BGO Fantasy Football League

This weekend's matchups:

The Fat Alberts (Lanky Livingston) vs. Chester Shooters (Goaldeje)
Key matchups:
Kansas City D vs. Cleveland's O: Playing a hunch this week - Delhomme may not play, meaning Seneca Wallace would lead the Browns onto the field. Chiefs D looked hard hitting and aggressive on Monday night against a far superior team.

Ahmad Bradshaw vs. the Colts Run D: Even if Bradshaw only does half of what Foster did, CS should be pretty happy.

Yahoo Projected Score:
The Fat Alberts 98.65 - Chester Shooters 89.61

Lanky's "Expert" Prediction:
The Fat Alberts 118.89 - Chester Shooters 99.9
Phillip Rivers picks apart Jacksonville's defense, Greg Jennings makes the Bills look even worse than they already are, and Jamaal Charles shreds Cleveland's run D with his limited carries to propel the Fatties passed Chester Shooters easily.
------

Om Buds Man (Om) vs. dwarves of Moria (tomwvr)
Key matchups:
Calvin Johnson vs. the Eagles pass D: How many touchdowns will be stolen from Megatron this week? Will Shaun Hill be able to get him the ball, or will he spend most of his time on his back?

Shonn Greene vs. the Pats Run D: Ryan has said Shonn and LaDanian will each get about 15 carries this game. Greene needs a bounce-back type performance in a big way, or he could see his touches be reduced even more next week.

Yahoo Projected Score:
Om Buds Man 104.71 - dwarves of Moria 96.96

Lanky's "Expert" Prediction:
Om Buds Man 101.2 - dwarves of Moria 110.16
Vernon Davis continues TEs success against the Saints, Peyton Manning wins the Manning Bowl with his arm, and Colston goes off against the 49ers and the the dwarves pull off the upset.
------

Shanahanigans (Misterpinstripe) vs. LSF (Loyal Skins Fan)
Key matchups:
Tom Brady vs. the Jets pass D: How badly will the loss of Kris Jenkins hurt the Jets defense? They still have Revis, and that still means only half the field will be available to Tom.

Clinton Portis vs. the Texans Run D: Portis was stymied against the Cowgirls, but will he have better luck against the "other" Texas team? Shanahan's run game can't be held down for long - look for CP to put up yardage this week. Then the question becomes how many goal line TDs will Johnson & Williams vulture from Portis?

Yahoo Projected Score:
Shanahanigans 102.42 - LSF 87.97

Lanky's "Expert" Prediction:
Shanahanigan 111.15 - LSF 119.33
Drew Brees shows his MVP form and drops bombs on the 49ers pass D, Clinton Portis and the Redskins running game finally comes to life against the Texans, and Donald Driver eats up one-on-one coverage all afternoon to carry LSF over the Shanahanigans.
------

newb-annihilation (Boone) vs. WheresRickySanders? (honorary_hog)
Key matchups:
Aaron Rodgers vs. the Bills pass D: The biggest question of this weekend is which number will be greater: Aaron Rodgers passing touchdowns or number of times Ralph Wilson wets himself. Rodgers should have a field day, and put up big big big numbers against the Bills.

Percy Harvin vs. the Miami Pass D: Will Harvin's migraines finally be put behind him this week? If so, he should be an integral part of the offense, as Miami's D will be keyed on stopping Peterson and Shiancoe.

Yahoo Projected Score:
newb-annihilation 96.6 - WheresRickySanders? 92.5

Lanky's "Expert" Prediction:
newb-annihilation 100.1 - WheresRickySanders? 87.5
Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Rodgers. In an otherwise low-scoring affair, Rodgers drops 40+ fantasy points on the unsuspecting Bills in a Packer blowout.
------

Absurd Philosophy (Sisyphus) vs. beamish
Key matchups:
Ryan Mathews vs. the Jaguars run D: Mathews laid a big fat goose egg against the Chiefs, after much hype and expectation. This commentator never understands drafting rookies so high, and this is why - they are unknown. Will Mathews live up to the hype against the Jags? Or get shut down again?

