REDSKINS SIGN S DAVID BRUTON, JR.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent safety David Bruton, Jr. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bruton (6-2, 217) entered the league as a fourth-round pick (114th overall) of the Denver Broncos in the 2009 NFL Draft. In seven NFL seasons with Denver, he played in 104 career regular season games with eight starts, compiling 114 tackles (92 solo), 16 passes defensed, five forced fumbles, three interceptions, three fumbles recovered and one sack. He has also played in seven career postseason contests, including Super Bowl XLVIII.

Last season, Bruton played in 13 games and posted career highs in tackles (43), passes defensed (seven), interceptions (two) and sacks (1.0). He contributed to the Broncos’ championship season before suffering a season-ending injury in Week 15.

Bruton played collegiately at Notre Dame from 2005-08. He totaled 214 career tackles (138 solo), one sack, seven interceptions, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 48 games with 24 starts for the Irish.

Bruton, 28, attended Miamisburg (Ohio) H.S., where he earned All-Division I-II all-area honors from the Dayton Daily News. He was born July 23, 1987.

He's a SS right? Seems like a solid signing to me, nothin flashy but brings leadership & playoff experience with him.

Really good player, love competing against him, 1 of the best in the NFL. Denver ST coach, Joe D is sick right now.

--Lorenzo Alexander on Bruton.

I mentioned it in regards to the Reyes signing and it seems like much of the same with the acquisition of Bruton...

McCloughan is putting value on character and professionalism.

I love that we are trying to infuse the locker room with good people.

At 6'2 and 217 he's also a big safety who can bring a punch.

I am not surprised they signed a veteran safety who could play special teams given that Keyshoen Jarrett may miss the season due to the nerve problems he has in his arm/shoulder.

The similarities between Bruton an Jerson Johnson are scary.
Both of them were backup safeties, coming from a Super Bowl team the previous year.
They're both being hyped as being potential starters who were supposedly caught behind major talent on their previous team.
They both started between 1-3 games in their previous year, while both playing in 13-15 games.
They're both being hyped as great Special Teams players, and supposedly "team-oriented" guys.
Let's hope that's where the similarities end.

The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.

Or Vinny coming back.
