2026 Commanders Training Camp

Plan A should have been holding on to Badass at least until free agency got started, but Peters fell through. They went into free agency with no safety net, i.e. no proven (!) center on the roster. Feels like a firing offense.
I feel like we got into kicker hell this way as well. I don’t think Slye is some lights out kicker but I think he is much better than we have had overall in these few years. Again there Peters moved quickly. Sometimes it looks like a coach may be basically saying “we can do better” and Peters pulls the trigger. Something is broken there and not getting fixed.

Our running game really is pretty pathetic. That 100% needs to be addressed in the draft of free agency next offseason. And yeah pump the brakes, Giants 😂 bunch of clowns. That offense is gonna be hit with a ton of injuries.
They're a reflection of coach Douchebaugh....

I'm listening to Dan Hellie on Sheehan's podcast talking about how adding Diggs has completely changed the complexion of this offense. Logan said essentially the same thing on his latest podcast — Diggs has changed the entire complexion of the WR room. And now you're hearing versions of that point over and over again.

As I posted the other day, I think this signing could actually be transformative beyond just this season. Maybe it finally takes Peters out of the dark ages when it comes to how he views the WR position and shows him firsthand the power of having two legitimate weapons who can threaten and stress a defense. Suddenly Terry isn't carrying the entire burden. Defenses have choices to make. Jayden has multiple guys who can win. Everything becomes harder to defend. I love it. And again, I think Peters was headed there considering his FA pursuits. But I hated all the language when that didn't work out -- how they can make due with what they got. Cringe for me and some others here.

And lol at the idea that those of us who kept pounding the table for another WR were doing it because we wanted another excuse to hammer Peters. Not at all.

It's purely about wanting this team to compete for a championship. When you've got a potentially special QB, surround him with weapons and make defenses miserable. Don't ask Jayden to overcome deficiencies you have the ability to fix. If Diggs is still Diggs, we're about to see exactly why some of us were so obsessed with adding another legitimate threat opposite Terry. Will see.

I swear I've posted this a bunch. lol

Trying to sell us on Allegretti would not have been horrible if they went out and got someone to compete with him. They did not other than a 6th rounders...that never cut the mustard
This is pretty much where I’m at. I’m not nearly as convinced as others that Allegretti is not the answer, I’m more like let’s wait and see. But going for a dumpster dive back up instead of spending a little money on someone who could possibly compete for the starting job… Not good.

I guess I'm the voice of dissent in this. I've said it before, but they wanted to move on from Biadasz. If you want to move on from a guy, you just do it. You don't keep him around as the backup plan.

Maybe they were right or wrong for wanting to move on from him. But they did. They didn't like his communication and he was often banged up. And while I will say it's bad luck he now has an ACL, they were kindof right that he kept on getting hurt.

Would he have torn his ACL here? I mean, in that alternate universe, who knows.

But I don't think you can keep your 2 year starting center and then throw big money at Lindy and then try for plan B and then come back to him and say, "well, I guess everything else failed, you'll do." Who'd want to work under those circumstances? It wouldn't have been good for anybody.

And FWIW, I really don't think they did it to do him a solid. I think they wanted him gone and I don't think they wanted to pay his salary and off-season bonuses. I think wanting to move on before chasing other players was the primary reason for the timing. I think the "do him a solid" was talked into existence by a bunch of media folks. If Quinn or anybody commented on it, I missed it.

And how far down are you going?

There is some credit to the thought that Biadascz might have struggled with line calls, blocking assignments, and the like. Dallas had no intention of re-signing him either.

It was nice to hear Bram and Keim talk about how Lane the WR has really improved.

They both again talked up Yankoff as a receiver as well. It's hard to see Chig and Yankoff on the 53 because they are both really just big receivers

Teams release capable players all the time when they are confident that the depth is ready to step up and take on the starting role. I am not saying that in this specific situation with Biadascz it was the right call but a lot of winning teams that build through the draft turnover veterans all the time in favor of the youth. Partially due to ability and probably also partially due to contracts.

For sure. The only difference is we didn't have anyone on the roster that was a recent draftee and we could not afford to draft a Center early because the roster had too many other holes. There were capable and more experienced Centers than Gubin that they could have drafted earlier and considered them a serious contender against Allegretti for the starting role but they did not.

If Gublin turns out to take the job from a healthy Allegretti and all others by the end of the year and the team considers him their probable starter in 2027 than we have done well....for 2027

Maybe, but he was physically average at the position, and there’s a decent chance we end up starting a backup who is bad at both the mental and physical parts of the job if things don’t go well

Problem is Allegretti is not some young healthy guy we developed in anticipation of this moment. He’s an average at best career backup journeyman who’s been injured a lot in his career and never shown to be a plus starter or anything. And there was no plan B until we drafted a C in the 6th round, who probably shouldn’t play anytime soon but may have to this season.

I think Yankoff is a lock assuming he plays teams. Which I’m not sure about but I think he does.

I think they carry 4 TE, Chig, Bates, Yankoff and Sinnott.

This is my worry. They pushed all their chips in on a guard who really was not good enough to start transitioning to center. I didn't mind the idea of Allegretti competing to start, but handing the job to him? Even if he didn't get hurt that felt like a bad choice.
