    I believe it was also stated that it was his only experience a tackle at any level. He was just the last man available. Pretty sure they also used Paulsen there during that game.

    Sad that my memory isn't good enough to confidently respond with the details, but I'll do my best. The gist of it is that it is a similar rule, not the same. He wasn't considered a receiver, he was attempting to regain possession. Griffin lost possession of the ball before crossing the goal...

    The absolute best angle was looking right over the shoulder of the ref. And yes, the ball came completely out of his hands right in front of the ref. Really shouldn't have been tough in my opinion. At that point that's what he should have been focused on.

    Not to mention that the reversal should never have even been necessary. The rule's been enforced for a long time now and the ref was right there when the ball came loose. At best you could say they were there if he'd held on to the ball.
