RG3 fan, no one here wanted what happened. Your (and our) guy gave us one of the most special seasons we've had in a long, long time.

As you say, we don't know the complete story about the circumstances surrounding the kid and it's a shame that it's come to this.

Take care yourself, you can still be a fan of the team, Griff will always be a Redskin first in my book.

Too bad he wasn't the player we thought he was. Never did learn to play the position under center. Biggest bust in the history of the Redskins, who woulda thought? Is there anything else we can point to his legacy? He saved the season after a 3-6 start. Similar to Cousins, who started 3-5 and took us to the playoffs.

Everything happens for a reason. If RGIII hadn't failed, we would have never learned of Kirk's upside and ability to improve his game.

The telltale sign he's gone was Gruden's final words about him. Virtually said he wished him well at his next destination.

What a sad tale of what could have been. We were all captivated by the awesomeness on display in 2012. The sky was the limit for Griffin and this team. Then, it all came crashing down as quickly as it skyrocketed. I hope he finds success in this league at his next stop (as long as it's far away from the NFCE).

It's actually funny to continue to see how the two are still being treated differently by so many.

Where are the 19 threads dissecting what Kirk really meant with his statement about where he wanted to be?

And now, the tally begins. Who's career will have more successes. Kirk, or Robert.

It starts, all tied up.

1. Each helped their team win the division. Though Griffin's run was longer, and much more exciting.
2. Each lost their 1st playoff starts. But at least Kirk walked away without a limp.
3. Kirk has a huge advantage going forward. Robert isn't guaranteed to start anywhere, and he'll have to learn a new system, teammates, etc...
4. Robert has a huge advantage in handling the pressure that comes with being the highly paid savior. With Kirk, it's unknown. He did have the benefit of watching Griffin get built up, and then ultimately turned on, and cut down, by the local media. They will take the kid gloves off now.
5. But the pressure to prove the decision was the best one, lies heavily on Kirk's shoulders. In the end, his career MUST be better than Griffin's. A tie would be a loss for the organization, IMHO. It won't be judged on inconclusive stats either. Super Bowl wins will be the main measuring stick. Followed by wins and losses on their ways TOO the Super Bowl.

Good luck Robert. And please, don't go to Dallas, or Philthy.

At the end of the day, Robert will have his chance to succeed or fail on his own merits. He's, young, smart and so athletically gifted. By the end of his career, this stint might be viewed as a growth opportunity or a death spike. Frankly, however his career unfolds, I won't view it as vindication of either view point. He's a man with a chance to make the most of it and he'll get every chance to do so. We are all a sum total of our experiences, and now it's up to him to take the positives he gained and learn from the rest. If he goes on to a long successful career will it be despite the rough start, or because of if? That debate will forever continue in Redskins lore as we debate the long, painful ERA we've been living since the ownership change. My only hope is that our beloved team continues it's upward trend and when we have this debate we're having it as a winning franchise, with all of us getting a bit more perspective through time and with a bit more light hearted spirit that winning inevitably brings. I still have no idea why they kept him around this season. Surely those millions of dollars and roster spot would have been better used to shore up the defense. Surely RG3 would have been happier having a chance somewhere else.

All signs point to Snyder meddling. I'm guessing McG just kind of decided he'd let the baby have his bottle this one last time, though he and Gruden really knew it was over and were looking for any excuse to bench him - for good -and let Kirk have the season. RG3's horrific and pathetic performance in preseason, coupled with his concussion, gave them exactly what they needed.

I don't wish RG3 any ill will, but enough already. This whole thing needs to be over ASAP. Let him go to Dallas, I don't care. Pretty clear the whole 2012 season, as magical as it was, was built upon athleticism and smoke and mirrors. After watching RG3 get chased down and sacked by defensive lineman for the past 3 seasons, I'm pretty sure it's over and he ain't coming back to haunt us.

Anybody who thinks RG3 is the "biggest bust in Redskins history" has only been a Redskins fan for 4 years. Albert Hayensworth will now and forever always hold that title. RG3 won us the division in 2012, and basically did it all by himself, and that's an amazing feat on what was still a pretty poor and talent-deficient team. Nothing can take that away, ever.

He made a hair under $7m this year. I think his dead cap figure would have been pretty close to that (his signing bonus was at least half that) so it wouldn't really have saved much by cutting him. I, too, thought it would have been better just to cut him earlier on and get rid of the distraction, but fortunately it didn't really turn into one once KC1 got his game going.

