Curtis Samuel has been fine on the short stuff, operating in a Cordarelle Patterson type role as a change of pace receiver and runner but one thing he has not done is prove he is a guy the team can count on down the field as an outside or slot player.
For the money he is making we need that.
The other factor on offense is this team has no tight end.
So, the wide receivers are at times running tight end routes and that accounts in part for players having 9.0 and 10.0 yard per catch averages.
I remember one game where our tight end was essentially Jamison Crowder. He had 7 catches and they were mostly the type of throws you see to 'possession' tight ends, ie those guys that are not a George Kittle or Travis Kelce type.
