Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2015 (Continual Updates)​

Here is our latest Redskins mock as we are now in draft week. Tomorrow we will showcase two mocks - one that is BGO member-centric and one that contains the “most likely” scenario. Friday and Saturday will bring “updated mocks”.

Feel free to offer your own ideas about the draft, free agency, team cuts, and anything else related to these subjects. Too, we’d like to see your mocks if you are so inclined.

Without any further delays, let’s take a look at the latest mock for 2015.


Mock Draft, 2015​

Round One:
The unthinkable happens and Leonard Williams falls to number five. The Redskins are certainly inclined to take him, but multiple offers come pouring in. The Atlanta Falcons make an offer that the Redskins take. The Redskins now have their first, second, and two seventh round picks. They also obtain Atlanta’s 2016 second round selection.


Round One: Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa
Scherff is arguably the best tackle/guard/offensive lineman on the board and the Redskins add him to the offensive line. He is a beast in the running game and great in the pass protection. Playing in the powerful Big Ten, he more than held his own against quality competition. He will start from day one and be a mainstay for the next dozen years or more.

Round Two:
The Redskins trade down in round two and obtain an extra third rounder.

Round Two: Eli Harold, OLB, Virginia
Harold is an explosive player who will allow Trent Murphy to move inside to ILB and form a powerful linebacker corps. The ACC product is strong at the point of attack with an initial burst that is hard to beat and is particularly strong against tight ends. He can drop back in coverage and is able to blitz against left tackles with a very quick first two or three steps.

Round Two: Eric Rowe, CB, Utah
The PAC 12 standout is solid in the running game and does an excellent job of jamming receivers at the line of scrimmage. As a tall and solidly built corner, Rowe has the ability to mirror a receiver that comes out of his release. He has a knack of forcing the ball from the receiver’s hands upon delivery. A great tackler who can play zone or man to man. He also played free safety for three years before making the switch to corner.

Round Three: Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise State
With the departure of Roy Helu, the Redskins use one of their third rounders as a replacement. The Redskins get the better end of this deal as Ajayi is a pass catching specialist and a superb blocker. He can be a three down back if needed and could be part of a formidable tandem with Alfred Morris. The former soccer player is quick on his feet and will fit into just about any running scheme.

Round Three: Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson
The first team All-ACC linebacker possesses great speed and sticks to tight ends with a consistently good coverage. He is quick from sideline to sideline. Occasionally called on to blitz and did so effectively. Anthony has a great attitude and is a hard worker.

Round 4:
The Redskins trade down in round four and pick up a fifth rounder.

Round 4: Durell Eskridge, FS, Syracuse
The Redskins add a talented free safety/strong safety from the ACC in a surprising move. Eskridge played FS, but he can play SS in the NFL as well. He will have the luxury of spending a year learning the system with no pressure of starting, but he could force Dashon Goldson or Jeron Johnson to the bench as the season progresses. With the newfound depth at S via free agency and from the draft, the Redskins will have size, speed, strength, depth, and needed talents at these two vital positions.

The Redskins trade down in round five and pick up a sixth rounder.

Round Five: Jamon Brown, OT, Louisville
Blessed with a very wide and thick frame, this All-ACC player is vastly underrated. He hopes to follow in the footsteps of another Cardinals and Redskins legend – Joe Jacoby. He would initially be a backup to Xavier Nixon/Tom Compton (RT) and could push for a starting position quickly. Brown is quick out of his stance and is able to neutralize defenders on a regular basis.

Round Five: Nick Boyle, TE, Delaware
Boyle comes from the Colonial Athletic Conference and can snag his share of receptions, but blocking is his forte. In fact, his superior blocking skillset is better than that of Logan Paulsen’s. Boyle could easily end the stay of the UCLA product.

Round Six:
The Redskins package two seventh round choices for a sixth round selection.

Round Six: Joey Mbu, DT, Houston
The Redskins had a private workout with Mbu and the interest in him is apparently very real. He has the size to shed blockers and often did so when excelling in the run defense. Not a pass rushing specialist, but was expected to occupy blockers and did so effectively against quality AAC competition. He could sub for Knighton at times when needed.

When looking for a third down back, the Redskins go back to the ACC and Louisville. Brown is a large, bruising back who can specialize in short yardage situations. Strong and physical, he has a workhorse capability and is a superb receiver out of the backfield. An excellent blocker.

Round Six: Max Garcia, C, Florida
The Redskins weren’t intending to take another offensive lineman, but they do go for BPA at this juncture in the draft and come away with an absolute steal and gem. Coming from Gator Nation and the SEC, Garcia is a team favorite and leader who visits the weight room regularly. He more than held his own at the Senior Bowl against highly rated prospects Danny Shelton and Carl Davis. He could be a day one starter.

Round Seven: Connor Halliday, QB, Washington St.
Halliday would be rated higher, but suffered a grueling ankle injury last season. Only recently has he fully healed and was able to impress at his pro day. The Redskins GM was at the workout to see the PAC 12 record setter perform in cold, rainy, raw conditions. Some would say that Halliday has the “it” factor that McCloughan covets and could be an absolute steal at this point in the draft.

Hoping that for once, things break our way tomorrow night and we can trade down with the Browns for the 12 & 19 picks and change.

Get a good player at 12(OL,LB,DT) and maybe get offers for 19 that could get us an extra pick or two.

Gonna have to conjure up some Redskins mojo for tomorrow night, some how..some way.
 
If the rumors are true that the Browns were offering 12 &19 to move up to the 2 spot, there's little chance they'll offer the same for 5.

Only way they trade up with us is if Mariota is available. 2-5 will have Eagles and Browns calling trying to work a deal.

Mayock has us getting Williams at #5 in on the NFL pre-draft show tonight. I'd buy that for a dollar.

Probably not at #5 but I have a feeling he's already being considered in various trade down scenarios. He has the size to be an every down player and played a bit in coverage at Kentucky.

I'm happy, if we stick at 5, with: Mariota, Williams, Fowler or Cooper. others? not as happy....but what the hay....McL presumably has a longer-term plan in play so I'll still be tossing back a j&c or two. we can't lose tomorrow - it's that simple! we're going to be drafting a future all-pro.....let us all hope.

Here is your choice for the fourth round pick. The Redskins add a talented strong safety from one of the obscure teams in the nation. The Southern Conference standout is very effective against the run, but needs to work a bit on coverage skills. With good coaching from Perry Fewell, it shouldn’t be an issue. Tartt is a quick learner and student of the game. He has the ability to play closer to the line and disrupt the short passing game. He will have the luxury of sitting/learning in his first year, but could get some experience along the way.

Shit! The more even the possibility of this happening crops up, the more I start Jonesing. And I don't want to Jones. I was perfectly happy thinking we'd end up with Fowler, or Cooper, or trading down and loading up on beef. Now? I want big Len on my team.
