2026 Injury Updates

Have they even put anything out about the status of Amos?

I guess no news could be good news.

I haven’t even heard what it is that’s potentially wrong with him. I’m just assuming it’s not the broken leg at all, but some sort of compensation injury endured immediately while ramping back up to full practice.

That’s a brutal injury for us.

I don't see how it can be viewed any other way. Will the season go on? Of course. Do all teams have injuries? Sure. Am I going to keep asking myself questions and then answer them?

Probably.

It's a bitter pill to swallow. As my man-crush Om said today in a video to me from Germany - it fucking sucks. I don't think there's any team in the league that experiences more 'season ending' injuries than Washington does. I mean - this is a practice session and a guy tears his tricep so badly it requires season-ending surgery? Seriously?

And of course, it's ONLY our left tackle.

We just cannot have nice things. Ever.

CB is terrifying. Not having Amos makes that room both lack depth AND top end starters.
Yes he is probably our best corner. His absence is especially felt when you add in that Quan appears to be floundering and Mikey is struggling in the backfield.

I’m kind of on an island but I’m not all that worried about corner. I mean, we aren’t in great shape there at all… but Douglas and Robertson are capable. Amos being banged up kills our depth and Sainristil has been struggling, so we could use veteran depth there.

If I’m worried about corner it’s the depth piece.

I still remain most concerned about interior IOL in general and post safety.

RB I don’t think we have a single great back (though I am very intrigued by Bill’s improvement thus far), but we do have a good room.

It’s IOL, post safety, CB for me… in that order.

I am significantly concerned with the first two. And if we get another injury at the third that jumps to a top worry.

I guess I see it entirely differently.

IOL - I have big questions at center depth. The Tunsil injury probably removes the most obvious backup guard. However, I think Allegretti, if healthy, will be fine. Do I know this? No, but for whatever reason, I trust them on this. He played ok when he played center previously. Center depth is a real issue. Guard depth, eh, I'm not as concerned with. Wylie can play guard. Before they were forced to flip Coleman back to tackle, the guard depth was better. But I think there are enough guys who can play on the inside in a pinch. The question is center depth.

Safety - I have concern here also. However, safety is the second level of defense. CB is primary level of defense. So while I have questions here, it's secondary.

CB - I hear all the things about how the Flores scheme de-emphasizes the position, they will blitz and play with eyes on the QB, and jump routes, and the Vikings didn't have great CBs. I get all of that and hope it's true.
However, Douglas seems to be our best CB, and he got here 5 minutes ago. Amos is the most talented, and he hasn't practiced. Sainristil struggled last year, and is likely going to be overmatched from a size perspective every week. Robertson is tiny. Not only is there no depth, but there are serious questions about the starters at a premium position.

I've had this worry for a while. And you're right, one more injury, and we're toast. If Amos comes back and can stay on the field and practice, then my level of worry at this position decreases significantly. But the worry is heightened because our theoretical best CB is not on the field. I could live with Amos, Douglas, Sainristil and Robertson. However, we don't have that right now, and that's a concern.

I don't think it's irrational to be worried about any of these positions and in any order. I'm just more worried about CB than anything else, but it's completely reasonable to be worried about others as well.

I'm not, for whatever it's worth, at all worried about RB. I think the room as a whole is poised for a heck of a good season.

The past draft of rivera are going to catch up with us this season. This team does not have much depth or impact players and with the schudule this year looks like it could be in for a long year.

It caught up with us years ago really. He sucked hard as an evaluator/drafter.

Yes.

So did Bruce/Jay/Lord Voldemort.

The only players on the team which were drafted by Ron are Quan Martin, Percy Butler, Chris Paul and Sam Cosmi. I never know how to count Diyami Brown. He is on the team, but he was also released. So, 4 or 5, take your pick.
Ron drafted 33 players. For those playing along at home, that's 15% of Ron's draft picks which are still on the roster. Also, the 2020 draft has been completely wiped out.

