not afraid, but how much is walking the streets that is actually better than what we currently have? Yes what we have is bad, but who is out there to sign to upgrade? The chances of 5 starting caliber O-lineman being available at a rate we can afford, while also fielding a 90 man roster entering camp just may be a lot to ask.

Not saying I dont WANT upgrades at every position possible... just wonder if it's possible in 1 offseason, or if it's much more likely to see our O-line take better shape in 2025 with 2 separate offseasons.

I am driveby posting today so forgive me if I miss some nuance. Once we get to the offseason, we have plenty of money to grab Free Agents (and there should be some great OL talent available) and then of course we have a lot of draft picks. I don't think revamping the OL in a single season is impossible. But you are right ST that won't happen in a single season, at least not to the degree a lot of us fantasize about... We need some dominant guys on that OL - if that takes 3 seasons, then let's get started in 2024.

I keep thinking about something Rich Eisen said at the trade deadline last week about offensive line help. He had a semi-regular guest in the studio with him who is a Cowboys fan and the guy was lamenting Jerry's statement that the Cowboys were happy with their roster and wouldn't be bringing in any help at the trade deadline. Rich asked him what he thought the Cowboys should be trading for and without hesitation the guy said offensive line help.

Rich laughed long and hard. When he caught is breath he looked at his guest and said (paraphrase), "you and 31 other teams. Everyone wants offensive line help right now and no one is trading away anyone worth having."

List of 2024 Free Agent Offensive Linemen - most of the guys on this list are on the wrong side of 30 and I have to think most of the ones who are on the right side are either depth guys or will get re-signed.

Bob - look again. There are like 82 OL-men on that list under 30, and 28 over 30.
There is no doubt, we could do a major overhaul of the entire line in 2024 with the draft picks we have and via free agency. There's just no way of knowing what a new GM will want to do and what their assessments will be. I imagine Chen will take a good look at that position group in particular and anytime you are threatening to break one of the longest held negative league records (sacks), I would think that warrants dramatic focus. But what do I know.

You are right John, I exaggerated when I said "most". I shouldn't have. Apologies.

However, there are also 26 guys out of that under-30 crowd who are RFAs or ERFAs, making them harder to acquire.

And I stand by my statement that teams will be resigning the desirable ones which will leave more players like Gates and Wylie for us to pick through.
