    I think that no team signs a QB to the tag 2 years running if they don't view the guy as a franchise QB who they have every intent of signing. This is all about leverage and posturing for the best deal from both sides and nothing more.

    This whole situation is a fail on McL if we don't sign him to a reasonably decent deal. GM's are supposed to identify and sign talent when it's in the best interest of the team. They could have locked Kirk up to a below market deal that would have been easy to shed if he didn't pan out.

    I'd suggest that in two years time there haven't been "too many opportunities". Will he overcome that hump and become clutch in the "big one's", we don't know. But his improvement and development to date, suggests he can. It's a risk any team in the league would take.
