Bruce, Scot and the Front Office.

I don't think they're competing - they'll adjust and suspect Swearinger will play free. Until shown otherwise, it's a non-issue.

Any more buzz on Mayock signing on with the team? Hell I kinda like the idea of MM running out drafts, would give us less hate from the media too imho.

while he is intriguing even if they were to say he had full control you know he would be nothing more than a glorified scout.

You're probably right. Tho after the Mcluvin incident of 2017 I figure any future GM will need clear and concise explanation of his role. MM or other would probably want the run of Bartertown before signing on.

Nothing against Williams but I don't think he has the experiance in scouting. At this point I would rather have Mayock. While he isn't experienced he does know about prospects and stuff so he intrigues me the most. I'm hoping this draft is similar to the last 3 hopefully with 3 strong starters out of this one.

Mayock did play in the NFL for the Giants in the early 1980's.

So, he has played the game and is not simply a media mouthpiece.

That said, I agree that Snyder and Allen are looking for a 'super scout'.

They are not looking for someone that wants to come in and make any independent decisions, even if it is something as 'minor' as cutting a backup DT or aging center.

In other words what could go wrong did go wrong.

The truth is Allen was brought here to help Shanahan be successful and all he has done since Day 1 is solidify his power with Snyder by signing onto moves like giving up a generation of picks for Griffin.

You know that wasn't a Shanahan move and certainly not for that price.

A 'real' GM would have said no.

But he endeared himself to Snyder by standing by these types of ideas that come not from winning NFL minds but someone trying to play fantasy football.

So, Allen has survived while Shanahan, McCloughan and others that have won something in their careers end up leaving.

What has Allen accomplished?

His high point was probably the 48-21 loss by the Raiders in the Super Bowl back when he was a special assistant to Al Davis.

Bulldog: What has Allen accomplished?

he set Univ Richmond's kicking records at punter. His name alone endears himself to Snyder as his father was a revered coach in Redskins history. He's a good administrator and is only filling in GM temporarily until new GM comes on board. His brother was governor so Bruce comes from good stock, can't be discounted. He doesn't bring a power trip to the office, he's more of a yes man that will get out of the way when the time comes. He's my alumni brother, we attended the univ together.

Horse Hockey! BT

It fits the narrative that Allen is Darth Vader because you want it to.

If Shanahan was forced to draft Griffin, or any ****ing body else...that's 100% Shanny's fault.

all I know is we lost one of our best Dlinemen when we are trying to rebuild the D, lost our top 2 receivers when we are a passing offence with a decent qb, and now I wonder wtf we are gonna do. do we build the defence, or build the offence back up?

We have solid WRs and TEs - and possibly even a great lineup of Doctson can overcome his Achilles issues and Pryor dies what he did last year (in Cleveland). The concern over WRs is overblown. And we didn't 'lose' anyone, we elected not to re-sign some aging vets.

Baker I'm less ambivalent about, but I think while a fan favorite he was not really an impact player - he only looked like one at times given the surrounding cast. I wonder if maybe the work ethic was not where the Skins wanted it? I could see either decision when it comes to him. I assume we'll draft some significant DL help.

Seein as how our defense was stinking horrible, I won't miss anyone who has left on defense. Go younger and give Manusky time to make something work. We be rebuilding.

On offense, with the departure of 88 and 11, we no longer have what made our offense go. That's a big deal, I see us as scrambling to make the offense go. That's a rebuild imho as well with Kirk having one foot out the door.

Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to next year with a whole new coaching staff, Gruden providing the glue to keep things upright. Will be very interesting and I can leave the bashing at the door given the circumstances.

