Right now, I'd say you and I think SIP were correct about him. I was in the overoptimistic bucket. Not giving up on him, but if he has an injury not sure if he'll have a chance to really step up.

I hoped he was a steal in that draft like everyone else, but he just always seemed behind and disappointing. Like if he had fallen to the 4th due to his injuries and size, maybe right now we’d all still be talking about his potential. But it just isn’t happening for him and he’s fallen far short of expectations. I have to assume the staff feel the same way, feeling bamboozled by his college tape. Those smaller tweener types have to have really special athleticism to survive on the inside. He’s not really a tweener but he doesn’t have the base or strength of a bigger guy, or the speed/twitch of a smaller guy. So he’s JAG at best with no ideal position

Idk, I’ve been disappointed in Newton to begin with obviously but I was even more worried about him in this scheme which seems to emphasize the DL freeing up the LB’s. I thought maybe he’d get some run at DE in certain obvious pass situation looks and be able to at least rush, but he’s a guy who has to keep moving forward and penetrate to be felt at all, if he ever is. If he tries to hold space or set the LOS it seems he gets eaten up due to small size and low power.

What a disappointment.

I know this isn't the place but...I didn't like it when I heard his name at pick 36 in 2024. I know many had him ranked higher but I didn't. Plus he was drafted with an injury. So to me, he has always been a bit of a disappointment that hoped would prove worthy and make me change my mind on him.

I rooted for him as a player because he's one of ours and because everyone was saying he was a steal, but sort of like the Conerly pick I questioned the position. I thought we were okay at DT. That said, since I do believe in BPA and everyone said he should been a mid-first rounder, I bought into the pick.

He's still ours so I root for him, the same way I'm rooting for Sinott, McCaffrey, and all our other picks that haven't worked out yet. Still, I think he was already on the outside looking in. I hoped that in a different scheme, one that emphasized pressure and confusion, his strengths (quickness) would outweigh his weaknesses (size). It still could happen but the path is getting harder to see.

It could leave Ford on the IR through the beginning of the season in case another back goes down. Ford would not be the worst insurance policy

I thought (and could be wrong) that if you put a player on IR DURING training camp you end their season.

You can put 2 players on IR during the final cutdown to 53 that you could mark as eligible to return. Hence why they haven't put Tunsil on IR yet. They will do that as part of the cutdown and designate him to return, but they have to carry him on the 90 until then.

After the season starts, you can put anybody on IR, but you can only open practice windows for 8 players. If it's one of the folks you put on during cutdown, then they must be designated ahead of time.

That's the way I read the rules when I was looking up the IR rules when Tunsil was injurred. I thought you had to carry the player on the initial 53 and then IR them to have them eligible to return, but they changed that.

However, I don't think they changed the during training camp thing. What was reported is putting Ford on IR now effectively ends his season.

Well, Biadasz carted off the field for the Chargers (which due to the butterfly effect may not have happened here, but still…) so that particular “what-if” can probably go by the wayside, after all the pixels spilled on it

Eh, I picked on Biadasz for his always being banged up, but this seems like just bad rotten luck for him.

Oof. He has no trade value and they won’t want to cut a 2nd rounder on his rookie contract, so they’d probably look for any reason to put him on IR

He could be one of the 2 return designation IR guys during final 53 cutdowns. Which I'd be fine with. If he never returns, he probably isn't here in 2027.

Last practice for Taylor, fans can't watch after yesterday, his takes and he summarize past ones too for whatever its worth.

A. Chig has come in on recent practices
B. Burks has come on too in recent practices
C. the players in his mind with meh camps: Chris Paul, Good-Jones, Johnny Newton, Sainristil, Wylie
D. thinks Joshua Jossphs is a steal has looked great
E. Gulpin has come on of late
F. When this O line is ranked nationally often as one of the worst in the league -- that makes sense to him after watching camp
G. Defense is going to shock, scheme is exotic, pressuire is constant
H. Offense also looks innovative and great and Jayden looks great

I hope they're wrong about the o line. It's possible it's the one weak link that's bringing the whole unit down. I just don't know how strong the chain becomes even with Allegretti in. We need some solid waiver wire and roster cuts. Need an old gray beard with one really good year left in the tank that some team cuts because they drafted young, talented, and cheap.

Bringing Paul back isn't looking like that great of an idea. He isn't that good without Tunsil next to him, go figure

I would put the chances of that happening at less than 10%. Unless you are going to ask someone else on the line to make OL adjustment calls, it's just too much to expect a rookie to be able to handle. It does happen - Linderbaum started his rookie year. But Gulbin was the 7th center selected in the draft, not the 1st. I'm very skeptical he is anywhere near ready. We'll see. I think it would reflect pretty poorly on AP if we have to resort to that. The release of Biadasz was a questionable call and apparently not having a great plan if Allegretti went down seems to be poor planning. I wonder if they were really counting on getting Linderbaum and got caught with their pants down when they couldn't pull that off?

Could be. Keim has hinted that they had a plan B in FA too and that fell through too but he hasn't disclosed who that center was.

Feels like what happened at WR -- went after Pierce and lost out, then Doubs and lost out. then Aiyuk had that meltdown as Plan C.. But they were lucky that Diggs was still around as Plan D.

I fully understand that but not sure of the other options. Bad-Jones should not be on the roster based on everything I've read or heard.
