Building a team, with what we currently have

That's funny. I'm supposing he woke up on day and said, "Jeebus, the fans are starting to stay away in droves! Revenues from merchandise are down! RG3 might not pan out! I need to do what I usually do at the end of a season, restore 'hope'...the same way I always have at the end of a bad season. I'll just HIRE someone! We won't explain what we're doing, but let everyone read into it their own optimism and let them talk that I've really caught onto how to do things better!"

And, then he thought, "I am a ****ing genius when it comes to marketing, aren't I? Heh-heh..."

No, but this is not the 'same ol' Redskins' type move. 1 month ago, hardly anybody knew who Scot McCloughan was. He's not Bruce Allen, son of George. He's not Joe Gibbs, the prodigal son. He's a football guy who very few people (nod to Elephant) outside of the NFL community, even knew who he was. I do think Snyder watched this team get gutted and hog tied by a talent ridden roster, and him and Bruce came to the conclusion that what they've been doing has not been working. Obviously he very well could still prove me wrong, but the only explanation I have for this move, is that he woke up. I don't think it happened over night, I don't think it happened 2 weeks ago. I Do think he's a smart business man who can feel that the masses of Redskins nation are frustrated with the franchise, and deservedly so. Snyder will always have a black mark on his tenure here for the past, but when criticisms have been thrown out, again deservedly so, i think giving Snyder recognition is fair when a good move has been made... hopefully like i said, it's a trend and not an outlier

I really do think that Dallas going 12-4 while the Redskins were again laughable had Snyder to the point he finally capitulated and agreed to hire a real GM.

Jones and Snyder are friendly but very competitive and 2014 was a pie in the face for Dan.

brusce Allen talked to scot about coming in after the draft last year but it wasnt the right timing according to them

At least I am glad Allen was loose at the end of season press conference for a legit reason.............the GM hire was coming shortly 😊

Your entire premise about Dan Snyder is completely wrong. His failings have nothing to do with marketing. Building a winning team is the best marketing he can do, and the team will never generate more revenue than it will when it is winning. There is nothing to be gained by fielding a crappy product. He's done plenty wrong and holds ultimate responsibility for the failings of the team since he's taken ownership, but desire to win is not one of his shortcomings. Why he found it so difficult to hire a real GM is anyone's guess. He's never tried to fill the GM shoes in the way Jones does, so it doesn't really make sense other than a stubborn commitment to make it work his way. I suspect this season finally overcame his pride.

Radical extreme? I'd say I'm in the solid median of the fan base.

All I have is Dan Snyder's history. Oh, we hear year after year that winning is so important to him. And, that might be, but we all know that $$$ is really what drives the Danny.

Excuse me for not getting excited with a new hire. Been there, done that.

When the organization starts winning on a regular basis, I won't have anything to complain about.

Dan Snyder has ruined my autumns for most of the last 17 years. He gets no benefit of the doubt from me.

And, I don't think it's beyond him to pay some 'fans' to post on fan websites...that can only be the reason he's sometimes vehemently defended for so little cause. I'm not saying that happens here, but I'm pretty sure I've seen it.

hahah so now Snyder is paying me? God knows i'm getting married in June, sure would like to see some of those dividends.

Sorry tr1, I couldn't resist. I expect fans to be "creatively" paranoid at times but...please.

If you're getting paid and holding out on me I'll be pissed!

dont worry serv, he's talking about me now...

Well..I guess I'm paid as well since I don't believe the hype of him being the evil dictator everyone buys in to.

Hey, calling it like I see it. Why anyone defends the guy is beyond me...unless, of course, he's paying them. Which happens all the time: Redskins.com, ES, etc.

It doesn't happen. And you need to give it a rest. You know, we try and be nice about it guys, but posting here is a privilege. Om has asked several times in several threads for people on both ends of the discussion to dial it back. I'd listen.

I didn't defend him. Just pointed out your constant harping that he doesn't care as long as the money is coming in is complete bunk. The dudes a huge fan. Maybe the only good thing he has going for himself. He wants to win as badly as any of us, IMO. That doesn't excuse his suckatude as an owner, but if your going to constantly rail on him, at least use an argument that has more sound logic to it then the marketing angle. It doesn't hold water. As for me, I'm a Redskins fan and I will try to find the bright spot whenever I can. It's just possible he might be getting it right finally. It could crash and burn once again. Only time will tell, but I'll spend that time hoping for the best, willing to suffer if my hope is misplaced. For the first time he's doing what the masses have clamored for. He hired an honest to goodness, well respected top echelon football guy who has a real vision and a history of working that vision. That is something to look forward too. The past doesn't determine the future.

Exactly. I had speculated in an earlier thread if this had been a year in coming and was in his mind when they got rid of Shanahan.

I am not accusing anyone here of anything.

then don't bring it here. Just like you cant hold McCloughan responsible for the last 20 years, you cant use that nonsensical mentality with the people of this board.. It's not a fair argument.

Where did I hold McClouglan responsible for the last 20 years? Seriously, show me the quote.

I never said you did say it. What i said what, there is a clear separation between the two facts. McCloughan is fresh blood, so is BGO. If you want to make a point that, in your opinion, other boards have apparently some how been paid to support Snyder, but that doesn't apply here, WHY SAY IT?

I'll say something nice about Snyder. He stuck by the name when all the pressure from the crazies and those clenching for power were pushing him around. That's worth noting & makes him a good 'Skins owner, imo. Now, that's about ALL I got, 'cause the rest is dismal. But I'll always remember him for that.