2019: 1 out of 10, Terry McLaurin
2018: 1 and 1 boomerang out of 8, Daron Payne and Tim Settle
2017 and before, none.

Now, 2019 is a while ago, so a player drafted in 2018 or 2019 would now be approaching 30. Payne is 29, drafted in 2018. So having fewer of those guys around at this point makes sense.

But only 2? That's not good either. If you hit on blue chip players in the late teens, those would be the core of the team.

The reason Peters has had to sign all these one year deals is he had no young depth to rely on. So he had to get old depth.

This is a much deeper team than it's been. But they need the 2024 draft class to have a few more significant contributors for it to really be part of the turnaround. And Amos has to stay healthy.

I’d be looking for a solution to this issue as opposed to thinking we have the answer in house. We don’t.

I think Brandon Coleman has already proven he can be a serviceable fill-in in a pinch but the problem is, what if HE goes down? I think they need to sign someone who is also capable of starting at LT if that guy is still out there?

I don’t like the sound of a serviceable fill in at LT, not for an entire season anyway. I guess the ex Lion discussed in the FA thread is about as good as it gets. I suspect that is under serious consideration right now, irrespective of the line coming out of camp.

LT's are such a precious commodity. I may have missed this but why is Decker still available if he is that good?

Recent injury history coupled with a larger cap number than they wanted to pay.

Nobody walking the street is going to replace Tunsil. We had to trade for him to begin with.

There is a reason they’re walking the street. I’d argue that we do have layered depth as well as any team can hope to at OT. There simply aren’t that many premium players out there.

Coleman can play the position. Conerly played LT in college but I like keeping him at RT for now to continue that development path. Trent Scott is a vet who’s played a fair amount of games, in the NFL. Obviously getting that far in the depth chart is concerning, but it would be no matter what.

This Tunsil news just highlights how bereft of talent our roster is. To ever catch up with rosters like Philly or Seattle, we need to do something extremely drastic. Bruce, and then Rivera made it necessary.

I would be attempting to trade the QB at the most opportune time.

It's either that, or we find ourselves in the same position next year, and the year after.

We need a TE. We need this, we need that. We have far too many needs, and not enough picks to ever close the gap.

Unbelievably dumb idea, but you knew people would react that way.

Since 2024 this FO has had three 1sts, four 2nds, four 3rds, and myriad mid-late round picks and the only elite player they’ve drafted is the QB at #2 overall. I’d argue they have yet to even draft another “very good” level player. Good is also debatable. Jury is still out on the rostered drafted players, but we haven’t drafted anything better than an average player at best since Rivers was fired…with the exception of the QB. Coleman and Conley might end up good. Amos if healthy, but the jury is out. Not a sniff of another developed player yet though.

Put another way, even if your idea didn’t come from drinking too much of the silly sauce, even if I was open to it…why would I trust a FO who hasn’t proven to hit on draft picks, to shepherd in a big crop of picks gotten from a hypothetical QB trade? Then you don’t have the QB (who can win games himself as we’ve seen) or the talent elsewhere either.

What you’re actually advocating for is a new GM and staff, if you really want to dig down into it. Because this regime has had plenty of draft and cap resources over the last three offseasons to make this a competitive roster built around the QB. So if you’re in such despair about the roster that you’d try to trade the QB for a haul to restock…then you fucking hate this GM and these coaches, my man. They’re letting you and everyone else down if that’s where you’re at.

To be fair, he didn't say he wanted to trade for draft picks. He said he wanted a TE. Much more reasonable.....

I'm definitely in favor of a new HC, but we're too far behind in talent.

What exactly is the point of this season? To hope JD5 stays healthy, and continues to develop with a marginal roster around him?

So we can start next season in the exact same position, way behind the top teams in talent, and little chance to catch them? We've been doing that for over 20 years now.

I hope someone in the FO is thinking big picture.
