The Redskins Draft, 2015
Round One: Brandon Scherff, OT/OG, Iowa
***Official***
GM McCloughan stated his preference for “big uglies” who are nasty, mean, and aggressive. Scherff is arguably the best tackle/guard/offensive lineman on the board and the Redskins have now added him to the offensive line. According to a team source, Scherff was rated higher than the fifth overall choice by the Redskins. He is a beast in the running game and good in pass protection. Playing in the powerful Big Ten, he more than held his own against quality competition. He will start from day one and be a mainstay for the next dozen years or more. The Redskins reportedly have already named him the starting RT. Here is a video that describes the choice.

Round Two: Preston Smith, OLB/DE, Mississippi St.
***Official***
We also take the GM at his word that he wants an edge rushing OLB and was able to snag an absolute powerhouse of a player. The All-SEC OLB/DE is a hybrid prospect that will play primarily standing up, but can be placed at end in some 4-3 formations. He is an explosive player who will allow Trent Murphy to move inside to ILB and form a powerful linebacker corps. Smith is strong at the point of attack and has superior edge rushing skills. Rotoworld had him listed as the thirteenth overall rated player in this draft and BBQ never mocked him only due to thinking he would go in the mid to late first round. An absolute steal. Here is a video that describes the choice.

Round Three: Matt Jones, RB, Florida
***Official***
Why not? The GM did say that he was looking to add good players for Robert Griffin, III and this selection continues that process. When looking for a third down back, the Redskins go back to the SEC and find a bruiser. With the departure of Roy Helu to the Raiders, the Redskins find more than just a replacement. The Redskins get the better end of this deal as Jones is a superb receiver out of the backfield and a solid blocker in the passing game. Jones is a large, punishing back who can specialize in short yardage situations. One team had him listed as their top rated running back in the draft. We wonder what team… Patterns his game after Marshawn Lynch. Strong and physical, he has a workhorse capability and should be a very solid special teams contributor. Here is a video that describes the choice.

Round Four:
***Official***
The Redskins traded down in round three with Seattle and received picks in the fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds.
Round Four: Jamison Crowder, WR, Duke
***Official***
Why not? Were you surprised? Yes, he is a small WR and that is antithetical to what McCloughan prefers, but it’s deceiving when you look at what this prospect brings to the team. He likely settles into the slot position quickly and has a good first year. However, he likely becomes the dazzling PR/KR that we have been seeking for a long time. The first team All-ACC product led the league in receptions and had impressive campaigns over the last two seasons. Crowder probably ends the Redskins career of Santana Moss and puts Andre Roberts on notice. He is ambidextrous and can throw H-back passes with either hand. Could be a candidate for league honors on special teams. Here is a video that describes the choice.

Round Four: Arie Kouandjio, OG, Alabama
***Official***
The Redskins use their second of two fourth round selections on the local player from nearby Hyattsville. The All American went up against plenty of quality competition in the SEC and nationally ranked opponents. He is a strong pass protector who is ready to step into a starting role in the NFL at the left guard position as he brings a serious challenge to Shawn Lauvao. Kouandjio has dramatically improved on his pass protection skills over the last two seasons. Very athletic at the point of attack and has a very successful history of man-handling the biggest and most talented nose tackles. He is able to use his long arms to position his large frame at an advantage against would be tacklers in the running game. Still needs some refinement, but could push for a starting position much sooner than some may think. Will probably add about ten to twelve pounds of muscle to his body. Here is a video that describes the choice.

Round Five: Martrell Spaight, ILB, Arkansas
***Official***
The GM continued his theme of adding nasty and aggressive football players with the selection of the two time JUCO All-American. The first team All-SEC backer led the conference in tackles and will now shift from OLB to ILB with his new team. Spaight has a very high upside and even though he went where projected, it is not out of the question that he becomes a superb player for the Redskins. Possesses superb vision in the running game and is solid in pass coverage. He will push Perry Riley for a starting position. Will certainly be a special teams stud. Here is a video that describes the choice.