Steve Smith (CAR) vs. the Bucs pass D: Starting at Flex, Smith will need to put some points on the board for beamish to have a shot. Neither team looks to be especially good this year, and Smith is on a team that likes to run first, run second, and think about passing third. We'll see how this affects his output.

Yahoo Projected Score:
Absurd Philosophy 103.76 - beamish 95.62

Lanky's "Expert" Prediction:
Absurd Philosophy 91.55 - beamish 104.88
Maurice Jones-Drew has a big game against the Chargers, Eli plays a successful game of keep up with big brother Peyton, and Steve Smith shows off some skills and beamish upsets Absurd Philosophy.

In other news, I can control beamish's team from my post as commissioner. He will tell me what he wants to do, and I'll do my best to accommodate him.

Ek-squeeze me, jrock?

I need 3.5 points from Frank Freakin Gore this week for the "W."

Apology accepted. ;)

(Oh, and thanks to Darren McFadden, my LAST pick, for his 145-yard, 16.5 point "goose egg" performance.)

Expert is in quotation marks for a reason, J. ;)

And McFadden has been a fantasy bust for awhile now...pleasant surprise for you that he's playing well this season.

Hog - the ONLY reason you'll likely prevail is the super-human display of defense put on by the Steelers. Unfortunate, as I had a pretty good day yesterday, but it likely won't be enough.

In the same vein as Boone, Lanky, the only reason you will win this week is because my team sucks. Apparently Michael Turner and Steven Jackson both like to put up numbers early in the game, then disappear. So there.

Aaron Rodgers nearly beat me by his danged self. And you're right, the Steelers D bailed me out. Well, them and Graham Gano; even without the 52-yarder. ;)

Tough battle and congrats. Back to the drawing board for the newb.

Tough battle and congrats. Back to the drawing board for the newb.

Great game, brother.

And honestly, I think I just got you on the right week. I'm pretty thin, especially with Ryan Grant going on IR. You've got a nice roster, and will make life difficult for the grizzled old fantasy vets.

Well, looks like I went 2-3 on my predictions...maybe I should give that portion of my commish-hood up. Ha!

(To be fair, it would have been 3-2 if the Steelers DST hadn't gone bananas on the Titans)

Y'know, that, and Frank Gore getting me almost 10x as many points as I needed. :)

High score of the week: WheresRickySanders? 127.66

Low score of the week: Chester Shooters 73.20

Upsets: 2

The Fat Alberts 109.56 vs. Chester Shooters 73.20
(Lanky Livingston vs. Goaldeje)

Phillip Rivers threw for 334 yards and 3TDs, and Andre Johnson (unfortunately) caught 12 balls for 158 yards and a score to notch a decisive win for the Fatties over Chester Shooters. Brett Favres' downright disgusting performance against the Dolphins, Mike Turner getting injured and a no-show from Gresham spelled "game-over" for Goaldeje.

Next: The Fat Alberts vs. Shanahanigans, Chester Shooters vs. Om Buds Man

Om Buds Man 106.48 vs. dwarves of Moria 90.60
(Om vs. tomwvr)

I felt bad about winning on the back of Andre Johnson, until I saw that Om got over one and a half times the points from Schaub. Schaub's other-worldly 497 yards and 3TDs accounted for nearly half of doM's points, and was the clear difference. Solid performances from all 3 WRs on Om's roster in addition to Schaub going bananas were enough to overcome Chris Johnson's disappointing day. Om Buds Man is gonna be near impossible to beat if his squad ever starts firing on all cylinders at once.

Next: Om Buds Man vs. Chester Shooters, dwarves of Moria vs. beamish

Shanahanigans 93.62 vs. LSF 99.16
(Misterpinstripe vs. Loyal Skins Fan)

The Shanahanigans had big days from Dallas Clark and Adrian Peterson, but they were not enough as LSF's entire roster had solid games. Drew Brees led the way with 23 points (many thanks to Drew for not throwing to Colston in the red zone, as it helped me win my other leagues) and LSF edged the Shanahanigans.

