Still listen to the Pod and enjoy the banter.
Listening to Derek talk about all the Broncos fans that were in attendance and how disappointed he is with the fan base was amusing to me.
1: The Dan Snyder Era did decades worth of damage to this fan base and ran a lot of longtime fans off. Add the name change and some will probably never come back.
2: It's going to take more than one outlier/fluke season to bring fans back on a consistent basis.Call them front runners all you want but what's left of this fan base is worn out from all the failure and mediocrity.
Right now this franchise is Lucy (and has been for years) and a lot of fans are Charlie Brown. Making the NFC Title game last year gave some fans hope only to see "Lucy" pull the football away and now they're jockeying for a top five draft pick again.
Right back to Square One is where this club seems to be. Peters has to nail this upcoming offseason or this franchise will see another exodus of fans (if that's even possible) in 2026.
Great job on the Pod and look forward to the next one.
You're not wrong.. there are a hundred reasons why fans wouldn't go to that game, I mentioned it in the podcast.... my point was that the truth is the fanbase isn't what it once was and the people claiming that we're one of the best, and most passionate fanbases are misinformed. I'm just calling a spade, a spade.
That absolutely is a generalization, and there clearly are groups that still have the same level of passion, but it's different. This board houses a large number of passionate fans, but the fanbase as a whole is not one of pride. The minor blips of success on the radar bring a lot of fans claiming to be dedicated out in force, only for them to not fall back into hiding, but to seemingly boycott and criticize at the first drop in production.
This season hasn't been great, but this team still has a lot to be happy about. Losing doesn't always warrant front stage changes. There are people calling for APs job. Dan Quinn's Job. I even heard someone say that we have a better chance of sustained success with Mariota at QB. Someone else floated us trading away Jayden to get as many picks as possible to 'reset again.'
A lot of this has to do with social media, and frankly uninformed fans that are unfortunately the squeakiest wheel, but there is a very clear distinction between talking about the team, and rooting for it. It used to be that we held these players / coaches to a level of respect and admiration. We rooted hard for them because we wanted our team to be successful. We wanted THEM to succeed. We weren't waiting for them to fail to simply move on. A guy makes a mistake now, and he's 'trash' or a 'wasted pick.' It's like development is no longer a thing. In years past, a 3-9 team was still followed and loved, especially the way the current team is constructed, simply because we wanted to see guys like Conerly, Magee, Sainristil, and others develop. It didn't matter what the record was. There are a number of other franchises that feel that way.
