2016 BGO NFL Pickem Contest!

For the first time since forever, I must pass. The reasons are obvious. I'll look forward to next year.

Totally understand brother. We'll keep the bar stool warm for you.

You know what would be a cool feature, if they could add it to the software :
an automatic reminder, that sends you a message, the day before the first game (which usually happens Thursday nights, making it even harder to remember), to let you know, "Do not forget to submit your picks !"

I will pass that on to the vendor. Actually since it now requires email at registration that may be possible.

Last call for this year's BGO NFL Pickem Contest! See the first post for sign-up instructions if you want to play and still haven't registered.

If anyone else wants to play - I will simply mark the Thursday night game as a loss. Kickoff Sunday is the absolute deadline. If anyone does want to join, use the instructions in the first post in this thread. You can let me know here or via PM if you can't register for some reason.

Our NFL Pickem site is experiencing some technical difficulties. The vendor is aware and is looking at it. I expect it to be up again sometime today in time to make Thursday picks. If the issues are not fixed prior to Thursday's game start, fear not, we will give everyone credit for a win that game. I will keep you posted on progress.

If they don't get it fixed by Sunday, I might actually be competitive this week.

Yeah, there seem to be some issues, although I was able to log in and make picks as of 4:25 pm ET today.

The new site appears to be up and functional. You should be able to enter your picks now.

Thanks Boone. I can get in but I'm still getting weird screens. I can maneuver to the picks page and I can print the pick sheet but unlike the past, no favorites are given .. weird. Shoot.. didn't check my Thursday night pick to see if that took. But when I first go in I get this page (and at first it said I didn't have a pool picked but I was able to pick the BGO Pickem).

As long as my picks take that's cool. Though I do often go by the favorites when I'm not that familiar with how a team is doing. I can do my research :)

Is it just me, or is anyone else doing much worse this year ?
I don't know if the league has gone crazy, or if I've gone crazy.

Both?

Actually I don't know if I'm doing better or if everyone else is doing worse...:huh2:

Yeah, I think we all must suck. I'm in the top 10 and I have a losing record for the season: 37-40.

Can someone explain the Points to me?

I'm 33/30/-23 pts

I don't know what the points bit is? Maybe I'm just being stoopid.

China, that 2nd number is not actually losses.
It's confusing and mis-leading. But the first number (37, in your case) does represent your "wins", however 37-40 is not your overall record. This can be verified by the fact that the NFL has played 63 total games through 4 weeks. Yet, if we were to assume 37-40 was your "wins-losses", then that would only add up to 47 games, far less than the actual total.
I'm not able to tell you and Knightingale what that 2nd number means (used to know, but forgot), but I can tell you it definitely does not represent your "losses" in picks.

Guys...the numbers, whether it's China at 37-26-0 or Fear at 32-30-0, those ARE wins-losses-ties. For some folks, the 'loss' # may be very large. That is because those folks have selected all games for the season (maybe they went through and selected all of the home teams or 'favorites' proactively). Thats a glitch that the vendor is working on. Bottom line is that it is the total wins you accumulate (not accuracy percentage) that determines your ranking and who wins at the end of the contest.

One thing that is different using this web version - the rankings and numbers are not accurate until I 'lock' the week every week after the final game of that week. I didn't have to do that previously, and I could also set the week to auto-lock after the last game. I will try and get better about locking the week as soon as possible after the last game so you all see accurate standings.

As for the 'Points' #, you can ignore that until we get to the end of the season. Those are 'tie breaker' points. Every week, when you predict the total combined points for a single game, that is the 'tie breaker' should folks have the same record. It's used to figure out the finishing order for folks who have the same winning record each week, and it can also break record ties at the end of the year (the tie-breaker points add up over the course of the season).

I hope that helps clear some of this up. Thanks for everyone's patience. I'm confident the web-based version will be much better than the desktop version we've used in all previous contests, it'll just take a bit for everyone to get used to the layout. The vendor also has planned a mobile version, so we have that to look forward to.
