A Era of Redskins Football Comes to a End

I'm fascinated to see where he ends up.

Opinions are all over the place on his future.
 
What I won't miss? The divisiveness RG3 to DC, almost from day 1, created. Best of luck Robert and thanks for an amazing and unforgettable 2012 run.
 
What I found ironic is that Griffin ended up sitting on the bench for as many games as he got into in 4 years here.

So much for the legend.

Mike and others may try and build Griffin up to be a 'Sean Taylor' type tragic figure that will be forever remembered for the talent and ability unrealized on the field.

But the situations are not at all parallel.

5 years from now nobody will be wearing #10 jerseys around for Griffin. He is yesterday's papers.

Meanwhile #21 will likely not be given out again in respect to Taylor's memory.

And I was gonna just let it slide upon his release, but tr1 had to chime in about the "unfairness of it all" and the "best season in the history of the Redskins" ***sarcasm alert***...but not one single person on this site supported my assertions from the day he was drafted. "I told you so!" Petty? I don't care. Good riddance to that drama queen and his childishness!

I want to wish him well, but won't because he won't do what it's going to take to succeed in this league. If he wants to be a quality player in this league, he'll humble himself, go to Andy Reid and beg to sit on the bench behind Alex Smith for at least 2, probably 3 years to learn how to be an NFL QB. But he won't...he'll chase the lights, thinking he can be a factor again as a starter in this league, immediately. Good luck with that, kid!

I guess I didn't read the whole thread. Who is comparing him to Sean Taylor?
 
Here's my two cents which are actually worth less than one.

Griffin re-energized a fan base and was one of the biggest NFL stories in 2012, pundits, commentators, bgo members along with those on other sites were in awe of what was emerging out of DC. Regardless he had a cinderella season in 2012, but the clock struck midnight in the playoffs and the fairy tale started to unravel.

We can have all the conjecture, "hindsight", "I told ya so" and "what if's" etc. that we'd like but what we know is he is no longer with the team, there's always going to be debate on several aspects of his tenure here in DC. Was he worth the trade? Who was more at fault, Shanny or Robert? Did he get a raw deal from Gruden? Would he have recovered from his injuries in the right scheme? Bottom line, none of us know and I don't think that any amount of discourse, discussion or argument from either camp will change anyone's mind. I think Robert is a quality young man, to me that's how I'll remember him, charitable, friendly, hard working and quite frankly ready for a change, I wish him the best.

My point if it needs clarification is simply that for a transitional figure, in other words a player that is here for a short period of time, SOME folks seem to be elevating Griffin to a level where they feel folks should revere him in some tangible way for performing well during one 10-6 season.

In my mind he is the antithesis of someone like Sean Taylor, whose demonstrable talent and potential was taken away from all of us by tragic circumstances at a very young age.

So, my post was not to denigrate Taylor but rather to point out that Griffin's tale here wasn't in fact 'tragic' or otherwise deserving of reverence.

He was a prime athlete that came into the NFL and physically couldn't hold up to the every Sunday pounding this league exacts from its players.

It's a story told over and over many times of college stars that fail to translate success to the next level.
 
Yeah, I guess it's time to move Griff to the NFL forum.
I'll check up on him once in a while to see what's up.
Hope it works out for him too.

Come on Mike. Post after post, you hang out the 'praise Griffin' flag and then call me out because I actually reference those posts? :laugh:

I read what you wrote. And I found it odd that you thought 2012 was such a seminal moment to remember going forward. Not that everyone else would find it odd, but I did. And that's why I wrote what I did.
 
C'mon guys. It's a message board. We assume, we infer and we debate. It's what we do. The kid's gone. He busted here in many ways for many reasons. None of that matters. He's history. He'll have a chance to prove his supporters or detractors right or wrong. No reason to snipe back and forth over an ex Redskin.
 
PC police? Please. I have seen no evidence that Sean Taylor has been referenced here in a way that is analogous to Griffin.

Too much unwanted drama. From the beginning, I knew we were in trouble when he came in and first thing he tried to do was "brand" himself. He didn't get the fact that brands are not anointed, they are earned first, if at all. All he seemed to care about was his so called brand. That's why Kirk is going to be here and succeed for a long time. Kirk is not a "me first" kind of guy. Robert made himself bigger than the team, or at least tried to. Only he didn't figure no one does that with a Shanahan coached team. History showed us that. Yet folks want to blame Gruden........laughable. Gruden showed us we didn't need him to win, benched him, and inactivated him. A bold and great idea that worked just fine. Now the team knows what coach is all about and will follow him.

It used to drive me crazy when people would say our O-line sucked all over social media.

Honestly, Cooley has lost a lot of cred with me after this year. We all knew he was in the tank for Kirk from the beginning and he's just become an annoying know it all now. And his whole crap about not being signed this year is so stupid. Yes, you were a fan favorite here and a pretty good TE to boot. But it's over Chris.
