David Amerson had a 12INT season once.

I think we learned something from David Amerson, another DB that had one great year in college that caught the Redskins eyes but otherwise was average and came into the NFL with question marks.

College production has to be taken into context.

I think interceptions/turnovers is a vastly overrated stat for corners.

Usually the corner with all the picks is a guy that is thrown on a lot because teams see something on film they think they can exploit.

Revis didn't get many picks because teams avoided his side of the field.

I remember reading that Shamahan based his opinions on highlight reels of a players good plays only. Believing he was so friggin awesome that he could coach the player to play like that all the time.

Only thing he was good at was picking running backs. And he was barely 50/50 at that.

Amerson lead the nation in INTs and we drafted him.

Trent Murphy lead the nation in sacks and we drafted him.

So much for finding Sherman in the fifth round.

What I don't like though is the conversation about Orakpo leaving turns first and foremost to using the #5 pick on a OLB instead of looking to our top pick from last season.

It's almost as if Murphy was drafted in the 6th round and viewed as a situational/role player instead of a potential starter and major contributor.

I believe the 3-4 requires a stout LB core. After a bona fide NT, of course. I don't get hung up on what round a guy comes from. Or even if he's drafted at all. I find it meaningless. If Murphy has a long productive career here, it just doesn't matter.

And if Mr McCloo thinks Vic Beasley, or any other OLB is the BPA when we pick, I have zero issues with it.

Murphys sucks as a pass rusher. the d-line signings will radically improve the run defense and toughen up the middle of the pass rush....but kerrigan is the only real consistent threat. pass rushers is where the value is at in the top end of this draft. the only viable option I see for not drafting a pass rusher is a trade-down.

I wondered where you were . I'm not SOLD that Murphy's pass rushing skills are doomed. I think he's shown some things, but struggled greatly in others with his pass rush abilities. I do think that we could do a heck of a lot worse then him, and while he's not at an elite level, just like any other position, he deserves a shot to continue to develop. If he can be even a plus pass rusher, it's more then we got from Orakpo, and his run defense could be very useful.


That being said, I have found myself trusting McLoughan... so whatever he picks, it works for me.

Boone....got it on the timeline. here's the thing. I watched him closely in pass rushing situations. he was manhandled by bigger tackles - he lacks quickness and speed. this isn't a "learn how to do it" situation IMO. he was good at run defense. not enough data on pass defense. but as a pass rusher...I think he lacks the athleticism to be a consistent threat.

Let's throw in the towel on the rookie with a clean bill of health, and let's build around the QB with 2 ACLs, a few concussions and a dislocated ankle. And one that is challenged reading NFL defenses.

Sure he does. But Toast has put up back to back stinkers in his first two seasons. Murphy already had a better rookie outing than Toast did. And I believe his 2nd year will be even better. I'm hopeful, yet far less certain that Toast will loose his nickname in this, his 3rd season.

We'll see. Maybe he just had a severe case of HazRaheemlet.

Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2015 (Continual Updates)​

The 2015 football season is underway as teams continue to jettison players and obtain new ones via free agency. Late April will be here quickly and we have our fourth mock for you today as the draft is now taking center stage. The mocks will gradually increase in number as we get closer to the draft.

Feel free to offer your own ideas about the draft, free agency, team cuts, coaching changes, and anything else related to these subjects. Too, we’d like to see your mocks if you are so inclined.

Without any further delays, let’s take a look at the latest developments and the fourth mock for 2015.

Mock Draft, 2015​

The Redskins watch as Marcus Mariota slides to the fifth overall selection. He is coveted by several teams and the Browns win a bidding war. Cleveland surrenders both of their first rounders, a third rounder, a fifth, and a 2016 second rounder. Also, keep in mind that Scot McCloughan has a reputation for trading liberally throughout the draft.

Round One: Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa
Scherff is arguably the best tackle on the board and slips to the Redskins at twelve. He is a beast in the running game and equally the same in the passing department. Playing in the powerful Big Ten, he more than held his own against quality competition.

Round One: Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida St.
The Redskins overhauled their defensive line in free agency and now they add another piece to that restructured unit. Even though the massively sized ACC prospect is a DT, he can slide outside for certain packages. Fans are excited about adding the nickname of “Goldman Sacks”.