Next: Shanahanigans vs. The Fat Alberts, LSF vs. newb-annihilation

newb-annihilation 101.60 vs. WheresRickySanders? 127.66
(Boone vs. honorary_hog)

In the closest contest of the weekend, hog held a slight lead over Boone going into the MNF matchup. Frank Gore proceeded to dominate the Saints defense, and hog went on to blowout the newb-annihilators. Darren McFadden also produced for a second straight week, maybe the light has finally come on? Pittsburgh's defense went turnover crazy against the Titans, nabbing 8 total and putting up 28 points. Gates', Jackson's and Rodgers' big days were not enough for na.

Next: newb-annihilation vs. LSF, WheresRickySanders? vs. Absurd Philosophy

Absurd Philosophy 120.58 vs. beamish 96.64
(Sisyphus vs. beamish)

Surprising nearly everyone (except maybe Sisyphus, who drafted him), Jahvid Best went buck wild all over the Eagles defense for 43 points. Combined with Cutler's continuing rebound season, and another solid day from Roddy White, AP notches the 'W' against beamish. LeSean McCoy returned the favor for the Eagles against the Lions, but it was not enough as the rest of his roster struggled. His best shot was Eli in the Manning bowl, but little bro showed he is still inferior to his future-HOF brother.

Next: Absurd Philosophy vs. WheresRickySanders?, beamish vs. dwarves of Moria

*As of now, beamish has not responded to PMs or this thread, so I don't know what his deal is. I will just put in the players with the highest Yahoo projections from week to week, until beamish responds or someone else volunteers to run his team.

Appreciated, hog! I can only hope to be as entertaining as y'all, but I'll give it my best shot!

You're doing an awesome job with these :)

This weekend's matchups:

The Fat Alberts (Lanky Livingston) vs. Shanahanigans (Misterpinstripe)
Key matchups:
Greg Jennings vs. the Bears' Pass D: The Bears defense looks fresh and rejuvenated...against the run. The Bears' pass-D is ranked 27th in the league. With Ryan Grant on IR, and hence no big-name to run the ball, the Packers will look to Aaron Rodgers to generate offense. Jennings is one of Rodgers' favorite targets, but hasn't been finding the end zone as regularly as the Alberts would like. Will the trend reverse this weekend? The contest may depend on it.

Tom Brady vs. the Bills' Pass D: So let's recap: Tom "Justin" Biberady has millions of dollars in the bank, will make millions more in his lifetime, is married to one of the hottest women on the planet, and is facing the Bills this weekend. That asshole. The Bills simply don't have the personnel to match-up with both Randy Moss and Wes Welker, and the Pats should move the ball easily. And after an embarrassing loss to a division rival last week, Brady should be looking to rebound with a dominating performance.

Yahoo Projected Score:
The Fat Alberts 103.19 - Shanahanigans 102.63

Lanky's "Expert" Prediction:
Shanahanigans over The Fat Alberts

In the highest scoring affair of the week, Greg Jennings and Matt Forte make it exciting at the end but fall just short Monday night, and the Shanahanigans hold on to win. Teen heartthrob Tom Brady drops 40 and AP shreds the Lions to lead the way.
------

Om Buds Man (Om) vs. Chester Shooters (Goaldeje)
Key matchups:
Chris Johnson vs. the Giants' run D: Chris Johnson had one of if not the worst performance of his career against the Steelers, and will be amped to get back to his 'A' game. At 24th in the league, the Giants have not done much to slow down the run. CJ should have a big day against the GMen on the ground.

Miles Austin vs. the Texans' pass D: With Favre playing like gavreage, and tough matchups for the rest of his squad, the Shooters only hope may lie in Austin against the Texans. The good news: the Cowboys can't run the ball this year, so Miles will get a lot of looks Sunday. The better news: The Texans can't stop the pass, as evidenced by 89 year-old Joey Galloway *almost* going for over a 100 and a score against them. The best news: The Cowboys are in a must-win scenario this weekend.

