How is this not even more true about Conerly, who was a toolsy 1st round prospect with even higher pedigree and potential ceiling? No time like the present to see if he’s a future franchise LT (actually, current as well). Coleman can go RT unless he’s killing it at LG, in which case Wylie is less of a liability at RT than LT.
 
So fucking irritating. Type of injury that just saps your enthusiasm and starts the “what could have beens” earlier.

Can still be plenty competitive but every single game will be “wonder what would’ve happened with our All-Pro highest-paid-in-the-league LT”.

Just devastating.

The 2nd worst thing that could have happened to this roster, and not a real snap has been played. Never mind the massive wasted salary cap expenditure (unavoidable and good process, just devastating given how this regime pinched pennies at times. They finally commit a huge capital and cap outlay on an uber-elite premium player and he’s toast for 2026, a PIVOTAL year for this QB and staff.
 
Awful news. At least it's early enough in training camp that we have some time to react.

I do believe in Coleman at tackle. Hope he can step up. At the same time, we need Bates to make a strong comeback soon. Need that extra blocker on the line to help out.

Coleman proved to be an adequate LT in 2024, and Conerly is a first round pick who played LT in college, so I could see either of them filling in for Tunsil. Maybe we’ll even get lucky and have one of them prove to be our future starter.

What would surprise me is if they stick with Wylie at LT (though I sure am glad he’s on the roster providing veteran depth now).

I don’t have a problem with any of this - as respective 1st and 3rd rounders, both Conerly and Coleman should become serviceable starters at the NFL level if your talent evaluators and coaching staff are doing their jobs. That said, Josh and Brandon each have a season of pro experience starting a large chunk of games at RT and LT respectively. While they each can play the opposite side, is that something you want to start fiddling with at this juncture? Or is it more prudent given the proximity to the start of the season to have each of them just go with what they mostly know so far at the pro level?

Your second worst had me thinking.

Worst is clearly Daniels without any debate.

I had 4 guys I had put forward as critical guys coming into the year to stay healthy for a variety of reasons: (I don't remember where/when I posted it, but I did, because Galdi did an entire show on the topic and I found it interesting.)

- Amos: Because you need 2 starting CBs, and there were questions about the other starting CB (Sainristil) and then they had a bunch of PS players and Witherspoon. Who retired.
- Terry: Because we saw what happened last year without him.
- Allegretti: Because there was literally nothing behind him. JGG and a 6th round rookie cannot be counted on to start game.
- Tunsil: Because he might be the best player on the team. It's him or Daniels. Take your pick.

Well Shit. 2 of them are gone already.

That was the order I had them in. If I had to re-order now, I would bump Terry down one notch because Diggs is here now and he can fill in for Terry in a pinch better than anybody we had before. The reason I had Tunsil 5th on the list is just because while he is an all pro level player, there are also options. OL is one place where we do have depth. At least we have options.

- Coleman can slide back to tackle, and Paul can get the guard job. The team went to the NFC Championship game with Coleman playing LT. He has experience.
- They could do what KDawg suggested, and now I agree with, and flip Conerly to LT to see if he can hack it there, and put Coleman at RT.
- They could try Wylie at LT and keep everything else the same. Coleman/Paul compete for LG, Conerly stays at RT.

The reason I put Tunsil 5th is because none of those types of options exist for any of the other positions.

Which doesn't negate the devastating loss. And it's very possible this post is just me trying to rationalize that it's not as bad as it really is. :p

Since I've been a downer about WR until Diggs got signed, it's time for me to balance it:

If Coleman does an admirable job as an OT over the season, and Connerly holds up well, trade Coleman when it gets to the offseason. Quit trying to turn him into a guard, get draft picks or another need out of him, and stop hamstringing his value.
 
There seems to be some unspoken reservations within the organization regarding Coleman and I have a hard time believing that it is strictly his physical ability. He is not a better option than Wylie? Really? Is he a head-case of some magnitude?
 
I wouldn't move Connerly to left and Coleman to right. Coleman has been playing left tackle and left guard. Asking him to go to right is asking him to learn everything backwards. It's doable, but from what I understand it's not as easy as it sounds. This poor guy has been asked to play a different position every season. Happened in college, too. He was pretty good at left. We know he can do that. Even if it's next year, Tunsil will be reclaiming his position, so the least disruptive move and probably the best one would be to move Coleman back to left. Wylie becomes the swing tackle.
 
Feck sake. This is a blow for sure. Not sure what we do but it can’t be Wylie at LT for a whole season.. Decker should definitely be considered if he would come in on a 1 year deal. Of our internal options Coleman taking the spot would mean less disruption across the rest of the line. However if Connerly is the best tackle in the building then it should be his job.

Why do fans who complain about depth always want to trade away what little depth the team has?