Round Two: Arie Kouandjio, OG, Alabama
He is a strong run blocker who is ready to step into a starting role in the NFL. Kouandjio, seen as a likely prospect to replace Chris Chester, improved on his pass protection skills over the last two seasons. Very athletic at the point of attack and has a very successful history of man-handling the biggest and most talented of nose tackles.

Round Three:
The Redskins make their second trade of the draft as they move down in the third round and add an extra fourth rounder in the process.

Round 3: Garrett Grayson, QB, Colorado St.
Surprise! The new GM spots a quality QB for the taking and pulls the trigger on the Mountain West ace. Grayson is amazingly accurate with the long ball and has great arm strength. He has a high rate of consistency and places the ball exactly where his receivers can catch it. He is equally effective under center, in the pistol, and in the shotgun.

T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama
Rashad Greene, WR, Florida St.
Daryl Williams, OT, Oklahoma

Round Three: Gerod Holliman, FS, Louisville
The Redskins select a talented ACC player who is able to fill a huge need. Holliman immediately upgrades the free safety position as Ryan Clark is now retired. The Louisville standout has ball hawking skills and should become an instant starter.

Round 4: David Johnson, RB, Northern Iowa
Looking more like a linebacker in size, The Missouri Valley Conference prospect is a solid blocker and a pass catching specialist out of the backfield. Johnson usually sheds first and second tackle attempts. He has great speed for a RB of his stature. The former wide receiver caught the eye of many scouts at the Senior Bowl.

Round 4: Jacoby Glenn, CB, Central Florida
Glenn is a tallish corner who plays with an attitude that is similar to Bashaud Breeland. He is tough on receivers when in tight coverage and usually wins such battles. He tackles well and knows how to cover on deep routes. Doesn’t lack confidence and had a very solid 2014.

Round Five:
The Redskins get an offer from Tennessee – Kirk Cousins for their fifth round selection and GM Scot McCloughan signs off on the trade.

Round Five: Jarvis Harrison, G, Texas A&M
Aggie linemen have been nothing short of spectacular in recent years and Harrison is another in a long line of great tackles and guards from the SEC power. He is massive and some scouts considered him to be the most talented in a group of standouts on A&M’s line. He should move Shawn Lauvao to the bench.

Sean Mannion, QB, Oregon St.
Kaleb Eulls, DE, Mississippi St.
Corey Crawford, DE, Clemson
Xzavier Dickson, OLB, Alabama

Round Five: Taiwan Jones, ILB, Michigan St.
The Big Ten prospect has excellent size to go along with a solid game at the middle/inside linebacker position. He has a great burst to the ball, even after quickly shedding blocks. Jones is more of a running game specialist and has some weaknesses in the passing game – somewhat hidden when called upon to blitz – an area where he is very effective.

Round Five:
We have another trade. The Redskins trade a fifth round selection for choices in the sixth and seventh rounds.

Round Six: Darren Waller, WR, Georgia Tech
The Redskins really don’t have a need at the WR position, but there is no denying that Waller is talented and considered a sleeper in this draft. He has blazing speed (4.36 40) to go with a very large frame (6-6) – a rare commodity for WRs.

Jeremiah Poutasi, OG, Utah
Terry Williams, DT, East Carolina

Zachary Zenner, FB, South Dakota St.

Round Six: Jake Smith, C, Louisville
It’s highly unlikely for Smith to push for a starting role this season, but he would have good tutors in Bill Callahan and Kory Lichtensteiger. He could be inserted into the lineup in the next year or two.

Round Seven: Nick Boyle, TE, Delaware
Boyle comes from the Colonial Athletic Conference and can snag his share of receptions, but blocking is his forte. In fact, his superior blocking skillset is better than that of Logan Paulsen’s. Boyle could easily end the stay of the UCLA product.

Wilson has excellent speed and was able to more than hold his own in the pass-happy Big 12. He played both corner and free safety. Wilson figures to be drafted and installed as a free safety prospect. He has the size that McCloughan covets and could contribute immediately on special teams.
