While I do not believe Manning will come to DC, I believe the QB has been attempted to be addressed and in some cases flat out missed.
I believe Shanahan was interested in Locker last year and he was gone at the #10 pick. I also believe he was likely looking at Ponder at #16 and he was gone so things played out the way they did. He brought in McNabb the previous season.
Gibbs drafted Campbell after he brought in his veteran with the hopes of developing JC the way he had done with Schroeder and Rypien. Had the game not changed so much and Campbell given the 3 or 4 years to develop, he might have been better. Maybe not.
My point is we have tried to address the QB situation and have failed, miserably. It just seems that after that Heath Shuler debacle, this organization has been a little hesitant to pull the trigger on a QB early.
It looks like that is about to change this year, but I don't want us to draft a QB early just because our draft position. And to be honest, we really aren't in a position to give up potentially 5 starters over the next 5-7 years on one QB who may/may not be the next great. I believe we would be better suited for a trade next year when we are a much better team all around. Sure it might cost more, but we would be better all around to afford us that cost. We should address the QB in free agency and a later round QB like Weeden. I believe we will lose out on Tannehill because he is going higher than he probably should.
I had been swaying toward a trade up for RG3 but I think we need to solidify our team more than losing out on picks for RG3. I also know that if there is not marked improvement this upcoming season, Shanahan could be in serious trouble. So this is a very difficult time to be the Head Coach/GM in DC. I know this is a decision I would not feel comfortable making.
