2025 Roster Updates

That’s a hard one. Contract size always blows my mind and I don’t have a grasp of what constitutes small or large in the NFL because the cap is always expanding and, therefore, so are the contracts.

So I’m going to guess that they are fair contracts because I think Adam Peters knows what he’s doing. Plus, you don’t want to squeeze every penny when it comes to your leaders/high priority free agents.

Are we overpaying our own FAs Ertz and Wagner 6-9 times the vet minimum when we have a Lombardi to win and other holes to fill? Has Quinn tried to break down that 1 million a year in itself is a significant amount of money?
You don’t pay starters vet minimums, and both Ertz and Wagner are starters.

The guys who get very minimums are fringe roster guys who have a 50/50 shot of making the roster during camp.

You pay a player what their value and market is.

You also don’t want to insult the players you want back on the team.

I don’t think either of these deals is out of line with their production. Ertz signed a $6m contract last season. Warner’s 2024 deal was similar to his 2025 deal.

The question is going to be Chinn. They’re not going to get Chinn on a 1 year deal similar to last year. He’s earned more. So on that, we’ll see.

True - but are they putting short term profit on a higher pedestal than the Lombardi which is an achievement nobody can take away? Its clear Myles Garrett has.

Hopefully we still have enough to address the holes at OL, DE, and RB

In 2025, we have zero chance 'at a Lombardi' without Ertz and Wagner. The idea pro players should take 'vet minimum' because it theoretically gives the team more money to improve the team is just silly. No professional is going to take vet minimum unless that's all anyone is offering. All offering vet mininum to players of Ertz and Wagner's abilities just ensures neither guy plays for you in 2025.

Literally no player is going to take significantly less than their market value for any reason.

Teams can cut players at any point for any reason. There is no loyalty from the teams to players. So there isn’t going to be loyalty from players to teams.

This is their JOB. They earn a living playing football and the window to earn is small. They are right to ask for and expect to be paid what their value is.

I think in very rare cases you see elite players take a shave. Tom Brady famously accepted salaries that didn’t reset the market in order to keep a better team around him.

I think that can happen at the top of the salary scale. After all, taking 35M instead of 38M isn’t losing that much.

On the other end, you’ll almost never see a player turn down a 6M contract for 3M. It’s just too big a difference.

Serious question for you, since you seem so intent on every player taking vet minimum. Do you work for minimum wage at your job? If not, why not? Shouldn't you be paid minimum wage to make sure your company is successful?

The reality is that Ertz and Wagner are critical pieces of this team in 2024. I expect they will be in 2025 as well. You pay them what you have to pay them to make sure they stay. That's football and really that's true for any successful business.

Tom was also married to a woman who made more per year and was worth more than him.

Not to mention what Brady was making in endorsements.

They called Tom’s football income “petty cash” in the Bundchen household.

I don't see how you arrive at the idea that they are sacrificing their future to win now?

- Wagner was a 2nd team all pro... where else are you going to find that level of production for that contract? The only reason it isn't more is because of age... so as a cost / benefit, it's highly effective.

- Similar comments on Ertz... 11th in yards, 3rd in TDs... we are getting a bargain because of age.

I get that young studs in these positions is preferable, but Ron raided the cupboard, and we have to fill out a quality roster somehow. Given our situation, these decisions seem like our best bet with the baked in limitations. Neither is locking us into a position where we can't go younger as soon as we have a better option.

1 million a year should be enough for anyone committed to honor and sacrifice for the Lombardi coming back to Washington DC. Especially after the Eagles denying us in January.

Family culture - I'm not seeing it if we are paying vets past their prime 6-9 times over vet min. Honor, Loyalty, Sacrifice.

Minimum wage is not close to 1 Million/Year for working 9-10 months.

It's the minimum wage for that career. So you answered my question. You don't even believe the BS you are pushing. Thank you for being honest for once.

I can't tell if this is serious, or sarcastic?

Is that you Pittman4two?
Dead serious. Joe Gibbs talked about being a Core Redskin - these guys were foundational to our success last year - but every million counts and the money is needed to upgrade deficits in other positions. They should see this as team leaders.

I'm saying 6-9 TIMES the VET MINIMUM when Vet Minimum is close to 1 MILL a year is GREED if the true intention is the Lombardi.

Joe Gibbs couldn't get it done the 2nd time around. Do you know why? Because the NFL changed a lot - and it's changed even more since he hung it up the 2nd time.

The argument you are making is untenable. ALL NFL salaries are insane - all of them - in a rational world. But we don't live in a rational world, we live in a world where the market dictates profits and salaries and fame. Are the Kardashians worthy of fame and riches? Is Taylor Swift the greatest musician of all time?

We all know the answers. But it's irrelevant.

Wagner and Ertz are relative bargains at what we will be paying them. It's not 1980. It's not even 2005. You don't have to like it, it's just reality.
