2026 FIFA World Cup

So for the first time ever, the top 4 FIFA ranked teams will battle for the World Cup with England trying to oust Argentina and Spain and France also trying to get to the final. I'm kind of sick of hearing about Messi and Argentina, so I hope the Brits take them out.
I don't even pay attention to this sport and I'm super-sick of Argentina. :)

Argentina's squad is so clutch. I cant decide whether i mean that as always cones through or clutch and grab machines. They dont shy away from the fouls to get in the head of opponents. That's for sure. Are they the soccer version of the bad boy Piston teams in the NBA? Maybe i am just showing my age with that comparisson.

England played a stupid strategy after their go ahead goal. Who in the world would think that turtling and letting Argentina possess and create chance after chance would be a good idea.

Marty Schottenheimer?

That was one helluva good match by Spain. Congrats to those guys for pulling it out. I definitely enjoyed watching that one.

Related note (on the halftime show): The two dudes were saying something about needing to bring out somebody with some soul, then out came Justin Bieber. Couldn't help but burst into laughter. I wasn't expecting the O'Jay's, but come on, man.

Argentina’s strategery in this game is an example of what makes the world’s most beautiful game hard for me to watch. He doesn’t shoot, he doesn’t score!!!

At one point in the first half Argentina had a throw in from halfway between midfield and the Spain goal. They quickly and deliberately worked the ball all the way back to their own keeper. Brilliant! How, oh how, could Argentina lose with 1 total shot and 0 on goal? 🤣

‘If you go 117 minutes without registering a single shot, you're either not playing a sport of any kind or you have a big problem. And that's what Argentina had Sunday afternoon. Regular time ended without a single shot -- off target or otherwise -- toward the Spain goal, something that's objectively difficult to do.’

‘It was a hard watch for much of the time, and arguably the worst World Cup final in living memory, but Spain held their nerve and beat Argentina through sheer persistence and belief that their superior quality would win in the end.’

That was Ted Lasso and Coach Beard. If you haven’t seen the show ‘Ted Lasso’ on AppleTV I highly recommend it. The fourth season starts in about two weeks.

I’m personally at a point where I am trying to figure out what the hell I am going to do the rest of the summer now that the World Cup is over. I can’t explain how much I love this sports spectacle and miss it already.

This is why we have books ;)

Welcome to the dog days of summer...thr world cup was awesome. As a former soccer player who primaily played stopper, i was in awe of Spain's ability to out constant pressure on Argentina. The best way tonplay defense is to make sure the other team doesnt have rhe ball, and when they do, dont let them have time and space. That was a masterclass in defense. Spain gave up 1 goal the entire world cup!

They talked about this on the podcast After the Whistle with Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard on Ted Lasso) and Rebecca Lowe (which I thoroughly enjoyed). They took listener suggestions on how they deal with the ennui… climb a mountain to let nature’s majesty help put things in perspective was my favorite, lol.

Same, brother. Same.

The hangover is real.
