BGO Blind Pig - Moral Victory or tryptophan hangover?

I felt the Denver game was the most complete game we've played in awhile, finally 4 quarters of football. We've seen some flashes on the team play well for a half against the Chiefs (albeit they aren't who they were in the past) etc. Hell to be honest this might be the first game where we played all 4 quarters with intensity, grit and some moxy. We've discussed injuries derailing the season, lack of chemistry due to not having off season work etc. now it's time to build some cohesion for the guys who'll be here next year. Also, I haven't thought about Kliff bailing for a HC job, I don't see him going back to college (then again the salaries are getting beyond stupid) and I don't see an NFL gig opening up that would make any sense for him, what jobs will be open that would be appealing other than for ego. Finally a 1 o clock start, oh how I missed these, I'm with Bob on this one 27-14 Washington and how many in Minny are kicking themselves for betting on JJ??

Still listen to the Pod and enjoy the banter.

Listening to Derek talk about all the Broncos fans that were in attendance and how disappointed he is with the fan base was amusing to me.

1: The Dan Snyder Era did decades worth of damage to this fan base and ran a lot of longtime fans off. Add the name change and some will probably never come back.

2: It's going to take more than one outlier/fluke season to bring fans back on a consistent basis.Call them front runners all you want but what's left of this fan base is worn out from all the failure and mediocrity.

Right now this franchise is Lucy (and has been for years) and a lot of fans are Charlie Brown. Making the NFC Title game last year gave some fans hope only to see "Lucy" pull the football away and now they're jockeying for a top five draft pick again.

Right back to Square One is where this club seems to be. Peters has to nail this upcoming offseason or this franchise will see another exodus of fans (if that's even possible) in 2026.

Great job on the Pod and look forward to the next one.

Fans of nearly every team are front-runners nowadays.

You're not wrong.. there are a hundred reasons why fans wouldn't go to that game, I mentioned it in the podcast.... my point was that the truth is the fanbase isn't what it once was and the people claiming that we're one of the best, and most passionate fanbases are misinformed. I'm just calling a spade, a spade.

That absolutely is a generalization, and there clearly are groups that still have the same level of passion, but it's different. This board houses a large number of passionate fans, but the fanbase as a whole is not one of pride. The minor blips of success on the radar bring a lot of fans claiming to be dedicated out in force, only for them to not fall back into hiding, but to seemingly boycott and criticize at the first drop in production.

This season hasn't been great, but this team still has a lot to be happy about. Losing doesn't always warrant front stage changes. There are people calling for APs job. Dan Quinn's Job. I even heard someone say that we have a better chance of sustained success with Mariota at QB. Someone else floated us trading away Jayden to get as many picks as possible to 'reset again.'

A lot of this has to do with social media, and frankly uninformed fans that are unfortunately the squeakiest wheel, but there is a very clear distinction between talking about the team, and rooting for it. It used to be that we held these players / coaches to a level of respect and admiration. We rooted hard for them because we wanted our team to be successful. We wanted THEM to succeed. We weren't waiting for them to fail to simply move on. A guy makes a mistake now, and he's 'trash' or a 'wasted pick.' It's like development is no longer a thing. In years past, a 3-9 team was still followed and loved, especially the way the current team is constructed, simply because we wanted to see guys like Conerly, Magee, Sainristil, and others develop. It didn't matter what the record was. There are a number of other franchises that feel that way.

This board is guilty of all of the exact same things that the ‘fanbase’ in general is accused of. Interest is down and criticism is up here when the team struggles, as well. Sports are entertainment, full stop. When people are not entertained (ie- successful) by the product they bitch and spend their time and money elsewhere.

You wont hear an argument from me.

I know on the pod i implied (and even said) I was disappointed multiple times, but as time goes on its not really a disappointment with any people, and more a disappointment of seeing the reality.

I think you guys all have it mostly right. Let's be honest, moving away from our Washington-centric mindset, going to an NFL game is a pain in the ass. It's expensive as hell, it involves sitting in traffic sometimes for hours, and once you are there you have to deal with overly-aggressive loudmouth fans and even worry about personal safety in some instances. It's not a family friendly experience in the NFL anymore. And when your franchise is one of the leagues worst at absolutely gouging it's own fans, that doesn't help. I'll admit the stadium experience seems marginally improved since Harris took over, but it's still a big investment to go to a game. Add-in non-competitive football and you are going to be ripe for opposing fan takeovers by fans of more successful teams.

I tend to side with DieselPwr44 (don't die of shock DP). Washington is lucky to have the fans left that they do after what the experience has been over the past 30 years. I also agree with Chris that BGO is a microcosm of all the things one sees from the fanbase, especially on social media, except that maybe there is a little more intelligence in viewpoints here, folks tend to take a longer view (although still overreacting negatively to short term failures), and there is less hysteria and fan warfare because of the expectation bar here.

Good pod guys. Great to see Tony and Canadian Hog at it again.

Eventually I get through....:p
