Burner’s Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Yea, both of those division rivals seem to have a sense of urgency, something we seem to be missing.
Dallas even fired their OL Coach mid-season. Not sure that's the appropriate move, but at least shows
their making a serious effort to address their short-comings, and not wait or fiddle around with them.

It's called panic.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

The Eagles just traded a 3rd rounder for Golden Tate, who becomes a free agent at the end of the year. A third rounder for eight games. That's literally the deal they made.

Does anyone here seriously wish we had made that move?

It's either panic, like you said, or they believe he's the missing piece between missing the Super Bowl, or winning it again.
And considering they just put together a formula to win this year's past Super Bowl, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
On paper, yea it looks ridiculous, and it's a little like Minnesota giving up everything to pay Cousins, with the belief he's their only missing piece.
Time will tell, on both of those cases, if it's the missing piece they each hoped for.

And in no way am I sayin I would have given up a 3rd for the Redskins to make that deal, no.
Too much, for a team like ours.

Absolutely not! If a trade was going to happen, that price would be to high to pay to make it happen. That is the 5th or 6th WR the Eagles have brought in in the past 2 years.Way too much to invest at one position.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

I think it's just frustration on the part of Skins fans. And while the argument for a trade may not be valid, the frustration is justified.
We have the worst set of WR's in the division, and arguably the worst in the league.
Yet, instead of us making a move, the 2 teams that we lead by just a hair in our division, both upgraded at the position.
That and our current state at WR, doesn't exactly instill confidence that we can sustain our lead in the NFCE.
Hopefully getting Crowder and/or Quinn back will make a nice difference.

Oh I agree with you that the Eagles have better reason to make a move than the Cowboys. I was calling the Cowboys' moves panic moves. They aren't close. Firing coaches and trading away first round picks because they have a predictably average team is craziness, in my opinion.

The Eagles ... we're all a little flummoxed by their performance so far. :) We KNOW they are capable of playing better. They just ... aren't. I don't really follow the Eagles all that much, but I don't think personnel is their problem. I specifically don't think WR is their problem. That's an awfully steep price to find out.

As far as our Redskins go, well, they should have addressed the WR situation better in the offseason. They didn't and that stinks. But trading away picks now to bring in someone else's discard would just double-down on our offseason mistakes. Fix it through the draft or FA. Pick someone we really want, not one of three or four guys who happen to be available halfway through the season. Barring a miraculous string of injuries to about a half a dozen teams, we aren't winning the SB this year anyway. Play on and see what we need to fix, and then fix it when the season is over, the right way.

That's what I think.

I agree with pretty much all of this. Before I went dark :) I was banging the drum pretty hard about not letting both Jackson and Garcon go. I'm still not ready to let that go. :D

According to Schefter we traded for Ha-Ha Clinton Dix!

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Are the Redskins trying to imitate the Nationals at the trade deadline?

Is this a joke? The Ha! Ha! is on us.

We could have used a seasoned corner with man coverage skills but another safety?

We also could have used SOMEONE on offense that could help Peterson carry the load by catching some passes and being a consistent presence for Smith so he can settle down.

At least with the Cowboys and Eagles they were trying to address areas of clear need.

Swearinger is having a career season and Nicholson is at least solid/serviceable with good speed in coverage.

We also could have used another interior OL.

You do realize Shawn Lauvao is going to miss some more time in 2018, right? :)

I gotta be honest, I like this move better than picking up a WR. It plays into our strength. Clinton Dix is a better player at his position than anyone we could have gotten at WR. We now have two of the best safeties in the conference on our team. And he's only 25.

However, he's an UFA at the end of the season, so whatever we gave up for him is a big deal. I'm interested to see what that was.

EDIT: Reportedly we gave up a fourth rounder. That's higher than I would have liked.

Yeah, I just saw we will be giving up a 4th round pick for him. I am not sure this is the move we needed, but a 4th rounder isn't bad. We'll see how it works out. I think I'd rather have had Janoris Jenkins, but it looks like the Gnats were not really interested in trading him. I agree with you, we got more value out of the 4th round choice we gave up...I just wonder if this was reactionary more than anything else.

Now, Brandon Marshall is still out there. Not sure why the Sehags dumped him, but he had a solid season last year.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

im ok with this if he doesnt bolt after a season, otherwise it was a waste. even if it a 4th for a stud safety is solid. i would have loved an olineman or a wr but there were none on the block worth going after , thomas looks done

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Well, according to Galdi...if Ha-Ha doesn't re-sign with us at the end of the year, we'd be eligible for a compensatory pick for him. What Galdi doesn't explain is we're already fit to have just about as many compensatory picks as possible for one team.

Edit: Well once again...Henry is one step ahead of me on this topic. I'm just gonna shut up for now.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Sorry, my 13 year-old keeps running in and feeding me information. :)

Anyway, I don't know who Cody Benjamin is, but this is his take:

Quick thoughts on the deadline:

Best move? Probably Golden Tate to the Eagles or Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to Washington. Those are two very solid players who can immediately slot into starting roles for potential playoff teams, and future compensatory picks could offset their cost.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

According to @PFF DJ Swearinger and Haha Clinton-Dix are the two highest graded safeties in the NFL so far this season

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

At a minimum, it's a solid move.

With good potential to be a GREAT move.

Welcome Clintons ****!

Er um, Clinton Dix.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and DJ Swearinger have both played 100% of defensive snaps this year.
