Breaking - Capitals - Tom Wilson signs 7 year extension

Hopefully he can stay healthy

His injury issues have been one-offs. An ACL tear is not a typical hockey injury the way it is a standard of fare in the NFL.

What usually gets tall guys like Wilson at 6'4 in the league over time is back and hip issues.

As long as he stays away from disk operations and hip rotor type injuries he should be a productive player here for a number of years to come.

Hockey contracts are crazy. On one hand, it gives us as fans a chance to see our favorite players continue with the team. But these contracts can also be an albatross on the team. Look at the Backstrom contract. He has 2 more years left paying him $9.2 million a year (second highest on the team). Unless he finds the fountain of youth, that’s a lot of money for a guy whose best days are behind him. But then again, we get to see a fan favorite and Ovechkin’s number 1 assist man potentially be there when he breaks the record. It’s the same with Wilson. Love the guy. I hope he plays at a high level, but 7 years is a big commitment to pay for what soon be his decline.
