For those unfamiliar, 'Opposing Delicacies' is a special edition of the BGO Blind Pig podcast where I visit road opponent cities and explore the culinary dishes they are most famous for. We've prepared and sampled Denver favorite Rocky Mountain Oysters and most recently Baltimore Coddies. We do not shy away from adventurous dishes.

Next week, the Commanders face a short turn around and head north to the city of Brotherly Shove - Philadelphia. Since man cannot live on bread and wooder alone, for this edition we will focus on two Philly classics, Scrapple and Tomato Pie.

I know what you're thinking, 'Da **** youse talkin about ****head? Whatta bout Philly Cheesesteak?'

It's simple. Philly fans would WANT me to talk about Philly Cheesesteak. So eff what Philly fans want. I know they'd respect that attitude.

Besides, when you taste my Scrapple and Tomato Pie, you're gonna say 'Shit that jawn is ****ing good!'

I have always loved scrapple. When asked what it is by people unfamiliar, I tell them they make anything out of a pig possible and then sweep the floor. THAT is scrapple. 😉
 
I lived on a farm in France. They used every bit of an animal and it was all delicious
 
I always thought it was a southern thing. Primarily because the worst parts of God's favorite creatures and that just seemed southern... :ROFLMAO:

My dad is from South Jersey and used to eat it all the time when I was a kid. He explained (when I was 40) that it was a Pennsylvania Dutch thing and somehow trickled down to South Jersey.
 
I grew up in SoMd and it was available everywhere. Particularly in mom & pop breakfast/lunch places. Excellent in breakfast sandwiches.

It’s primarily a Pennsylvania Dutch thing. In the south I think it’s more a function of all the pig farming. ‘Neeses’ is a big thing in NC.
 
I love scrapple, thick, thin, pan fried, deep fried, doesn't matter. It's all good.
Tomato pie is like crack to me. I can't stop eating it.
A buddy of ours lives in Philly and brings a couple to our tailgates. He gets them from an old bakery, (the name escapes me), that's famous for them.

Mom is from Buckroe.
We lived in Norfolk, then Va Beach when I was a kid and I never saw, or heard of scrapple.
I guess Mom and Dad didn't care for it.
That was back in the 60's & early 70's. We kids preferred Cap'n Crunch!

About once a year or so I have a yen for a box of cereal. It’s always, always, the Cap’n. 🤣
 
Sounds like a board game to me.
Seriously I've never heard of scrapple, but pig parts and tomatoes probably isn't going to get me running for the dinner table.

I used to make homemade chicken fingers when we played the eagles. I would use green food coloring for the breading. It didn’t look appetizing, but they tasted good.
 
Neither are my favorite but good job