Would you like to give me a good reason for them to keep him? Once they excercised his option he was useless as trade bait.

OK if there was no issue with the cap. But we still wasted a roster spot for the entire season on a guy with zero potential to ever play, and POTENTIAL distraction issues.

I really do think the FO intended to go into season giving him every opportunity to keep the starting QB gig. That was why the extension. That was why naming him the starter going into OTA's. Even if it was just for McLovin and Gruden to show Pretzel Boy that it wasn't gonna' work, they gave the opportunity. I hoped it would, but it didn't. It ultimately doesn't matter why. We as 'Skins fans try to count the reasons and assume no other team and FO has issues like this, but I can guarantee the fans of every team point to at least one or two people yearly and say to themselves "If our staff wasn't so messed up, that guy would have turned out better... "

Well... except maybe the Patriots.

Just happens to be that ours was at the QB position, had a lot of draft intrigue and goings-on and he gave the media metric shit tons of fodder the two years prior to this one.

If he was released, who would they sign? Seriously who could they have signed? Weeden, Mallett, Josh Freeman? He was still better than any other off the street QB that they would sign of Cousins or McCoy got injured. At other positions, were there better guys available? Did they release a valuable player to sign someone off the street at another position?

Also, if they had released him, Dallas would have definitely signed him since Romo's injury had them scraping the bottom of the QB barrel. Maybe he signs on with some other team before Dallas gets him, but I bet Jerruh had his eye on the wire looking for that to happen.

One of the other things I wondered is if when the FO explored trade options is if the interested teams were in the division or on the schedule. If that is the case, then they know if they release him, those teams would sign him.

Clearly, they didn't have to sign ANYBODY, since it was Kirk and McCOy all season. Keeping the extra roster spot open would have been a better idea, especially with a GM who has a talent for bringing in dudes off the street. They certainly could have brought back Grossman or any number of other scrubs to be #3, they didn't need RG3 hanging around.

The real mistake was exercising the option. If they hadn't, RG3 could have been trade bait all season long. Somebody might have forked over a 3rd or 4th round pick for him. They also would have had the option of playing him at any point in the season if they wanted to, in any capacity. Trick plays, wild cat, who the hell knows.

As it was, he became a shiny albatross. We couldn't trade him, because nobody in the league wanted to be locked into paying his ridiculous salary next season, we couldn't cut him, because doing so would make us look even stupider than usual and circumvent any chance (no matter how remote) of trading him, and we couldn't play him, because if he got injured - and history shows he is constructed mostly of balsa wood and masking tape - WE would get stuck paying his ridiculous salary next season.

It's really the only personnel blunder the new regime has made, but as I said before, I think they were just throwing Snyder one last bone.

Guys this will be my final post on this website. I will always be a fan of Robert Griffin for what he did for Baylor University. I have been deeply troubled by what has transpired during his years with the Redskins. As in most cases like this, I am sure that the blame goes both ways. I can say this, I am certain that Robert Griffin gave it his all that first year he played for the Redskins. From what I have observed this year he has tried to make the best of a bad situation. Hopefully, he will find success somewhere else. For me, it has been enjoyable interacting with you guys over the past few years. Take care.

hey..it was a pleasure. he landed up with a dysfunctional organization that didn't have the maturity and leadership on hand to take a 20 something year old and mold him. they broke him into pieces the first season and it went downhill from there. we, of course, are stuck with the man-child HC...but hopefully...and by all appearances will be granted...the time and assistance to grow into the successful mediocrity we all know is his full potential. so maybe the team really is changing!!!

You weep for Robert Griffin and you curse the Redskins, you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what Jay knows.

That Griffin's benching, while tragic, saves wins. And Jay's existence,while grotesque and incomprehensible,to you, saves wins.

You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at tailgates, you want Kirk behind that line! You need Kirk behind that line!

Jay uses words like "3 step drop", "Rhino Rhino" and "protection audible's". He uses these words as a backbone to an NFL Offense proven to work. You use them as an excuse for poor play.

Jay has neither the time nor the inclination to explain himself to a fanbase who buys merchandise and cheers under the blanket of the Division Title Banner he provides and then questions the manner in which he provides it!

He would rather you just said "Thank You" and go on your way...Otherwise I suggest you grab a "You like That?" towel and occupy a seat at Fed Ex.

Either way, he doesn't give a damn to what Robert thinks he's entitled to!
