2026 Commanders Training Camp

Yeah you hope for more, but shouldn't Payne get a bit more flack? Paid 50% more and he had a little more QB pressure but not anything worth his contract. Kinlaw had more solo tackles than Payne had more TFL against the run than Payne. Although again...splitting hairs a bit, both of them were similar and should have higher numbers than they did.

I'm begrudgingly willing to give them a mulligan from last year's awful defense. I do not think they'll play much better, but there's enough of a chance they do that I'm in wait and see mode for both of them.

The point I'm making, poorly I guess, is that DT is a premium position for cap.

WR1 + Edge are the premier (QB is a different animal). But DT is paid more than any other defensive position (except Edge) and paid more than any OL position.

Basically goes QB > Edge > WR1 > DT > CB > OT > WR2 > Guard > Linebacker > Safety > Center > RB > CB2 > TE > Nickel

DT's are going to get more than you think.

I keep forgetting about DA, he was a beast last year. I think he was really starting to figure it out and had a chance to be a Pro Bowl type player.

There’s a bunch of returning guys I think are gonna thrive in this aggressive, pin your ears back, attacking scheme, other than the shiny free agents we picked up.

Haven’t heard much on any of the DTs other than Omenihu who has impressed some observers when he had some snaps inside. I have seen clips of the DTs on drills and I remember being impressed with the violence that Kinlaw attacked the sleds with. I hope this new scheme and the personnel we now have will see Kinlaw get more 1 on 1s than last year. But if he continues to get doubled then it’ll mean more opportunities for others

I think this scheme is going to be a bit of the opposite by design. We’ve heard a lot about the Edge guys, little about DT and I think that’s ok. The dynamics of the pass rush are going to be from outside, while the inside creates a wall. KDawg was on our Blind Pig podcast earlier this off season with some ideas of what he thought the defense could look like, and it was not one that highlighted pressure from the interior.

From what we heard, Tunsil has really taken Conerly and Coleman under his wing. Silver lining would be that Tunsil might be a really good assistant OL coach considering what a technician he is.

Yeah I read somewhere that the way the Vikings deployed their scheme meant limited opportunities for interior guys. Maybe in Jones scheme there will be more opportunities for the big guys. We will find out soon!

Who are the ones plugging him?

Got Taylor and another fan saying he's been bad. Grant Paulsen doubled down on he's been bad on the latest Take Command podcast.
I think I heard it on Finlay, maybe Standig? Not that he was doing really well, just that he wasn't sucking.

Not much, but one thing he is not is overpaid. He got a contract that was absolutely in line with a rotational DT.

It's one of the reasons they didn't release Payne. If they released Payne, the amount of money saved could get you another Kinlaw, but could not get you a higher end player. They couldn't replace Payne for the amount of money they saved.

Because what they could get is essentially a replacement level starter. ie: Kinlaw.

Not sure where to post this, I just want to let everyone know I live in a petty alternative (but better) universe where I only see Redskins, whenever a website mentions Commanders. I used a chrome extension plugin that replaces the word "Commander" for Redskins. It does make odd reading when I come across a military article talking about actual military commanders. :)

Worrying about the oline is legit.

I have confidence in Coleman and Cosmi. For some reason, my faith in Conerly is a little lower. He's got the potential to be very good, but I want to see it on the field. I do no have confidence in Goods-Jones and not a lot in Alegretti. I think Alegretti might be a steady player, but I don't think he'll be a strength. Paul I think is fine. Probably a little underrated.

As I said before, I like our running back room. Apparently, Bill did well in pass pro today. Admittedly, it was against the Dolphins, but his was the block that gave Daniels time to make the 70 yard completion to Burks. So, he "passed" his first semi-live bullet test. As the rest of a running back committee, White, the rook, Ford, and McNichols all are solid.

I'm not sure what to feel about the secondary. I think our secondary will be as good as the pass rush allows them to be. Hopefully, Amos comes back strong and shakes the injury bug off.

Geez, Jayden and “his family” aka MOM filed a cease and desist on the 5 jersey at LSU. It’s one thing to do that, it’s a whole nother can of worms to go public with it. Such a terrible look and hope it’s not going to be too much of a distraction. He’s going to get crushed on social media. And we are going to continue to hear more and more about how much control his mom has in his life. Not a good look at all.

He doesn’t want LSU to use him “NIL” at all now. He apparently feels disrespected that they are letting another player wear #5 but they don’t let anyone wear Burrow’s number.

Last I checked, Burrow led them to a natty, a top 3 offense and a perfect season. Jayden didn’t do any of that.

While I don’t believe this means Burrow is a better pro QB (people will need to judge that on individual accomplishments, which Burrow still has the edge but Jayden can overcome) I think it’s pretty clear why they allow 5 to be used.

This doesn’t feel like a Jayden move. Jayden is generally humble, and maybe he isn’t behind closed doors but I doubt it.

This feels very “Jayden’s Mom” to me.

His contract negotiation is going to be rough.

My initial feeling on this, as well. I think we have all seen enough of Jayden to believe this is not in his character. Well, at least I have. This has his mother’s fingerprints all over if.

Opens a can of worms.

On the one hand, with NIL I can see a player thinking if the number is synonymous with them then that flash of 5, 44, or whatever number in a promo or ad could be profiting off them even if it has a different name on that back. OTTH, there are only 99 numbers so you can't retire too many on a team that carries 70 players (or whatever college football's roster limit is) each year.

In this case, I hope they don't win because as we know there is only one Number 5 worth retiring and he's still alive!

Probably correct but then again we don't know how Jayden feels about his legacy at LSU.

Sounds like a 'is the juice really worth the squeeze?' situation. I mean, LSU jersey revenue - it's literally chump change for a guy who is going to set the market for NFL QB salaries soon.

I will just point out, if THIS is the QB character controversy we are worried about, we are doing pretty well by NFL standards, lol...
