Default Mock Draft Munch: Bradford leads to Skins

    http://dcprosportsreport.com/2009/10...-redskins.html

The title of the post is a bit misleading. We did munch the Top 6 picks, but there is far from a consensus in any of the spots. To be declared a consensus pick by the NFL Mock Draft Database at least 60% of the mocks must project the same player. None of the Top 6 spots are even close.

The NFL Mock Draft Database is the largest and most updated Mock Database on the Web. This is our 11th year with the original Mock Draft Database.
Still not entirely certain a QB is the right choice. With Samuels possibly done and a blatant need at RT, we would be fools to not go OT.

If we go anything but line in the first 8 rounds, I'm locking and loading. Eff a QB, eff a reciever, eff anybody that doesn't roll in turf. We can pick Brunell up for cheap to serve for a year or two. Deberg is still floating around out there as well

I agree Sarge. In fact, if the opportunity presents itself to move down and pick up an additional late first rounder do it, and use both on OL. But, if Snyderrato stays as the decision making process, I fear for it. They have a very stupid aversion to drafting offensive line.

The need is great at both QB and OT (both R and L). So much so that it is likely not to be fixed by a single off season. The team will have to look at what is likely to be available at both it's first round pick and it's second round pick and see which position offers the most value at each spot.

Having said that, I doubt it will happen. Right now I am betting that the first goes for QB regardless of who else might be available.

For me the formula will be same as it has been ... FIX THE OFFENSIVE LINE ... unless they think they can use their #1 to finally land a specific Franchise QB (like the Colts, who sucked so bad and picked so high for so long they eventually hit on Peyton Manning at #1). Or maybe they can luck into one (like the Patriots did with their second 6th rounder turned out to be Tom Brady, who they then only "discovered" when Drew Bledsoe got hurt) in the later rounds.

    Otherwise ... OL. OL. OL.

I just hate the fact Vinny Cerrato's spouts a draft philosophy of take the best player available. I don't have a problem with that philosophy if your roster is already solid. But when you have positions of NEED and in particular GREAT NEED (OL), you address it via draft. Why? Because if you don't then it remains a figgin need, much like the OL has here for, what, ummmm, 7 years.

If the Redskins can trade back and pickup an additional late round first or early round second, do it. There are too many needs on the OL.

If history is any indication we will go QB (Probably trade up to get him), RB, FB, DB, LB ... then we'll be out of picks and we'll grab a few rookie FA linemen and trade away some picks in 2011 for some veteran OTs.

Of course it depends on who the coach is ... who am I kidding? No it doesn't.

Actually, there's nothing wrong with the BPA strategy. It's our execution that's flawed...now where have I heard that before?

First, if you look at our draft history, there's no way possible that DBs, receivers and LBs graded out highest at our pick for this many years. This just smacks of misplaced priorities.

Furthermore, BPA can work hand in hand with "need picks." So if you need an OL but there isn't one worth taking where you pick, you move down, get extra picks and take that player lower. Alternately, if you don't have a trade down partner or if you want both players, you can take BPA with the original pick and pay a little premium to trade up and take the "need player" a bit later. FWIW, the latter is what I was hoping we'd do to get ahold of Eben Britten in the 2nd round.

Inexplicably, we traded away our first rounder in 2008 and took three receivers in the 2nd round while the Falcons used our pick to select Sam Baker-who is of course now starting for them at LT.

That kid, Mays, at USC could be the answer we have been looking for at Safety? That would make our D the best the NFL has ever seen! (said with heavy sarcasm!)

Despite all the rumors I've read about how "endangered" Vinny's job position is, I'm frankly worried that he'll have a hand in draft selection and that, to me, means all bets are off in terms of the team drafting players it needs.

It should be noted that Baker, while certainly considered the best OT still available when the Falcons drafted him at our spot (21 I think?), was also widely considered mid 2nd round talent. Certainly not 1st round talent and I clearly remember a number of guys I respect, like Mike Mayock, thinking that the Falcons reached for him there, especially considering what they gave up to move up.

In hindsight it was a brilliant move but at the time few outside the Falcon draft room thought so. You have to wonder what Vinny thinks now, with Samuels staring at possible retirement and everyone wondering if those receivers will ever amount to much.

That's certainly true Neo. In fact, I remember commenting that we jobbed them because Baker wasn't worth what they gave up. Too bad that unlike ours, the Falcons' F.O. actually knows more than a fan.

    http://dcprosportsreport.com/2009/11...s-munched.html

Here is the update from this week. Sam Bradford still leads to the Redskins. When munching 31 mocks together, 12 project Bradford. 25 of the 31 mocks projects QB to the Redskins.

I think if Bradford ends up being the guy the Skins want, they may be able to trade back to get him. Had he played a full season this year, he would have been a Top 5 pick (and very possibly #1 overall, depending on who gets that spot). As it is, with the injury, surgery and playing less than half a season, I am guessing he will drop due to nervousness about paying that much for potentially damaged good. Especially if he is not healed enough for a serious workout prior to the draft.

Which of course means we'll give up the farm to trade up to draft him because you know we always get our guy...no matter what.

It will be interesting won't it? I guess how this plays out will give us a really good idea how wise it is to place our trust and support for the people in charge of making these decisions won't it, Mike?

I think you have to go QB if you really feel like there is a franchise guy on the board. A great QB can help make a bad o-line look good. The line definitely needs to be rebuilt, but it is easier to find good o-linemen than it is to find a franchise QB. I would rather get the potential franchise QB and get O-line in later rounds as well as the first few rounds of the next draft. Its going to take a couple of years to get the qb and the o-line together anyway.

But first we need a GM or everything else doesnt really matter. I dont really trust vinny to make a good decision.
