I am shocked we didn't at least try to beat 8mil. But, VERY happy we didn't.
 
Schuster made a mistake. KC would have been the chance to set himself up not only for a Super Bowl run but a nice paycheck in 2022 playing opposite Hill.

In re Rivera, it’s not whether he signs Carolina players - it’s whether he signs the right ones!

This is nowhere clearer than QB where he passed on cam Newton last year when he would have come very cheap.
 
Anthony Harris on a 1 year deal with the Eagles... I thought they were insanely over the cap? And $5 mil? That's chump change for someone who's been considered a top FS in the NFL.




Maybe they're worried about getting more speed?
 
Yeah - it really is. I think you were correct earlier, I think most of the 1 year deals we're seeing are not because of what teams are willing to do but rather players thinking they will be able to get a lot better deal down the road vs. right now. That's crazy low for a player of his caliber.

Jackson saying that this was his number 1 spot... if you take him at his word. I'm not necessarily saying he's lying, but I also understand how signing with a team you know how to answer questions. For what it's worth he did say he wanted to be HERE.
 
Who wants to go to Philly?

That team is the dumpster fire in the division. Most of its star players are 30 or older and Jalen Hurts to me is beyond raw at quarterback.
 
The man is a pro. Watch his eyes and reactions. Not a lot of wasted motion. Reads it, sees it, hits it. I'd feel a lot better about this unit heading into the draft with that guy on board.
 
There are still a lot of dominos to fall with teams this offseason in re the cap.

Some teams are technically under the cap but only have 35 players signed for 2021.

Others like the Eagles have players that are scheduled to receive offseason bonuses coming up that will put them way over.

Around or after the draft I think you will see a raft of veterans released by teams who have found a replacement in the early rounds.

The positions that tend to produce these purges are running back, linebacker and safety.

My guess is there will be capable players at LB and S available for reasonable prices at that time.

No reason to overpay now for 30-31 year old veterans who may not be as good as the players released later on.

I like the Mayo and Larsen signings as the staff is familiar with these players and they came at bargain prices for depth but with starting NFL experience on their resumes.
 
Yep. We talked about this in our pod - cap cuts haven't even really begun in earnest yet. Almost all of Washington's moves last year happened well after week 1 of free agency.

I agree. And I also think in the secondary free agent market after the draft there are going to be a number of veterans come available who will sign one year 'make it' deals in anticipation of the rebound of the cap in 2022.

My guess is a linebacker at #19 or in Round 2, one in the middle to late rounds - #5-7, and one/two signed in free agency.

We signed David Mayo, 27, an inside linebacker who is a run stopper and that is a good first step given the problems we had with the inside run last year.

If he is a spot starter or top man off the bench as the #4 backer than I think Washington will have had a good offseason at the position.

Watching the league, unless you are talking about a top 3-5 player, you really don't want to spend too much at running back, linebacker or strong safety.

There always seems to be more supply in the end at these spots than at others such as CB, OT, QB, DE, etc.

Gettleman is continuing the tradition of overspending in FA for guys that may or may not fit what they do.

Remember Nate Solder's market setting deal at LT under the old regime? Or DRC?

Well, Gettleman's move for Golden Tate is another head scratcher last year at age 30.

Golladay is a good player but there were good receivers signed for much less with other teams the past 10 days.

Giants moves never seem to equal good value.

Their basic problem IMO though is the draft.

Taking Barkley, a running back at #2 overall, was problematic given the length of the average runner's career in the NFL. Why draft a player that high who has 6 or 7 productive years when you can take a OT, DE, CB or QB that can play 10-15 years in the league?

Then they over-drafted Daniel Jones. If he came out this year he probably would be a second round draft choice.
 
I wouldn't sleep on the Giants. Some of their moves have been interesting, but one thing they've done is give themselves a lot of chances to score on any given play. I don't have a lot of confidence in Daniel Jones, but they're putting the pieces around him to make up their mind. Barkley, Golladay, Ross, Engram, Rudolph... a lot of things to think about on defense. It's all gonna depend on their O-line. Jones may spend a lot of time on his butt, but they may have shots at some big plays.
 
Barkley is a one year wonder at this point with big legs.

Galladay is always hurt.
Kyle Rudolph was beaten out in MN which is why they were OK to let him go

I have no fear of the Gnats. We almost beat them with Haskins under center. A real QB should be smoking them.
