REDSKINS ANNOUNCE CHANGES TO COACHING STAFF

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that Passing Game Coordinator Kevin O'Connell has been promoted to Offensive Coordinator. O'Connell has spent the past two seasons as the Quarterbacks Coach in 2017 and the Passing Game Coordinator in 2018 for the Redskins.

In a corresponding move, Matt Cavanaugh will now be the Club's Senior Offensive Assistant. Cavanaugh has spent the last four seasons with Washington and the past two seasons as the Offensive Coordinator.

The team also announced that Defensive Line Coach Jim Tomsula will be returning for his third season with the team in the same role.

The moves today along with the additions of Special Teams Coordinator Nate Kaczor, Defensive Backs Coach Ray Horton and Tight Ends Coach Brian Angelichio announced last week round out recent changes to the Redskins coaching staff.

So is he actually going to be calling the plays or is that still Norval?

Good move. Heard that he is likely to take over play calling duties and that includes in the running game. Jim Tomsula being re-signed is a very good thing.

Make no mistake - this is a demotion for Matt Cavanaugh and that is a good thing. Brian Angelichio is a better option at tight ends coach than "Grandson of Bum". Ray Horton will likely be far better than Torrian Gray. Hard to say if Nate Kaczor will be a successful special teams coach, but we'll find out soon enough.

All in all, a good off-season with the coaching staff.

If Jay wants ANYTHING even close to a competent offense he'll let KO do all the play calling.

Who needs the next McVay when you have the current Gruden...

Hmmm, we'll see if this actually amounts to anything. Will Oconnell get to call plays like McVay, or is it just the title in name only, like Cavanaugh was?

Can we just promote him ala zorn all the way?
