have a trend drafting QBs. Especially as a Green Bay Packer, they drafted QBs almost every year.

McCloughan isn’t afraid to take a kicker or punter high in the draft if that player is capable of being a franchise guy at those respective positions. With Green Bay, McCloughan and staff took a kicker/punter in the third and fourth round.

I know we are set at both kicker and punter.....but third and fourth round? Easy, tiger. I'm hoping that was just youth.

Yeah, that's hard to say. More carries equals more wear and tear. Less carries equals fresher. I guess it just comes down to his preference.

It's also interesting to see the first name on that list. I wouldn't have guessed that.

I'm not expecting any huge splashes in FA, but numbers 1 and 4 share some commonalities that might appeal to our FO. Or, they could just draft one.
 
With a coach who is so inflexible with his system, not sure he could create a RB on Madden that would please him. And, again, would he even know how to use him if he did.

This reminds me of Bobby Beathard. Seems like he would always take a QB late in a draft. Beathard drafted Rypien, Humphries, and Trent Green in later rounds.

Teams with serious cap issues could help the Redskins if they have their eyes on a certain player or players. However, teams with plenty of cap room could snipe a Redskins player.

Several changes have been made for this week and are reflected in the listings.

In talking with several Redskins beat reporters, BBQ has learned the following: Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson have hefty cap numbers and decisions need to be made. Restructures, releases, one or the other? No one knows, but the Redskins are looking closely at the situation. The odds are increasing for Dashon Goldson being released (with no cap hit). A real unknown is Jason Hatcher, but he could decide to retire – a decision that could be known within the next few weeks. Alfred Morris will be allowed to explore his options, but could actually return on a vet minimum contract.

The ship has sailed on Josh LeRibeus. There is a 99.99% chance that he will not return. Perry Riley is another player who likely will not return and be released. Shawn Lauvao may never return to form with his various leg injuries. Other players above have their situations mentioned, but no other insight is known at this time. Inadvertently, BBQ left Ihenacho’s name off of the restricted free agent list, but is added now. The oft injured safety is an unknown choice for now as he has appeared in only four games the last two years. He would cost $1.6M against the cap if signed/retained.

The Chris Culliver situation is interesting and BBQ thinks there will be a definite restructure in his immediate future or be released. Also, we have decided to include very good football players on the free agent list from other teams only. It is almost impossible to know who of the “lesser” players could be targeted, so no attempts will be made unless media chatter dictates otherwise. Obviously the Redskins can’t sign each player, but we think that two very good free agents could be on the table.

We’ll update the free agency situations frequently and as media chatter warrants. The mock drafts for 2016 will be sparsely periodic until mid March. Give us your thoughts on free agency and what you think will happen.