Yahoo Projected Score:
Om Buds Man 107.97 - Chester Shooters 100.28

Lanky's "Expert" Prediction:
Om Buds Man over Chester Shooters
Despite Austin's career day against the Texans, OBD tops the Shooters on the back of a strong performance from Chris Johnson. Witten finds the endzone for the first time this season, Megatron scores on the Vikes, and the Packers take a couple Cutler INTs to the house to help Om win.
------

newb-annihilation (Boone) vs. LSF (Loyal Skins Fan)
Key matchups:
Santana Moss vs. the Rams' pass D: The ground game finally gets going for the Skins this weekend, opening up the passing game even more, and keeping the Rams D honest. Through 2 games, Moss has been used mostly as a possession receiver - will this trend continue, or will Moss be sent deep? McNabb to Moss seem to have some nice chemistry - the newbs success this week may depend on whether or not they take the next step in their relationship (no Romo).

Clinton Portis vs. the Rams run D: CP found pay dirt twice against the Texans from close-range, but couldn't do much else. Portis has some nice history against the Rams, averaging 94.5 yards and a score per game. Look for CP to come close to that yardage, and add a couple TDs.

Yahoo Projected Score:
newb-annihilation 94.61 - LSF 93.31

Lanky's "Expert" Prediction:
newb-annihilation over LSF
Aaron Rodgers has his best game yet vs. the Bears, Gates continues his strong start, and Baltimore's D shuts out the Browns to lead the annihilators past LSF.
------

Absurd Philosophy (Sisyphus) vs. WheresRickySanders? (honorary_hog)
Key matchups:
Ray Rice vs. the Browns' D: Ray Ray Jr. has had a very slow start to the season thus far, and now faces the Cleveland Browns. If there was ever a week to get back in the groove, its playing the Browns and their 25th ranked rush D. The Browns are not terrible against the pass, meaning Rice should get a lot of looks on screens and dump offs, with the Ravens' other receivers covered downfield.

Darren McFadden vs. the Cards' run D: This is the week McFadden goes back to being a bust, right? Right? McFadden had a ton of talent at Arkansas, and for some reason that talent has not translated into the NFL....yet. He's on the Raiders, for one thing, which doesn't help ANYONE'S career. Could this be the year McFadden's skill set finally shows up in Oakland with him?

Yahoo Projected Score:
Absurd Philosophy 94.2 - WheresRickySanders? 99.58

Lanky's "Expert" Prediction:
WheresRickySanders? over Absurd Philosophy
With tough matchups across the board, and Ryan Mathews not expected to play against Seattle, AP gets blown out by the hog. We all eventually forgive him for riding Romo's coattails to victory, as he puts up a ton of yards and TDs through the air. Gore runs all over the Chiefs and delays his knee injury one more game, Ronnie Brown has his way with the Jets in the wildcat, and McFadden continues his resurgence against the Cardinals (did that read as weird to everyone as it was for me to type it?).
------

beamish vs. dwarves of Moria
Key matchups:
Maurice Jones-Drew vs. the Eagles' run D: MJD's slow start has many a fantasy owner cursing life, football and the Jaguar's offense. After Jahvid Best made a travishamockery of the Eagles' run D, MJD should do similar things. He won't put up 43 points, but just how many he does will be key for beams.

Larry Fitzgerald vs. the Raiders' pass D: Larry has had a slow start, mostly due to the fact that his future Hall of Fame QB has been replaced by future car salesman Derek Anderson. Oh, that and they haven't really had a running game. Enter Beanie Wells, who is slated to start this weekend. Larry will still draw the pretty damn good Nnamdi Alotsofconsonants, but much like Andre Johnson in Houston, there aren't many guys who can cover Fitz.

Yahoo Projected Score:
beamish 96.04 - dwarves of Moria 86.12

Lanky's "Expert" Prediction:
beamish over dwarves of Moria
beamish crawls out of the ranks of winless teams with a convincing victory over the dwarves this week. MJD finally shows why he was the 3rd overall pick in most formats, Randy Moss hauls in a lot of catches against the Bills, and LeSean McCoy has another big day against Jacksonville. Now if we could only get someone to manage this team...
