Is this a serious post? Diggs showed last year that he is far from washed. He matched Terry McLaurin’s 2024 season production and he did it coming off of an ACL.

He has far surpassed anything a Washington WR (including Terry McLaurin) has ever done, He has had 5 seasons of more than a 100 catches over an 8 season stretch. There is no one on the Washington roster who has done it even once in their career. He is an aging vet. But he is also a hell if a WR.

It is not serious. I've been whining for us to sign Diggs since the day his first round of legal problems cleared. I went to part time whining after a few weeks when I began losing hope.

But this for sure hurts Chig's development into a #2 WR. Not that I would have wanted to pin my hopes on that, but some had those hopes.

Why would signing a declining 33-year old player with off-the-field issues result in trading one of our best young prospects who is having a great camp?

Sure, one or two of our WRs is likely to be cut or traded, but I’m pretty confident Luke is not a candidate unless it’s a ridiculously good offer.

Interesting to listen to Logan on this who of course has been watching camp. He seems to think based on the style of offense Blough is running Diggs might get the most targets-catches as the possession guy which opens things up for Terry as more of the big play guy.

The question is, can you have 6 WRs active on gameday? I don't actually know if DBrown plays special teams. Terry, Diggs and Williams are your top 3 WRs. Lane is the primary punt returner - Active. Luke is the primary kick returner - Active. That's 5. Can you squeak a 6th? Maybe. Depends on a variety of other positions and who can play teams.

I do wonder if a small market develops for either Van Jefferson or Burks if either one of them have a good preseason game or two. There will be teams who need depth guys. We're not keeping all of them. I think if we release them, they will get picked up somewhere at some point this year. Maybe we could trade one of them for a pick swap or something instead of releasing them outright. I don't think both would be PS candidates. But maybe I'm wrong...

Love Terry, but they play different games. Diggs has SEVEN seasons that match or exceed (some far exceed) McLaurin’s top reception years, including last season on 50% of snaps returning from a torn ACL. He’s a target magnet who gets open effortlessly, and he’s about to play with a QB who excels throwing with anticipation, once they develop chemistry it’s going to be dangerous.

Terry is going to feast in his own way.

Daniels is the real winner here. I really hope both Terry and Diggs stay healthy
 
The only thing bad about the signing is that it doesn't solve next year's problem. However, that's tomorrow's problem. It's a great signing for this year.

Not to derail, but this one is a specialty of mine.

Socrates went to his death willingly. He had at least three opportunities to save himself (fleeing Athens before his trial, choosing exile as an alternative sentence to death during his trial, accepting Crito’s offer to escape prison after his trial). So he chose his martyrdom, which worked out well enough for his purposes, he lived a long life and lives forever in memory.

While that’s true, a signing like this also has the potential to solve lots of problems heading into next year that may have been a plague. There’s a non-zero chance a signing like this can keep people from getting fired, help a franchise QB bounce back, etc. I don’t want to oversell it and you never know what will happen. But this imo is a big pivot point for this regime. A real convergence of potential futures.

Yes, I’m aware I’m saying this about a 33-year old veteran. That’s how big of a ripple effect I can see this signing having, even just for one season.
 
Awesome news!! Took a lot longer than we all expected, but AP got the job done. Catching up on the last several pages, it’s great seeing this thread completely flip to nothing but humor and good vibes.

Yeah I definitely can see Diggs getting the most targets.

Hyperbole from Lynell but i like the enthusiasm because he’s been somewhat negative. But he likes what hes seen in camp and digs the Diggs sigining.

Nice synopsis! My remark was tongue-in-cheek. I would go even farther and say that Socrates was ecstatic to drink the hemlock. He knew that it would fulfill his goals/further his ideas much better than a pardon or escape, both of which would have been counterproductive. The ancient primary sources are nice for context but of course lack perspective. I am sure you have read Stone's "The Trial of Socrates" given your stated interest in the field. If not, I highly recommend picking up a copy. It is a thought-provoking and memorable read.
Wonder if Diggs is a philosophy geek in private?

Socrates never caught a pass in his life nor did he ever block anybody or tackle anyone. I completely disassociate Socrates with American football 🦍🦍🦍
