After all the talk of how good the secondary has looked, rather disappointing to hear Demario Douglas was making them look bad.

I agree (although I do own Douglas in dynasty because I see him being a stud in the slot so he’s better than people think imo)

But I imagine a lot of it is that there are no pressure packages, no stunts, no game planning or anything fancy in the secondary scheme-wise. You’d still hope our guys could cover 1v1 more competitively but vanilla man and zone coverage against a soft rush with no scheming is probably the worst a DB could ask for. Same reason CB’s usually lose the 1v1 drills against WR’s they’d lock down in a game

Douglas is the type of guy I want to see Sainristil on though so him breaking free on slants (typically a quick throw situation) isn’t great news

Yeah, it sounds rough at receiver. Mind you, it should be if your projected 1 and 3 (assuming we call Noah a 3 and not a 2) are out.

Still, it would have been fun hear that Lane and McCaffrey were lighting it up or that Osborne and Gallup were... well... commanding

Agreed, but with no one allowed to hit the QB, you do expect the QB to look great. 3/6 during seven on sevens is actually pretty damn bad from what I understand.

Noah is definitely capping out as a #3. He had inflated value last season due to how many DPI's he drew on deeper shots. He wasn't exactly competitive to catch those either, so that will come back down to earth a little.

It is disappointing that we weren't able to get anybody else going. Doesn't sound like anyone flashed either.

There’s only but so much you can gauge from one joint practice, which is very little. I can even buy the Pats want to play tough for their new coach angle. Just if there was one thing I’d prefer to hear besides everyone left healthy, it would be that our corners looked good 1v1.

Be interesting to hear Keim who is going to do be on Logan Paulsen's podcast tomorrow. Keim thought Amos looked good. Sounds like Sainstrill got smoked. Wonder who struggled among the others?

Logan Paulsen said on the last podcast he did that years back he loved how the secondary looked in camp until the joint practice with the Ravens where the secondary got smoked and he saw it as a red flag that manifested during the season.

From what i heard the reporting from our beat folks was almost non existent. The temperature of the reporting on social media was vastly by NE supporters / beat reporters and it was slanted as hell.

I also heard a lot about how the first team O-Line, specifically Tunsil looked really damn good. That Jayden looked good (heard that from a Patriots beat reporter) and that the defense looks like it’s going to be the real deal. A lot of things flashed / flickered, but it’s what you expect from a joint practice.

Heard that the Commanders defense looked a bit behind the 8 ball to start out but toward the end of the practice you saw them clamp down and play ball. Again from a Patriots beat guy.

Catching up with Keim who was on Grant-Danny.

Thought the O line was up and down but Conerly was solid but was beat some. Tunsil really good.

Outside WRs weren't hot at getting open.

The defense he more or less politely said wasn't hot.

There is a lot of reporting that we look bad at WR, but somebody also said Luke had a toe-tap TD catch, Deebo was featured and caught a TD, Gallup was involved, etc., so I don’t know what to think. Maybe it’s just a story about Terry’s absence? I was looking to see Lane’s name called but didn’t, so that’s a little disappointing, but really it’s before very early. I’m interested to see how this WR group does this preseason, especially the young guys. Time will tell.

Sounds like Ertz picked up right where he left off, he may be JD’s favorite target.

Also, you have no idea what they were trying to work on or who they were trying to get a look at.

It's possible (thought maybe not likely?) that they really didn't want to feature Lane because they know things already, so they are trying to get looks at other guys.

Or who knows.

It's just really hard to glean much of anything until about 4 weeks into the regular season, let alone a joint practice.

Lane is going to be a factor in the slot but Kingsbury is not going to preview his opening night gameplan in preseason scrimmages to assuage the fear of media and fans that without Terry Washington reverts to 4-13 😆😆😆
