The 2024 NFL Scouting Combine is here.

It is okay to reveal you got the hots for someone.

This is a safe space.

Use this thread to reveal all those draft eligible players you have a crush on and hope to see wearing Burgundy and Gold come September.

Highlight reels are welcomed and highly recommended.

Michael Penix. Draftniks are criticizing his age and injury history but are ignoring the plays he made and the NFL quality deep arm he has.

I think as a second round pick (where I have seen him slotted now more frequently as we get close to the draft) he brings great value to the position.

The fact he is 24 matters little to me when quarterbacks have the potential to return the longest careers for teams after being drafted of any position on the field. Roger Staubach didn't start in the NFL until he was 27. Steve Young was 28. Kurt Warner was 28.

In fact the greater experience and maturity a player has and the greater adversity he has faced and overcome, to me the more he will be able to come in and take the failures and bad plays and learn from them and grow, rather than go into a shell and shut down.

One thing I liked seeing in the games from last year was that Penix (as opposed to prior seasons) picked his spots to run and was careful to 'get low' when taking contact and get out of bounds.

The kind of up and down running we see from Daniels and Maye, where they challenge defenders and take big hits in the open field, is a red flag to me.

In the NFL those 220 pound linebackers become 245 guys with better speed. Likewise, we see 210-215 pound safeties that bring a wallop.

There is an available QB from Michigan that possesses every attribute that I want at the position- smart, tough, leader, competitive, gamer, winner.

He reminds me of another former Michigan QB that had a pretty good pro career.

We're not going to get him, but Marvin Harrison Jr. is about as smooth a receiver with as much ability as you can imagine.

I'm going to give you one reason why I really like Drake Maye. Watch the first play in this cutup. The rest are somewhat impressive, but the first one is the throw/play which basically convinced me Maye was the guy. In all of the McCarthy tape I've watched (which isn't all of it, but some of it now), I haven't seen one throw that approximates this throw. Nor Daniels. I don't think this throw is even available to him. (Granted, there are things available to Daniels which are not available to Maye and McCarthy.

Maye takes the snap. Immediately notices the CB allows the primary receiver in the slot to cut behind him. This immediately gives the receiver inside deep leverage. (PS, this is horrid technique by the CB.) Maye checks the closing safety. The ball is released when the receiver is at the 12 yard line and he catches it at the goal line. It splits CB who is in trail position, and the closing safety. It's a great example of touch, velocity and accuracy. This ball left a vapor trail, it was essentially thrown on a frozen rope, but with enough loft to put it absolutely on the hands of the receiver. It's also fantastic timing. Throwing with anticipation.

This is an NFL play design, an NFL read, and an NFL throw. This play isn't even available to some NFL QBs. Mahomes, Josh Allen, Herbert, a few others, they can make this throw. I don't know if McCarthy can make this throw. I haven't seen it. Based on the way Daniels' ball floats, I don't think this throw is available to him.

I get you can't judge any player on one play. That's ludicrous. But at the same time, this play shows the ceiling on Maye is as high as just about anybody in the NFL now not named Patrick Mahomes. I'd take a bet on that.

As promised :) Tip Reiman TE - Illinois

SilentThreat I would draft Tip Reiman just because his name is Tip.

The draft is a complete crap shoot. Drafting guys with the best names might be a real strategy.

Gabe Hall DT Baylor is a day 3 depth guy that I like.
If I had an extra pick in my mock I would have taken him.

S/LB James Williams (Miami).

Raved him in our LB podcast. Played safety at Miami and is converting to LB for the NFL. As a developmental guy you could deploy from just about anywhere. Watch some of his tape and I think some of you might se le what I see.
