NEW LEXINGTON — The Cambridge High School boys soccer team took to the road Saturday morning and broke into the win column for the first time with a 5-0 victory over New Lexington with David Garcia exploding to bang home four goals to lead the Bobcats.
“The boys played a very good game for the third one in this week,” Cambridge coach JR Fox said. “They played outstanding, working together, and just playing really hard. I’ve been saying it was coming together and it finally started to show today. It all came together, they did an awesome job.”
Jaxon Fellows added a goal for Cambridge (1-3), and Quentin Stora pitched a shutout with five saves in goal for the Bobcats.
GIRLS TENNIS
Cambridge 4, East Liverpool 1: The Lady Bobcats' tennis team made the most of their long road trip to earn their first victory of the season over the Potters.
The Bobcats (1-6) recorded a clean sweep in singles play with Madi Peebles, Emrie Boreman and Julia Patterson each picking up victories. Peebles defeated Isabella Johnson 6-1, 6-0 at first singles, Boreman won 7-6 (0), 6-1 over Harper Bryce at second singles, and Julia Patterson collected a win over Oriah Coles at third singles.
In doubles action, Cambridge's Madison Caim and Rylee Wagstaff cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Bella Collin's and Arizona Olmstead. The Bobcats' lone loss came with Emily Epler and Nataleah Cosgrave battled but fell short 3-6, 5-7 to Julia Beatty and Gabrielle Johnson.
CROSS COUNTRY
Bobcats' cross country opens season at Claymont Early Bird: The Bobcats cross country team kicked off its season Saturday morning at the Claymont Early Bird Invitational with several runners picking up medals.
Brayden Biddle placed third in the High School Boys Big School Division race, running 16:57.01. Parker Neff, the only other Bobcat boy to run, ran a 21:56.30.
For the girls, Skye Craft and Marley Mathers both medaled with Craft placing 15th, running a 24:04.97, and Mathers placing 20th with a time of 25:08.81.
Other competitors for the Lady Bobcats were Joanna Brown (27:32.27), Summer Callahan (27:50.38), Rielynn Howell (29:21.88), Emerson Lanning (30:05.67) and Isabell Brown (41:14.58).

Barnesville 3, Cambridge 0: The visiting Shamrocks spoiled the Bobcats home opener with a 25-27, 25-20, 25-21 sweep inside Gene Ford Gymnasium on Thursday, August 27.
With the victory, Barnesville reaches the .500 mark at 2-2, with senior Londyn Gibson racking up a game-high 22 assists with 11 points, two aces, while junior Avery Bliss collected 12 kills, 11 points, three aces, three blocks. Sophomore Brielle VanHorn finished with 11 kills, three blocks, six points, five aces, with senior Brooklyn Miller adding 12 digs for the winners.
Senior Bailey Anderson led the Bobcats (1-2) with eight kills, three points and 10 digs. Mariska Gray shifted from libero to outside hitter and still managed 17 digs, four kills, and seven points with a pair of aces. Paisley Williams pitched in with five kills, three blocks, and three points while Kristen Ayres had five kills, six points and three blocks.
River 3, Shenandoah 0: The host Pilots handed the Zeps their first setback of the season with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 victory on Thursday, August 27.
Shenandoah (3-1) was paced by senior Molly Van Fleet with 12 kills, two points, two blocks, 16 digs, with sophomore Emma Dailey chipping in with nine points, an ace, eight kills, 12 assists and three digs. Liberty McKee contributed five points, 10 assists, two blocks, four digs and Shayla Holcomb finished with seven points and 13 digs.

Cambridge 5, East Liverpool 0: Sophomore Cami Moore took care of the offense, and Kylie Tilton led the defense as the Bobcats girls’ soccer earned the Buckeye 8 shutout victory over the host Potters on Thursday, August 27.
Moore banged home four goals while Aaliyah Garcia scored a goal and notched an assist for Cambridge, with Brylee King adding an assist. Tilton earned the shutout in goal for the Bobcats and received help from Taylor Warden and Chole Davis.
“The girls did everything they needed to do to bounce back and win tonight, especially the defense,” Cambridge coach Tim Fox said. “Taylor and Chloe held down the back and gave up very few scoring opportunities. And it was good to see Cami get back in form as she continues to recover from the knee injury."
Philo 5, John Glenn 1: Emily Stockdale scored all three of her goals after halftime for the Electrics in an MVL-Big School win against the Muskies.
Kylie Stockdale and Rylie Trout also scored for the winners, who had five players register assists. Paige Stockdale collected six saves.
Layken Cochran scored unassisted for John Glenn, while Brenna Milliner had six saves against 11 shots.

West Holmes 6, Cambridge 3: Despite slipping to 0-4 on the season, the Bobcats showed they are headed in the right direction despite a 6-3 loss to the host Knights on Thursday, August 27.

River View 138, John Glenn 165, West M 173: Gavin Gress fired a 5-under-par 31 to tie his own nine-hole school record for the Black Bears, who shot 6-under as a team in an MVL trimatch at Hickory Flats.
Clark Frischen and Colton Gress shot 35 and Lucas Massa 37 for River View. Will Hubal had a 39, Quentin Yanosik 31 and Hayden Hayes 42 for John Glenn.

Junior Blair Briggs was busy with eight kills, 18 assists, five aces and seven digs for the Muskies (1-0). Juniors Sophia Markel added 10 digs, two assists and Mya Stamm had six kills, nine digs, and sophomore Kamry Lahrmer handed out 10 assists with two aces and five digs.

“We are starting to come together,” Cambridge coach JR Fox said. “We played a lot better game, the field conditions killed us. We're playing on such a short field and real grass, and it really hurt our movement of the ball.”

Coshocton 3, Cambridge 1: The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break but couldn’t close out the game as they slipped to 1-2 on the season on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at McFarland Stadium.
Dahlia MenaRamos tallied the Bobcats' lone goal in the game while Kylie Tilton kept the Lady Cats close with an outstanding effort in goal.

“It wasn’t our sharpest performance, but the girls found a way to get the job done and secure the win,” Cambridge coach Lyndsey Hummell said. “Moving forward, we have to set the standard for our level of play early and maintain it consistently from start to finish.”
Leading the way for the Bobcats was senior Mariska Gray with 13 points and three aces, along with 27 digs. Senior Bailey Anderson added eight points with two aces, nine kills and 10 digs, and junior Kalynn Douglas had six points with an ace, 13 assists and eight digs.
