Last week, it was Carlos Rogers who said that he would like to play against the Redskins twice a year. Now Clinton Portis has said that wants to do the same.
The Washington Redskins’ second-leading all-time rusher appeared on Late Hits on SiriusXM radio with Brian McGovern and Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew on Tuesday. In response to a question from McGovern, Portis, who was released by the Redskins earlier this year, said that he would like to play for the New York Giants.
“To go to the Giants and get to play the Redskins twice a year after them feeling I wasn’t capable any more, I think that would be outstanding,” he said.
He mentioned the Giants’ strong offensive line, run-oriented style and the presence of an established quarterback in Eli Manning as other reasons why he would like to play.
Portis also mentioned the possibility of playing for another one of the Redskins’ division rivals. In discussing his preference to play with “a quarterback who had the opportunity to really run his system” he listed Michael Vick of the Philadelphia Eagles along with Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and others.
Portis did believe that his time in Washington was up. “I think for the situation that was going on in Washington for myself it was time to vacate,” he said. “The organization was going in a different direction, and I really think that Coach Shanahan is going to get the organization back on track and back to winning ways, which is what the people in Washington want to see.”
