5th Annual BGO Ballers Fantasy Football League

Sure is good to see you, CH. Watch out for me in #2. I will give a serious challenge to last place! :)

Hey guys,

Sorry about not signing up yet. It's been a whirlwind the last week and a half and being out of town didn't help. I will take care of registering this evening. I appreciate all the efforts that were made to squeeze me into league #2 and I wouldn't miss this fantasy league for anything. It's a great time, a competitive competition, and an always interesting draft night.

El - I'm cleaning my paint brushes as we speak and am preparing to unveil my latest art pieces during tomorrow night's browns game chat :). As excited as I am for the return of football, I'm just as excited for game chats.

I'll reiterate - best skins site around, best skins fans around.

CH

I definitely didn't want to leave anybody out, and it looks like we are set now, with you being the last piece. Draft order for League #2 is:

1. Last Place Finish
2. BigMikeBreakingBanks
3. a's First-Class Team
4. Yusuf's Swag Team
5. Tartan Redskins
6. john's Nice Team
7. Neo Maltsters
8. Burgundy's Burners
9. Golden Boy
10. SC_RedskinsFan
11. Cdn. Bacon Strips
12. Insubordinate Otters

It's official, this thing hates me :( Drafting 12th, are you kidding me?

I have updated the 1st post with draft orders and times. Please let me know if you have any questions or proposed changes for the league(s). Good luck!

Thanks again for all the efforts in organizing this, Shi. Much appreciated.

Settings, draft orders, and times all look good to me.

I'd like to change my name to Last Place Finish. The other person can have Burgundy's Burners.

HA! I'm drafting 9th and in my other league 8th. It looks like I don't have to develop two separate draft plans.

One week to go time League #1! Got your draft lists ready?

Thanks for the reminder - I was just about to double-check on draft date/time...

Hey Shi - we have some new folks who haven't played FF before. I've only played for 3 seasons - so I can empathize with their questions. Could we ask for some volunteers from other experienced players to 'mentor' the newer guys? There are a lot of things that become obvious once you've played for a bit, but I found there's a pretty steep learning curve early on.

Anyone willing to be a 'mentor' for new players (so those folks have someone they can go directly to for answers to questions)?

I'm happy to help teach some of the ropes. Anyone can pm me if they'd like some pointers.

BB - yes - Basically, you'll have identified positions that you have to draft into, and then you'll have some bench players that you can choose to start for specific games each week (you can't change your roster once the games have started). The positions you'll draft for in our draft are:

QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/R/T, K, DEF, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN

The W/R/T allows you to select either a WR, a RB, or a TE as an extra offensive guy. You don't draft individuals for defense, but simply pick a team defense and you'll get points (or not) depending on their performance each week.

If a player gets hurt, you can elect to hold on to him and move him to the bench (if you think he is going to be back soon and don't want to drop him) or you can drop him from your roster and find somebody else to fill that spot. You can put in for trades, accept trade offers, or drop and pick up guys from any team that aren't spoken for by someone else in your league throughout the season. You have to keep in mind though that everyone in your league is going to be looking at the list of available players, so you are not guaranteed to get a player - it depends on who submits to add him first.

Hope that helps a little.

I may be wrong but I think BB's ? refers to a max at each position, including the bench players. ie; can you draft 6 WRs. Granted that would be like half the bench guys but just an example.
Looked through the rules earlier and didn't see anything but might have missed it.

You can plug any player/position you want into bench positions. At least - I've never heard of a limitation.

Is there a limit on how many we can draft of each position?

Sorry for being slow to reply. No, there is no limit to how many you draft at any given position. You need to fill a team of: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, W/R/T, K, DEF. The W/R/T slot is filled with the WR, TE, or RB of your choice. If you want to try and draft the best WRs during the draft to get somebody to trade later, you can do that. Everybody has their own strategy, but there tends to be a premium on RBs.

There are a few things out there to help you with who you draft. A lot of it is knowing who starters are, what offense they are in, who's a TD machine. I know I scored big last year with just finding out that Julius Thomas was the starting TE for the Donkeys, and picking him up as nobody knew who the hell he was. That's why I try to draft so much later, so that teams can be mostly finalize their rosters, and injuries from pre-season are dealt with.

As far as injury swapping: if one of your players gets injured during the season, you have a choice to make: keep them on your team, or drop them and try to find a replacement from the FAs available. Everybody gets the positions listed above and 5 bench slots, so generally most people have somebody to plug in when there is a late scratch(nothing like having your starter being a late scratch in a late game...).

You can pick up any player that has not played yet for the week. If they have played, they are on Waivers until Wednesday. On Wednesday, players that are claimed are doled out according to each person's position on the waiver list. You claim a player from Waivers, and you go to the bottom of the list. It can be key sometimes to save your Waiver until that one breakout player is found.

I'm sure there's more info to be had about things, and I'll be glad to chat with anybody about the nuances of the rules. I will be in the live drafts as well, so feel free to grill me for any more info you desire at that point. I can be PM'd with any questions you may have at any time, and maybe we could setup a time to just use the chat here to answer any questions people think of? Let me know.

Also, 1 week to League #2 draft! Mark your calendars! Make sure your computer is in working order!

Tip for the draft if you haven't done one before. It sounds like you'll have a lot of time to make choices - but you don't. You need to have a pretty clear idea of exactly who you want, and 3 or 4 more options at that position because it's common for players drafting right before you to grab exactly the guys you wanted. If you aren't prepared for that, you'll end up making a poor selection with that next pick.

I tried a mock draft; we got 30 seconds a pick. It really isn't much time if you are not prepared. Try one or more.
BGO's is 1 min 30 sec's per pick but better to practice a little faster. Besides, most aren't going to take that long to make their pick anyway.

There is also a 'Can't Cut' list. If you draft a player on this list and he gets injured, you can't drop him. Maybe 25 or so on this list. I'd recommend a look at it. It is under the 'Players' tab.
