If Trent wants a trade give it to him. You're a beast, when...you play if we can get a high third, deuces. Play 16, then talk money.

He's on the downside of his career. I can't see giving him a mega-deal at this point in his trajectory. I don't care how good he's been. He's 30 years old. This year will mark a decade in the league. And he hasn't played a full season since 2013.

I don't like this move. He waited all offseason and then decides to threaten to sit out - knowing full well he's got the team over the barrel when other avenues to filling that need have closed. That's a selfish, punk move in my book.

If he is, in fact, seriously going to sit out if they don't give him a big extension, I'd trade him so fast his head would spin.

Tough crowd in here tonight. Big Trent getting some pushback. Not sure how this is going to play out, but I think it is one of two things.

First --- Trent probably knows that another huge contract is not coming, but if he can squeeze just a small amount from the team (in addition to his current deal), then he may be fine with it.

Second --- this could be a different kind of tactic to get out of participating in mini camp and maybe some of training camp.

Yeah, love Trent but this is some BS. Hoping it's what BB suggested and he's just taking a camp break. Hell I could live with that and would go as far as saying he's earned it. At least the physical participation, he could however sit in film room and coach up the younger guys. This is some Drew Rosenhouse type ish though.

Wonder if Bruce told Trent's agent to go ++++ himself, I know I would like to see that. Let his agent do the leg work & find the trade partner as well

Yeah, this Trent situation sucks. He's a captain, right? The timing of him pulling this, does not reek of leadership and being a captain. Hopefully, it's just a ploy to get out of some camp time.

It also throws the offense overall out of whack. Harder to evaluate the qb competition, if the qb is running for his life. And he needs to get up to speed breaking in, and working with a new LG, timing with Guice, etc.

It is June, though. Hopefully this plays out well, and things get worked out in time.

I would not renegotiate his contract. Period.
I would listen to any trade offers that made sense.
I would prepare, starting today, as if he will not play for us this season.

He's not exactly in a position of strength, either. That's the funny part. This is a hunt for money. Great LT, but it's getting late on the back-9 and he's progressively more injured.

He knows the team is beyond thin at the position. So, Captain Me-Me-Me is trying to hold the team hostage.

Probably a failed drug test right around the corner.

Also from the same article. Flowers is making Ryan Anderson look like an all-pro. It should also be noted that Anderson is actually having a solid off-season.

Trent or no Trent, I think realistically, this is not a playoff team this season, or for that matter a playoff team that can cause damage in the postseason.

If and when this team is ready to compete in the NFC, will Trent Williams be part of that picture as a major contributor, or will his career essentially be over?

In my personal opinion, we need to lock up the pieces that we view as being integral cornerstones 3 to 5 years down the road. To me, Scherff takes priority over Williams in that regard.

Williams has a contract. We made him the highest paid LT already and he's still getting paid pretty handsomely.

I'd dare him to miss regular season games, and if so, start Keenum until we get the LT situation sorted out.
