The Pigs express a wide range of opinions on the Whitt Jr. and Kingsbury exits, and discuss what it means for Dan Quinn and the state of the franchise...

Definitely not surprising or shocking in regards to Whitt, Kliff I'm still trying to process how that went down, if it truly is "Hey we know there's a 75% chance you're outta here to take an HC job" I'm ok with what occurred as there's lots of work to do. If it was some sort of internal struggle (I find it hard to fathom to be honest) where Kliff was some negative cancer etc. I'd be ok as well, I don't see it. As far as OC's go I liked Kliff, he worked "with" and I can't remember as John stated but it was quite the analogy. McDaniel just got dismissed from Miami, I'd be on the phone now. As far as D coordinators go, I have no clue, I am sorta with Bob that I think Quinn has the D skill set and track record. Go f'ing run it then, but if he can't handle both duties ya gotta turn it over, plus he'll always have that statement of not deferring enough that follows him around if he did just take over the D. It's interesting that it used to be moons ago it seems that the HC was either the O or D coordinator but now that's just too much work for one man.

Games I'm looking forward to this weekend, San Fran at Philly, I think Philly gets roasted in their own house and resting and not going for the higher seed bites them in the ass. Pitt vs Texans, only because it might be the last time we see Rodgers play and Tomlin in Pittsburgh (I favor Pittsburgh winning though with the expected weather). Jags are an interesting team and it's in Florida but I also think that helps Buffalo. SD v NE, who knows, I have no prediction here other than I want NE to lose.

If the Panthers upset the Rams McVay will be on the hot seat next year, I don't see it happening but if the Panthers pull it off, guillotine will get sharper in LA. Bears vs Packers, I just want Chicago to lose, I loathe their fans almost as much as Philly's but not as much as NE's, plus a good friend of mine is a Bears fan and he is betting against them this weekend, he has no faith when it matters that team will actually be able to play when there's real pressure and expectations (dissimilar from us last year as all our games were on the road in the playoffs), could this be the last playoffs we see as the Bears actually in Chicago, intriguing I suppose. As usual, great job gents, nothing like the morning ride in traffic with the pigs in the background.

Paragraphs are helpful for people who read message boards!

It does look odd on the app, on my desktop its not so bad lol. I'll keep that in mind.
Thanks for understanding man. I was not trying to be a dick. I'm always on my phone for the site and I don't use the app or my laptop.

I really want to read what people have to say, but when I see this long length of text, I just kind of skim over it

Boone. I really appreciated your concern about Quinn and the whole process. You were later to the realisation of this than some of us, but you are probably more loyal than those same people, to a fault, including myself.

However you felt about Kliff, however different than myself, your concern was heartfelt and easy to appreciate.

Something we didn't really talk about on the pod... but I have to wonder if AP didn't have as much or more to do with Kingsbury's departure as Quinn did. I know AP says the coaching staff are Dan's realm, but we all know - bosses have a way of letting you know their feelings. They may not tell you what to do, but you almost always know what they want you to do.

I could understand that thought Tarhizzle except if Quinn says, no fire me, he's getting paid. I am not saying money is everything but he's done well for himself and he just strikes me as a guy at this point "might be the last hurrah, fuck it, gotta go out how I want."

If that is the case AP desired this in the background, the whole team now knows Quinn is weak on principle. No confidence will ensue by the players.

If in the off-season we cannot get deals done for Tunsil (I acknowledge we have him next year and possible franchise tag) but I dont see another TW fiasco. Then if we can't convince some impact FA's in the off-season as well, after players wanted to be here and not on huge deals. At that point I'll think you are correct.

I again just cant see Quinn being forced to let Kliff go, then again I'm just a Redskins fan with zero inside knowledge and love typing, hopefully this presents better for the app for others, being serious.

The Tunsil thing worries me. Tunsil strikes me as a guy who not only wants to get a huge payday, but I don't get the sense he will care all that much who it is who pays him that massive payday. Adam Peters on the other hand has already shown he is not inclined to set the league standard for compensation. We've had loads of money to spend and he has opted NOT to spend it. Whether Harris has had anything to do with that or not, who knows? But we almost lost Terry McLaurin because AP wasn't going to 'lose' or budge on his position. If they take that mindset with Tunsil, we won't win a bidding war for him.

I think this could be a very big deal and one that will make the McLaurin 'distraction' look tame by comparison. We gave up a lot to get Tunsil (because it was worth it) but if we do not get a new deal done with him it will be an outright disaster and I am not particularly confident that AP is going to be willing to pay the man what he demands.

I don't think Peters makes the trade for Tunsil and gives up a number of high picks for us to low ball him and having him request a trade to another team that will pay him top 3 money.

Let's be realistic though. Trent Williams even after going to 2 Super Bowls with the 49ers still held out before last year to get more guaranteed money on what was already a large contract at then age 35.

This is the NFL in 2026.

If you don't want to play that game then it appears the only option is to trade Tunsil, recoup draft picks and then move Conerly Jr. back to left tackle and start all over again.

But I don't see that as a career move that will sit well for Peters with the ownership group.

If the goal here was to save money those high draft picks could have netted us a LT or RT in the draft that will be on a rookie deal for 3 more years.

Then you again have the case of Conerly Jr. who was a left tackle but moved to the right side due to the presence of Tunsil.

I overheard on the radio an interview with Sam Cosmi the other day, and he said Conerly was literally moving in with Tunsil over the off season and they will be training together. I don't think Tunsil does that if he is anticipating a contract dispute. I think it's likely they back up the brinks truck for Tunsil, because that was always the plan. Get the best available option to protect your young, franchise QB, and the cost associated with it.

With a team largely out of contention early you would think we might have been able to zip up an extended deal for Tunsil and move on to other roster issues.

Yeah i dont like this delay in negotiations. Other teams sign extensions during the season, I wish we would do it more.

I'm with Bulldog on this one. I don't think you make the trade for Tunsil if you aren't willing to pay him serious money. He has a history of wanting top dollar so there shouldn't be any confusion over who he (or his agent) really is.

Having said that, something struck me when reading Boone's post. Just because we have a certain amount of room under the cap doesn't mean we have budgetted to spend that much.

This is an ownership group that is the largest in the NFL and only 3 years on from spending a record amount of money for a pro-sports franchise.

It is also an ownership group that has now committed to absorbing the cost of building a state-of-the-art stadium over the next 4 years.

I'm not saying they are cheap. What I am saying is that there are a fair number of competing buisiness interests within the club and even the printing press that is the NFL can struggle to keep up sometimes.

I think we could learn a bit about this ownership and their wallet this year.

The first two years, Washington spent on free agency carefully. Lots of contracts but no big signings. Our biggest, Kinlaw, was actually pretty moderate by NFL standards and as we found out later Allen got more from the Vikings than we gave to Kinlaw. You'd think this year would be the one where they know what they have and what they need and so might start spending bigger. That said, with two new coordinators... maybe they don't know what they want? Are we going for a speed team? A finesse team? A power team? You'd imagine that Blough will keep things going to a degree, but we don't know who the DC or what is scheme will be at all... so, that may preclude big spending on that side of the ball until the DC gets to see what he really has here and how it all fits together.

Guys, I don't think the issue is Harris or Peters being willing to pay, or even over-pay. This is the NFL. You can never predict what players are going to do. Tunsil is in no way required to accept ANY deal Washington puts on the table. We don't even know if he LIKES playing in Washington. He very well could decide to head somewhere else depending on a number of things.

It's not done till it's done and if they don't get it done, having given up a lot (deservedly so) to get him, that will be an epic fail.
