For our new members, just an fyi... we use Xenforo forum software. One thing that can be a little confusing is the difference between 'chatting' and private messages. Our chat software, accessible from the bar at the bottom of your screen at any time, is an add-on. We primarily use it for our Game Day chats which we encourage all to participate in. It *can* be used, either in one of our chatrooms by 2 or more members - that's totally fine. If you are looking to send an 'instant message' or 'private message' to anothe rmember (or multiple members), in Xenforo that is called a 'Conversation'. If you click on the envelope icon in the top right toolbar of any page, that will allow you to read private messages from other members, or send a private message to a single or multiple members.
The bottom line is that if you want real time chat, with live posts and responses (either with another member or with a group of members) you use our chatroom software at the bottom of the screen. If you want to send a private message, use the 'Conversation' feature by clicking on that envelope icon in the top right toolbar of any page.
You'll get the hang of it, but it can be confusing, especially when you aren't used to it. Please let us know if you need any help.
In almost all areas of the site, if you want to notify another member you are referencing them, or want them to get a notification about a post or message, you simply use the '@' symbol in front of their username and they'll receive a message that you tagged them.