I see it completely oppisite from this. Tight end is the most important part of our passing attack, and when Reed is on the field, this offense moves. With the return of Davis, there's not a huge drop off in production with Reed missing. It also opens the door for Cousins to build repour with a set of receivers that are just begining their careers, and could be here for many years to come. Continuity is something we hear all the time, and by cutting bait with two receivers winding down their careers, we could have that for the next 7 to 10 years with the young guys we already have on the roster. I don't see Kirk as having one foot out the door, being I don't buy into all the media BS that's floated around. The team knows we need to get a long term deal done, and we have a few months to iron it out. I have faith that they'll get it done this time around.

We already have Crowder, who can stretch the field, and I see Harris becomming or poession receiver to fill the void left by Garcon departing.Having young depth at receiver is going to make it work, and again, it could work for a long time. We have a question mark with Doctson, and while he may turn out to be what we expected, if he doesn't, we are in pretty solid shape as we sit right now without him.

The free agent moves the team has made have not been poor ones to date.

There is nothing to point to and say Allen and his front office have made any real mistakes.

I don't think McCloughan would have signed onto paying Garcon $16M for 2017 or giving Jackson a deal that has him extending out to his age 34 season.

Those departures were in the cards unless the Redskins were literally on the doorstep of a championship. Then bringing them back for one more roll of the dice would have made some sense.

But not off a team that was 8-7-1.

With that said, what worries me about Allen is not necessarily any one move he makes on his own but a potential move that Snyder wants him to make to create buzz or make a splash, a la the Griffin trade.

That's when the rubber hits the road here. The ability to resist Snyder and his tendencies to get bored with the process of drafting and signing players year by year in ho-hum fashion, etc.

Recall that when Shanahan was here we had the move for the 33 year old McNabb a couple of years before the Griffin fiasco.

If Cousins does leave after 2017 as a free agent, I wonder what moves this organization might make with no real controls on Snyder.

Snyder has had his new and improved Vinny Cerrato on the payroll since Vinny left and not many believed it. So does everybody still believe that Shanahan and McCloughan had "complete control" or did any reality leak out recently? I'm out of the country for the past 6 months and won't be back anytime soon.

While I believe that Snyder isn't dumb enough to do any more of those Haynesworth type deals, I won't be surprised when the next RG3, Portis, or Lavar type of mancrush shows up on the radar again and we just have to get that guy and overpay for him in draft picks, and/or cash no matter what.

The Redskins FO buffoonery is never going to end. Bruce Allen is not the guy Redskins fans should want building the roster and if Doug Williams is the guy then we might just end up as good as the 2006-2009 Buccaneers which would be just about what we've already seen out of the Redskins since Allen showed up over 7 years ago. He's already been around as long as Vinny.

Well, if I had to bet real money I'd say that that move was Josh Norman. I don't dislike the guy and I've learned to be ok with the move but I never did understand why we'd pay that much for a system corner, even one of the best in the league, when we were in such desperate need on the line.

Now that we don't really know how much influence McLovin really had here that's the move I'll wonder about.

I loved the Norman move. Top corner falls into our lap. I think you could argue we got him at a very reasonable price and gave up nothing to get him. Did we need DL help more - arguably yes. But I'm sure the thought process also involved that improving the defensive backfield would provide the DL more opportunities and improve performance there.

I don't know if acquiring Norman will ultimately prove to be a genius move or a bust, too early to say imho. But I can't see how anyone can argue it was a 'Vinny' move. We should get credit for swooping in and adding major talent at a position of need, and beating the other 31 teams who were surely right on our heels to the punch.

We can go back and forth about it some more but I think we did enough of that when the move was made. I thought it was questionable at the time and then when Breeland was repeatedly getting torched by Antonio Brown during Week One it continued to be a big head scratcher for me. And when our defense was terrible all season long despite the addition of such a Big Name I held out hope that it was all part of some bigger plan we just haven't seen yet.

But again, now that McLovin is out, and we're not sure he was ever really in, who knows? I'm fine waiting and watching the rest of the offseason and seeing where we are in August, but yeah, I could see Norman as ultimately turning out to be nothing more than a splashy move designed to excite the fans and distract them from the fact that our front seven was an obvious disaster. We'll see.
