2026 Commanders Training Camp

Grant's point below as to how Diggs moves. As I mentioned earlier today, watched a video of him, wow does that dude have quick feet. I was a big Antonio Williams guy before the draft -- he doesn't move like Diggs. I am sticking with the Williams = higher end Crowder analogy I've been using.

Listening to Diggs' press conference -- funny dude, articulate, seems fired up. Grant and Danny mentioned interviewing him years back and he's one of the most charasmatic guys they've ever interviewed -- I can see that.

This team sure feels like the most talented team we have fielded in years. That is especially the case knowing a few injured players are expected back healthy shortly.

The talent level is really going to bleed through with all the competition at so many positions.

I can see other teams looking to request late August trades for some of our borderline players before cuts. We haven''t really been in that position forever.

I agree this is the strongest roster we’ve had in a long time. One of the podcasters was talking about this yesterday, maybe Grant and Danny. There is good competition/depth at most positions, and we’re going to cut or practice squad some pretty good talent.

C. The biggest thing for me was watching him train and simply seeing how he moves. I've been to plenty of training camps and watched a lot of receivers up close. I honestly can't remember seeing a guy on this roster as twitchy as Diggs.

To the point from the tweet below, Diggs is definitely the opposite. He's not a long-strider at all. His game is built on elite footwork, explosiveness, and suddenness. It'll be fun to see how his style complements Terry's.

Desean Jackson was the first guy I thought of, but his game was more raw speed. The last really twitchy jitterbug type guy we had was Santana Moss in his prime. Terry almost fits the bill because he can stop and cut on a dime, but he’s more of a long strider, as you said. So I think it’s fair to say we haven’t had a guy with Diggs “twitchy” style since Moss.

If this season goes well, I actually think it's very possible both Diggs and Terry are back in 2027. Yes, they'll both be on the older side, but this front office might be thinking differently than teams in rebuilding mode. If Washington is truly in a Super Bowl window, you maximize the window.

The question is: where are the replacements coming from? Elite or even good, young receivers almost never hit free agency. Maybe they finally spend a premium draft pick on a receiver in 2027, but even then, can you count on a rookie to walk in and immediately replace Terry as a No. 1 option? That's a huge gamble.

Hopefully their replacements are in the building already. Luke is having a good camp. Williams could be good. Dyami, Burks, and Lane have some potential. The WR room looks really good now that we added a vet at the top of the depth chart.

Of course you always want to replenish your roster through drafting good prospects, but you don’t necessarily have to use a first round pick to find talent. Terry was a 3rd round pick and Diggs was a 5th.

You’re right that it is hard to find quality free agent wide receivers, but it’s not impossible. Diggs has been available in each of the past two seasons, for example.

In general, I agree WR is a hard-to-fill position like QB and OT, and the difficulty/expense of acquiring them reflects that reality, but they can be found.

At what positions, do you think? I’m much higher on this roster than I was last year’s, but I still struggle to think of a position group that’s as deep as you’re describing. Not even one, if I’m honest

There are a few. The loser of the kicking competition will probably find another team. We have more NFL-caliber running backs and wide receivers than roster spots.

Our LB and TE rooms aren’t quite that deep but look good. I saw a thing where Ertz is looking healthy, but we really don’t have room for him, same thing goes for bringing back Bobby Wagner.

We also have a strong DL rotation, good competition/depth on the OL, and even the secondary has serviceable depth.

So maybe we won’t be cutting a lot of guys who are going to start elsewhere, but I do think it’s fair to say we have a strong roster with good depth at most positions.

I notice there's no mention of Antonio Williams in your recap of Taylor's video. Luke starting in the slot is where Antonio was speculated to be.

I noticed that too, but it could be just as much Luke looking good as Williams looking bad. Luke has been getting some praise in camp.

I can kind of understand concern with the TE group but man, I feel like we have a really strong LB group. The whole front 7 is an incredibly talented group

I was just reenterd the room with DQ's presser on TV. I thought we mentioned BA's being brought along slowly but nice now that he is in. I was like, WHAT? BA? THey signed Aiyuk?

Thankfully, it was DA and was speaking of Dorrance Armsrongs return...Phew 💦

Daniels has so far appeared to be an even better version of the player he was a couple years ago, when he helped mask some of Washington’s deficiencies to guide it to the NFC Championship Game.

But unlike 2024, Daniels may finally have a more complete roster, thanks to general manager Adam Peters’ latest move.

Here’s what else we’ve gleaned from the start of camp:

The long wide receiver nightmare is over

Washington has another veteran receiver. Finally.

The Commanders on Wednesday agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Stefon Diggs worth up to $12 million, according to a league source who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

The move gives Washington another proven wideout who can complement McLaurin in the pass game, provides Daniels another reliable target after the team moved on from Deebo Samuel and tight end Zach Ertz, and offers Diggs a chance to play at home. Win. Win. Win.

Washington has tried for years to fill that so-called “No. 2” receiving role (Quinn doesn’t care for that label but I’m struggling to come up with a better one), leaving McLaurin to carry the brunt of the workload and forcing Daniels to often play Superman, which was especially apparent last year as injuries tested the Commanders’ depth.

They entered camp this year with perhaps more depth at receiver, after re-signing Dyami Brown and Treylon Burks and adding Van Jefferson and rookie Antonio Williams. But that group had no clear leader and no one outside of McLaurin with consistent starting experience.

The team, according to league sources who were granted anonymity for their candor on the matter, once viewed Brandon Aiyuk as a potential fit if the 49ers released him, but he remains under contract and after months of criticizing his general manager, head coach, former agent and even Daniels on social media, his odds of landing in Washington diminished.

The focus then shifted to Diggs, who had been in communication with the team for a while before agreeing to terms.

Yeah that one’s etched in my mind (I told GC this was my favorite grab of his once), I don’t even need to click, but it was a desperation dive. Bro was routinely a body or basket catcher. High point plucking was just not how he played. He's also my favorite player of all time.

Link doesn’t display but it’s 15 minutes of TDs and I think he uses his fingers once lol.
